Collective Creativity part 4 of 5: An artist's story centered in nature and sustainability

Collective Creativity part 4 of 5: An artist's story centered in nature and sustainability

In this episode, I’m continuing my artist discussions with the 4th of five fellow artists, who are founders of the Chroma Collective. I finally get to talk to the member who reached out to me to join the collective – little did I know I’d be part of jointly curating 7 exhibitions with 42 guests last year with the Collective. And that guest is Lydia Johnston, an artist and friend based in Taos NM. Lydia is greatly influenced by nature and is drawn to what she refers to as the magical light in Taos, NM where she resides and has a fully sustainable studio. She’s worked with color and design for nearly twenty years, starting with fabric then moving to oils where she’s found more control of color with the medium. In 2015 she moved from Vermont to Taos. Her work is represented by Magpie Gallery in Taos where she is currently showing "On the Outskirts," a collection of twenty one pieces revealing her connection with nature, light, and her special ingredient she calls "grace." Lydia is also represented by AZ Fine Art Gallery in Boston. Join me in this wonderful conversation between two artists and friends. You can find Lydia Johnston's art at https://www.lydiajohnston.com/ and on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/lydiajohnstonartwork/

Collective Creativity Part 3 of 5: The path to abstraction

Collective Creativity Part 3 of 5: The path to abstraction

In this episode, I’m continuing my artist discussions with the 3rd of five fellow artists, who are founders of the Chroma Collective. I get to talk to Jeannie Paty, who’s gentle and compassionate spirt is mixed with her black belt strength and focus which brings to life her colorful and expressive paintings. Jeannie is based in Denver, CO but she grew up in D.C. near the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian and the Philips Collection greatly influencing her being an artist. She has a bachelor’s in industrial design from the College of Architecture at Arizona State University. She’s designed high-end custom rugs, worked as a marketing and graphic designer, assisted in a fine art gallery, served as lead graphic designer in a small marketing firm, and has taught oil painting classes and workshops. Hear her talk about her path to abstraction, finding poetry in art, and her upcoming shows Spring Awakening at the Bit Factory, and Wanderlust at the Cherry Creek Gallery. You can find Jeannie Paty at https://www.jeanniepaty.com/ and on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/jeanniepatyfineart/.

Collective Creativity: Broadening Art Circles Part 2 of 5

Collective Creativity: Broadening Art Circles Part 2 of 5

In this episode, I'm continuing my discussions with five fellow artists who, plus me, make up the Chroma Collective Gallery - an online collective born out of the idea to broaden creative circles and enhance visibility to artists. The Gallery launched at the beginning of 2022 and so far we've curated 7 exhibitions with not only our art but the art of 42 guests. You can see what's on view now at https://www.chromacollectivegallery.com/ and follow on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/chromacollectivegallery/. My second talk in the series is with Liz Dexter. who is enchanting the Portland art scene and beyond with her incredibly unique art, that brings in elements of her 30+ years of being an architect.  Liz is just off of the Portland Open Studios in her studio at the Ford Building and we talk all about the tour, what she’s working on, what’s ahead, and other insights. You can check out her art, at https://www.lizdexter.com/ or on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/liz.dexter/. Liz describes her artwork as authentic and intuitive – I would say that this also beautifully describes her which you’ll come to learn as we talk.
