#057 Are you Highjacked or Ready with Josefine Campbell
My guest today is Josefine Campbell, an author and executive coach who lives in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Josefine draws on her academic expertise, 25+ years of professional experience, and her martial arts background in jiu-jitsu, where she practiced to focus on thriving in unpredictable situations and was a four-time Danish Champion.
Josefine is the author of two books, which you’ll hear about in our conversation, and has written a number of articles on leadership and collaboration in the modern work life that has been published in the international press.
Access her website and some freebies at https://josefinecampbell.com/freebies
Here are my takeaways:
1. Inner Strength needs to be cultivated in modern work life
2. We are designed for survival and the brain does not know the difference between being chased in the jungle or being high-jacked in a meeting.
3. The first step in preventing being highjacked is Awareness. Become aware of the signals your body is telling you.
4. Awareness Matrix looks at personal energy and cognitive capabilities to determine whether you are in the Red Zone and highjacked or Green Zone where you are ready.
5. Release the energy tension in order to be your authentic self. Make small changes to find what works for you.
6. Everyone knows the feeling of leaving a meeting completely drained. That is what it feels like to have your energy impacted.
7. Energy is inside us, outside of us and between us. -
#056 Becoming Aware of Your Emotional Intelligence
In this episode, I’ll share the components that make up emotional intelligence. But it’s one thing to learn about emotional intelligence, and it’s whole other thing to take the time to become aware of what impacts and elevates your emotional intelligence. I’ll give you a hint, it takes self-awareness!
EQ is broken into five categories:
Internal motivation
Self-regulation
Self-awareness
Empathy
Social awareness
I hope you enjoy the episode! -
#055 Inspiring Communication and Intuitive Listening
Inspiring Communication: Be Clear and Concise, practice active listening and be aware of your energy. How you show up comes across in your communication.
Communication can take many forms: a casual conversation with a colleague, a strategic planning session with the team, a presentation to the board, or emails back and forth with clients. And just as much as communication is words, spoken or written, communication is also something felt. Think about it. We feel the energy of the message and are impacted temporarily or permanently by this energy. Whether the communication is given or received, our energy may or may not shift as a result. We may be inspired to take action, become angry or upset, retreat, or we may stay where we are and continue on our existing path. -
#054: Emotions at Work
So, how can we bring emotions into the conversation in a meaningful way. Don’t confuse being emotional with expressing emotions clearly. Here are three things that you can do in the work environment when you are faced with emotions.
Step 1: Acknowledge the Emotion: Take a step back and acknowledge your emotion. What emotion are you experiencing (name it) and what could it be telling you (what value or need do you have that is in conflict)?
Step 2: Remove Judgement: Emotions are not good or bad.
Step 3: Share the Emotion. If you have had a conflict with someone and you feel like it has not been resolved, discuss the emotion without judgement or blame. Ask for a conversation where you both are not trying to problem solving and neither is monopolizing the conversation, but you both share the emotions that you experienced without judgement. And, then you can move into solving how to move forward together. -
#053: Systems Simplified with Erik Darmstetter
Erik Darmstetter is a business growth expert who has founded and led several businesses of his own and helped other organizations dramatically increase sales for companies and organizations of every size. Today, Erik is the CEO of Office Furniture Liquidations of San Antonio approaching 10 years in business and recently winning #1 Furniture Store in San Antonio, I believe for the third year in a row.
What you’ll hear from Erik is a culture that is built around FUN, both for the employees and customer-centric at the same time. And, as the CEO he is living that, because as we all know it starts at the top!
When I consider guests for this podcast now, I’m really looking for leaders that are building business with intention and that might embody some of the THRIVE culture principles.
Tribal ValuesHelpful Processes and SystemsResponsive Listening StrategiesInspiring Inclusivity and BelongingVisible Career and Development OpportunitiesEmpowering Rewards and Recognition
When I was creating my list of ideal guests I immediately thought of Erik. While he could probably speak to each of the principles, we spend our time today discussing "helpful processes and systems".
Here are some of my takeaways:
1. A way to create a system can be as simple as paying attention to anything that causes pain, discomfort, or friction. And creating a solution for that friction.
2. Turn friction (things you don’t like to do) into fun
3. You can use an Autopsy on things that go right AND go wrong. Find the root cause and look for ways to either repeat if it was positive or not repeat if it was negative
4. Listen to the voice of the customer
5. Huddles should be 15 minutes or less and cover news, priorities, and hurdles. Use this with your team daily to provide a regular cadence of communication.
6. Ask yourself why is your business “good”? When things are good in your business find out WHY so you can repeat it.
You can Find Erik and his company on https://www.officefurnituresa.com/ AND they are a lot of fun to watch on social media. You can find them on facebook and Instagram as officefurnituresa. And, if you’re in San Antonio, come hopscotch in or experience the dance circle.
And, if you liked this episode, please leave us a review on Apple podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you are listening. And, if you have a friend that is an entrepreneur, CEO of a non-profit or small business that may benefit from hearing this episode, please share it with them. -
