    138. Making Tough Decisions: Ego or Data

    138. Making Tough Decisions: Ego or Data

We all have to make hard decisions in our lives, but I truly feel that the more we talk about them with others, the more we can help each other out in different ways through these real life moments. Today I want to share with you a key framework I use to base how I make difficult decisions with logic when emotions can get in the way. I’ve specifically used this within my business and career, but can also be applied to your personal life if needed! I’ve provided great questions for you to reflect on in the highlights below, and strongly encourage you to take the time after this episode to go through them so you can ultimately take MORE ACTION!

    Episode Highlights:
    • [4:35] - Relying on gut feeling and intuition at the start of your business, but slowly moving to looking back on experience and evidence the more you grow.
    • [8:05] - First way to make decisions- Reflection based questions:
What would I need or what would need to happen to make my decision be true? Or false?Does this decision get me closer to my goal or does it pull me away? How does this decision affect the people or clients I am serving?Who is preventing me from making the decision? What is stopping me?• [11:55] - “Invert, always invert,” by taking your decisions and flipping them upside down to look at the possible outcomes of making it or not.
    • [13:30] - Second way to make decisions: Data taken towards your business and/or goal.
    • [16:28] - Looking for your data will help you understand how to allocate resources and remove the ego from making tough decisions for your business in the future.
    • [18:55] Sharing a recent decision made in our business using this method.

    137. The Debate: Form vs. Function

Is there something you are holding yourself back from finally executing because you are so distracted by the "perfect" methods and strategies to get there? In this episode, I’ll be sharing something fun I learned recently about the principle of design: Form vs. Function. I’ll explain the background of where the term comes from and how this can directly relate to succeeding at your business or goals in life. Stick around for the end where I’ll provide some reflective questions, so you can start to take more of that messy ACTION and let go of the unnecessary worries keeping you from your potential!

    Episode Highlights:
    • [2:51] - The definition of what form and function are relating to architecture and when it comes to purpose in your life.
    • [5:35] - Form answers the questions of What and How, while function answers the Why.
    • [6:30] - Why we stop or fail to start things that are challenging, along with 2 real world examples and how I took my own imperfect action.
    • [12:45 ] - 3 Questions to ask and reflect on in order to focus on function and make your goals happen!

    136. The Truth About Imposter Syndrome

    136. The Truth About Imposter Syndrome

Today we are getting into a topic I realized I’ve actually never discussed on the show in an episode before, and that is all about imposter syndrome! I had been thinking about this topic recently after listening to a great episode of Chris Williamson’s The Modern Wisdom podcast, where he had another great podcaster Alex Hormozi as his guest, and I loved one specific takeaway from it I want to share. Whether you are experiencing intense feelings of imposter syndrome currently or have in the past, I know I have also personally gone through this at various moments in my career and life, and want to break down research about it, along with some actionable tips and mindset shifts you can use to break off those lies and own your talent!

    Main Highlights:
    • [3:30] - Research on how many people are experiencing this and how it can be looked at in 2 different ways.
    • [8:20] - 3 Critical attributes to defining imposter syndrome and why we can feel this way.
    • [10:00] - Learning how to own and acknowledge these feelings, talk about them and the negative effects of sabotage that can occur when you don’t.
    • [11:25] - More than 5 ACTIONABLE truths you can take to overcome imposter syndrome.
    • [15:50] Using the Star Approach to break down the feelings whether when interviewing or within yourself.
