Student Art: Identity and Purpose
This week's episode introduces listeners to Jayln Giles-Ewell '21, a visual arts major with a specialization in fine arts at TCNJ. Hosts Lucia and Luke ask them about their practice as an artist and student, while touching on subjects relating to the Black Lives Matter movement, pandemic "studio" spaces, and inherited trauma. Ren Maclean '22, a visual arts major with a focus in Fine Arts and Art History at TCNJ, joins hosts Lucia and Luke to talk about textile work in relation to women's "craft", the art market, and modernism. Taking a look at works and practices of textile artists Mieke Werners and Diedrick Brackens allow for interesting questions and conversations to arise about accessibility, ingrained material hierarchies, and technology.
