    People Pleasing part I

    People Pleasing part I

    Yay, I'm back!

In this part one about people pleasing I dive into what people pleasing is all about and why we do it. We'll look at where the tendency of people pleasing comes from, and how it connects to our self esteem. We'll also look at how it affects our relationships with others. We'll talk about boundary setting and voicing needs, and why that's so difficult for people pleasers.

In part II we'll talk about strategies to work on this and change this in detail, and I'll offer you specific exercises!

    Attachment, family dynamics and relationships

    Attachment, family dynamics and relationships

This episode of Freeze or Fawn is especially for you who struggle with holiday season, feel stressed and triggered at family gatherings, and want to understand why family time can be so exhausting!
In this third episode I give you an introduction to Attachment Science - the science of relationships! We look at attachment styles, how these develop in childhood and how they affect our adult relationships. We look at emotions and the 4 Fs (Fight, Flight, Freeze and Fawn) and how and why these are related to attachment. In this episode I use lots of examples of family dynamics to explain attachment, and also offer you advice on how to deal with difficult family dynamics, where you might be triggered in your attachment fears and relying on your attachment behaviors to cope.

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you know that I talk a lot about PEOPLE PLEASING! This is a dear topic to me, because I myself have been such a people pleaser, adapting and managing painful situations, out of fear of abandonment. These patterns played a great role in the abusive relationship I was in, and I'm still healing and learning. If you're a bit of a people pleaser, this episode is definitely for you 3

    Sexual Violence

    Sexual Violence

In this second episode of Freeze or Fawn I look at sexual violence. I try to clarify the more hidden experiences of sexual abuse as well as what happens to us psychologically when it exists in the romantic relationship. To explain the complex psychology of sexual abuse, I focus on the 4 F's (fight, flight, freeze, fawn), psychological violence, narratives, and cognitive dissonance. I also touch on societal and political factors, as rape myths, victim blaming, and societal gaslighting also plays a role. The session ends with a written scene, which shows how the 4 F's, psychological violence, narratives and cognitive dissonance all plays together in a romantic relationship filled with sexual violence.

    Abuse 101

    Abuse 101

In this episode I give a quick overview of the different types of abuse and violence in a romantic relationship context. I talk about physical, material, and economical violence, and dive into the blurry world of psychological violence which is ALWAYS present, when other types of violence are there. In this episode you'll learn a bit about some forms of psychological violence (such as gaslighting, emotional manipulation, stonewalling), and I'll give you a bunch of examples. I also look at the typical cycle of the violent relationship as well as the narratives that are often so strong in the psychologically violent relationship.
Consider this your 101 on abuse in romantic relationships!
