How to Have More Energy - Part 2

This is part two of an episode on how to have more energy. We'd encourage you to check out the first episode for some setup and the first three energy activities. Here’s the main idea: A good life means having the energy to do the things you want to do. There are ways to maximize your limited energy.  Three energy generators:1. Diet - Your body needs fuel. What types of fuel are you giving your body?2. Take Action - To generate energy sometimes you just need to get moving. 3. Eliminate & Optimize Energy Drainers - We all have things in our lives that take more from us. How do you eliminate or improve them?  Question to consider - What practice above do you need to work on? Mailbag - Want Derek & Gage to read a note from you on the podcast during the mailbag? Are You Overcommitted?

    Are You Overcommitted?

Hi friends! We are sorry for our delay in posting. That delay helped prompt today's topic. We are making a couple of changes to All Good Years. The main change is that we will be posting twice a month instead of every week. This will allow us to be more consistent & to share better content. We are excited to be back.
Mailbag - Want Derek & Gage to read a note from you on the podcast during the mailbag? Message us on Instagram @AllGoodYears_ or email Hello@allgoodyears.com. Share what's working, stories, and anything else on your mind.
    Episode Notes:
Here’s the main idea: Overcommitting drains us from the moment and leaves us feeling exhausted. By doing less, we live better lives.
    Three reasons we overcommit:
    1. Obligation - I should.
    2. Opportunity - I must.
    3. Unaware - I didn't know

Two questions to ask if you are overcommitted:
    1. What does a consistent life of commitment look like for you?
    2. What do you need to stop doing?

    Episode Notes:
Here’s the main idea: Being part of meetings does not need to be miserable, but leading a meeting is a skill.

The flow covered in today’s show:

Prepare before the meetings. This includes an agenda, start times, and goal of the meeting.

Facilitate the meeting. This includes setting clear ground rules, keeping the meeting on track, and ensuring healthy conversation.

Ensure the meeting ends well. This includes checking in on todos, recapping the meeting, and scheduling the next one if needed.

    Bonus thoughts!

Don’t have a meeting if you don’t have to. A meeting is a tool not a mandate.

Not all meetings need to be an hour! If a meeting can be thirty minutes, do it.

If your meeting is longer than one hour, create a half time for people to stretch, move, and use the bathroom.

    Analog is best for engagement.

Only invite the people that need to be there

Mailbag - Want Derek & Gage to read a note from you on the podcast during the mailbag? Message us on Instagram @AllGoodYears_ or Email Hello@allgoodyears.com! Share what's working, stories, and anything else on your mind.

    Episode Notes:
Here’s the main idea: Slow down, think clearly, and you will live better.

How to improve at being calm, cool, and collected:

    *
Plan it out. Find what unsettles you and make a plan to improve.

    *
Do one thing at a time. We either freeze, or try to do everything. The best strategy is tackling one thing at a time.

    *
Be Like a Duck. You'll just have to listen for this explanation.

    *
Reflect & repeat. Think over what unsettles you and why. Ask yourself hard questions and then go back to step one.

    Bonus thoughts!

    * Get a good nights sleep. You need more sleep than you get!
    * Have a morning & evening routine!
    * Be kind to yourself. It's a process.

This week's challenge: What gets you frantic, hurried, or unsettled? What do you need to change?

Fun for the whole family...

I experienced an ethical dilemma when I started to write a review. I thought, “These guys are great! But wait. I know them and already think they’re great. Am I too biased?!” So this morning I played episode 2 for my wife, who doesn’t know these guys and also thought they were great. Whew. Dilemma be gone! And she specifically said, “They have great podcast voices.” Mic drop right there, people. Then my 5-year-old piped up (who I didn’t think was listening) and said, “And they’re kinda funny too.” There you have it - from the mouths of children. In summary, these guys are both inspiring and entertaining (apparently for the whole family). Plus, simple and practical takeaways. Will definitely keep listening! And not just because I know you. :)
