474: Wake Up and Read the Labels with Jen Smiley
One of my pet peeves is when brands market themselves as “100% healthy”, but they’re really not. When you look at the list of ingredients, it’s a mile long and filled with tongue twisters you can’t even pronounce.
It’s no wonder many people feel exhausted trying to decipher whether their food choices are healthy.
My guest today is Jen Smiley, and she’s here to help you cut through that noise and give you the cold, hard FACTS on what companies put in their food and how that wreaks havoc on your body and mind.
You’ll learn how to decode those sneaky ingredients that are zapping your energy and vitality and, instead, choose foods that leave you feeling amazing every day.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Why you don’t need a medical degree to discern which foods are good for you. Finding alternatives to the foods you love without all the harmful ingredients. Why inflammation is the greatest nemesis to your health. Why you’ll actually spend and eat less if you make the right food choices. The sneaky "healthy" foods you're likely having that cause inflammation. The common foods people eat daily that zap their energy levels. Why you should avoid omega-6, and what to use for cooking instead of oil. The deceptive marketing tactics companies use to get you to buy their products. Get The Full Show Notes

You Only Need to Change ONE Habit
In the pursuit of becoming the best versions of ourselves, we often fall into the trap of trying to change several habits at once, hoping that’ll get us faster to the finish line. But let’s be real here, it rarely works out that way.
The truth is, when we try to change too much at once, we end up feeling overwhelmed and discouraged. It’s like we’re trying to juggle many balls, and eventually, they all come crashing down. And then what? We revert back to our old ways, defeated and frustrated.
But there’s a better way, and that’s what this episode is all about. You’ll learn why it’s better when you tackle only ONE habit at a time.
You’ll also learn how to gain clarity on which habit you should take a swing at first, the one that will make the biggest impact on your life, and my top strategy for making it easy to follow through on your habits each day.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Why the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your habits. How to break down grandiose goals into daily manageable actions. If you feel overwhelmed, try eliminating just ONE bad habit. What to do when you hit a plateau. Tiny changes = remarkable long-term results. Why stacking your habits makes it easier to follow through on them. The blueprint for making sustainable changes to your daily routines. Get The Full Show Notes

Becoming a Potent Leader with Ruby Fremon
Today, I'm inviting you to eavesdrop on an extraordinary conversation that I just had with Ruby Fremon, my friend and author of the new book, Potent Leadership: Drop the Mast, Ignite the Real You, and Reclaim the Leader Within.
While there are many online "influencers" who claim to be leaders and show off their fancy lifestyles on social media, Ruby has made a name for herself by embodying a rare level of authenticity and courage (what she calls "potency") in how she leads. In fact, as you'll hear today, it was one of her bold social media posts that inspired me to reach out and invite her to be a guest on the podcast!
It takes tremendous courage to rise above that noise and own your voice, but it's crucial if you want to unleash your unique leadership abilities and make a significant impact on the world.
In our conversation, Ruby shares her powerful concept of Potent Leadership. She shows us how we can apply it in our own lives, starting from how we talk to ourselves, when interacting with others, or running our businesses. You'll discover why traditional notions of leadership are often flawed and learn what it takes to be a potent leader in today's world.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How to foster unity in a culture that promotes division. Maintaining composure when facing online attacks. Authentic leadership starts from the heart, not from the ego. Avoiding falling into the trap of leading for popularity and likes. The differences between leading with intention vs. leading for attention. Get The Full Show Notes

The Consequence of Our Beliefs with Jay Scherr
Why are your beliefs so important? Because they determine your actions and ultimately your results.
I would argue that one of the simplest yet most profound statements ever made was by Henry Ford when he said, “Whether you think (believe) you can or you think (believe) you can’t, you’re right either way.”
When life is tough, staying positive and optimistic can seem impossible. But here's the thing - what we choose to believe has a massive impact on our outcomes in life.
In today’s episode, I had the honor to be interviewed by the talented Jay Scherr. Jay has a knack for bringing out the best in his guests, and this conversation was no different.
We discussed how beliefs shape our realities and how to cultivate an unstoppable mindset even in the harshest circumstances. You’ll also learn how to challenge negative beliefs and replace them with empowering ones.
You’ll also hear me talk about my mom, how much of a rockstar she really is and the documentary that is in the works to show some love to the woman who means so much to me. Enjoy!
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The ONE belief that made me one of the top salespeople in Cutco Cutlery’s history. We will find evidence to support whatever beliefs we have. Being aware of the dark side of extreme positivity. How pain and trauma can be our greatest teachers if we allow them. Progress is rarely a sudden leap but often the result of small steps taken daily. Recognizing that only you are responsible and have the power to create your reality. Get The Full Show Notes

How to Achieve Inner Peace
Have you ever wondered how some people are able to remain relaxed, calm, and seem to be genuinely happy no matter what life throws at them, while others seem to live in a constant state of stress? What’s the first (albeit smaller) group’s secret?
If you’re someone who allows external circumstances to dictate your mood, this episode is for you. Today, I’ll show you how to remain calm and centered, no matter how difficult life gets. You’ll learn the exact tools I use to deal with stressful situations and how I see these moments from a fresh perspective instead of letting them ruin my day.
You’ll also learn how finding inner peace helps you make better decisions and bring out the best in you and your loved ones in each moment.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Why inner peace is the doorway to productivity and happiness. Every waking moment is an opportunity for choosing gratitude. How pursuing happiness makes you unhappy. The power of taking full responsibility for how you react to life’s challenges. How suffering and past traumas make us grow. Why you don’t need to feel happy to find inner peace. Sincere Soul
Hal is a sincere and genuine person who really wants to make a difference. I am grateful for the wisdom and positivity he shares. His teachings have really inspired me!
Great value, such an important message
Hal, I love most everything you do. Read the Miracle Morning many years ago and been a fan since. This episode completely spoke to my soul. I have recently retired and am in the process of deciding who I choose to be in the time and place. It helped me confirm my purpose of kindness. I am working on my affirmations for the year and not sure where this all will lead me and I am excited to see. I have been lucky to work for an employer who put service first and very successful in their field and a delight to work for. I believe this is key, as you stated, in bringing this country back to its values. I do still have hope that we can be better than ever. Thank you so much,
