Episode 56: Tantek Çelik Helps Us Reconsider Our Time Runners of The Bay

    • Health & Fitness

This week we’re talking to Tantek Çelik, a computer scientist, trailer runner, and yogi among many other things. We talk about the philosophy of taking care of your future self and playing around with the perception of time before diving into Tantek’s journey from an asthmatic child to ultra trail runner. It was Bay to Breakers and the November Project that pulled Tantek into the world of running. That community led him to SFRC and the confidence to train for his first 50k and 50 miler. Tantek describes the falls he’s taken and how the hard days are big deposits in the grit bank.

Some highlights from our conversation:

🧽Procrasta-cleaning

🔮Taking care of your future self

🧘🏻‍♂️How yoga brought him to meditation

🕰Playing around with perceptions of time

📋Terrible memories of the physical fitness tests from grade school

💫The power of tackling fears and practicing falling

⛰Taking big falls while running down Mt. Tam

👫Running his first race with his mom and dad at Bay to Breakers

🙌Finding community and training partners to train for his first 50k and 50 milers
