Do you believe in Magick?! W.B Yeats did but do Bob & Gio??!!

Bob takes us back in time with a quotation from an early favourite poem of his, and gives us a taste of his own early poetic musings. Is it gibberish or the early signs of a gifted individual?

Bob talks about what going to school during the Troubles in Northern Ireland was like. How can poetry help us understand people being attracted to extreme ideas and ideologies? Are people stealing lolly pops actual football hooligans?

Does Gio make a coherent argument for actually believing in God?? He definitely makes a coherent argument for Twitter being a nightmare of reactionary nonsense, lacking all nuance.

Are we finally living in Yeats’ predicted age of ‘Beastliness’? Are Irish people uniquely spiritual and cynical at the same time?

How preposterous are adults who believe they can actually perform magick which influences events around them?

Is Stephen King a gateway to the poetry of Yeats? Are Yeats and Jung both as mad as each other??

More information on Yeats is here - https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/william-butler-yeats

Giovanni brings in some thoughtful words to discuss this week, regarding Nature and the… nature of it.

In the wake of the COP 26 forum, we delve into the question of just how destroyed the planet is and what (literally) on Earth the new solutions will be?

Can Jeff Goldblum help us come to terms with Chaos Theory?

What do Chladni plates show us about order and chaos?

    https://www.whipplemuseum.cam.ac.uk/explore-whipple-collections/acoustics/ernst-chladni-physicist-musician-and-musical-instrument-maker

You can see them in action here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvJAgrUBF4w

Can we ever enact the fractal nodes of the Ecopolis thoroughly to create a truly green space?

    https://www.thezebra.com/resources/home/what-is-a-sustainable-city/

Of course, Jung makes an appearance but in connection with Richard Dawkins this time. We then have to ask if Jordan Peterson is right to say that ‘Dangerous people are the best people’?

Is a fireworks display anything like Bobby Lee, Punk Rock, a conversation or The Joker?

We again try to get to the bottom of the phenomenon of why music is so good – is it the greatest portable Art form which can be enjoyed passively?

And do you know where EXACTLY the quote comes from?? Drop us a line at the bowling alley….

The comedian whose full name Bob couldn’t remember is Jade Catta-Preta who can be seen with Bobby Lee on his podcast Tiger Belly, here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_dtcyDGltI

Giovanni's book 'Psychology as Ethics - Reading Jung with Kant, Nietzsche and Aristotle' is published by Routledge.

Season 2, or the 2nd Series or the New Batch is on its way but things are different!

Gio is in Italy and Bob is back in the bosom of home before moving to England, so technology is key this time.

We feel like we have developed the idea we started the first season with - Where we used to talk about the rules used in Bob's classroom and how important the wording of them was, we are now going to talk about words that we find powerful in relation to our lives.

Each week we plan to bring a sentence (an important phrase or words of wisdom), which we will then interrogate with the same 5 questions

    1) when we heard it

    2) who said it to us or where we came across it

    3) why they had an impact on us

    4) why it still does

    5) other interpretations and musings on this sentence

Please feel free to send us your own 'words of wisdom' and tell us why they mean something to you and we may shout you out on a future episode!

Spritz Personality Ep 06 - Who does what for the environment?!?

Spritz Personality Ep 06 - Who does what for the environment?!?

Continued wishes for a Happy Pride month!!!

On the idea-plates for consumption this week - ‘We look after our school environment and materials’

This is, perhaps, the most complicated rule or aspiration we have talked about so far and we are therefore providing you our longest episode yet!

How important is it that the children learn to respect the environment? How far should we be held accountable for damage done, vs how responsible are Global corporations?

How important is it to make your bed? Who said it first – Jocko Willink or Jordan Peterson? Does Žižek’s assessment of Greta mean she is actually the ideal person to champion climate reform? How can we help?

How important is university architecture and public art, in terms of Nobel prizes?

Who is responsible for the ‘disposable’ cultural mess in which we find ourselves?

And how on earth does Bill Burr taking a bath relate to the end of the world?

This week’s competition involves the wisdom of Giovanni. Write in and tell us how far into the podcast it is when Giovanni drops this beautiful pearl of wisdom - ‘The ugliness you see is the pain you feel’

NASA provides lots of information on climate change here - https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/arctic-sea-ice/

Joe Rogan has a podcast on Youtube and Spotify. He is rumoured to be 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Marc Maron’s specials are on Netflix and are very funny. The bit referenced in our session comes from End Times Fun - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdgrEGFu44E

If you don’t know who Bill Burr is by now, I don’t know how to help you any further.

Sarah Silverman is an award-winning comedian, actress, singer and writer. Find her stuff and it will make you feel better.

The song which Bob referred to is here, and is indeed  by Buck 65 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TlzG4RmaGQ

Spritz Personality Ep 05 - What does kindness even mean?!?

Spritz Personality Ep 05 - What does kindness even mean?!?

    Happy Pride month!!!

In this week’s session we talk about the rule ‘We encourage each other with kind words’

Through attempting to grow the impulse to be constructive in criticism and to be their own cheerleaders, Bob invokes the mantra of Mama Ru: “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?!” Does that seem wise?

How can we show children what we mean by encouragement and kindness? Does Selena Gomez hold the answers?

Is honesty a valuable form of kindness, and how close to someone should we feel before we can be ‘honest’ rather than ‘sugar-coat’ things?

There are good examples to attempt to answer this, from Zizek, Jeff Ross and Robin Tran

When we think about encouraging others – what do we think we should encourage them to move towards?  Doug Stanhope may hold the key…

You can feel the love with Ru Paul on Twitter @RuPaul

Michael Morpurgo wrote Kensuke’s Kingdom. His website is https://www.michaelmorpurgo.com/

Bill Burr is an hilarious comedian with multiple specials on Netflix.

The values survey we discussed is available here - https://www.viacharacter.org/

Ironically for this episode, Bob’s result showed kindness was ranked 14thmost important in his personality. YIKES!

To enter this week’s competition, get in touch with us with the word YIKES!

The Selena Gomez song we talked about is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHP5MKgK0o8

The Shia LeBeouf video is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXsQAXx_ao0           It is easy to see why he was ridiculed, but it is unclear why Bob remembered him as topless.

Doug Stanhope is inspirationally degenerate, and the clip discussed is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J0BGwt6zGw                                                                       He has written two books and his website is here https://www.dougstanhope.com/

Spritz Personality Ep 04 - Why should we give our best effort?

Spritz Personality Ep 04 - Why should we give our best effort?

In this week’s session we talk about the rule ‘We always give our best effort’

How did Nine Inch Nails convince Bob to be a teacher? How does Giovanni feel about the philosophy of Ron Swanson?

What does your best effort look like? What is the best version of yourself and how does social media influence it and you?

The article Gio refers to is here - https://www.doppiozero.com/materiali/come-stanno-gli-adolescenti

Oliver Burkeman is a journalist and author. His website is here - https://www.oliverburkeman.com/

Parks & Rec is on Netflix and is hilarious.

Nine Inch Nails are a phenomenal band - https://www.nin.com/

Giovanni's book 'Psychology as Ethics - Reading Jung with Kant, Nietzsche and Aristotle' is published by Routledge.

To be in with a chance to win this week, just let us know you have read the show notes by sending us a DM or Email with the phrase ‘Back in the classroom!’ to celebrate Gio’s return to in-person teaching.
