057: All Things ACL & ACL Rehab With Jake Pallpratt

Jake Pallpratt is the name of the man who worked behind the scenes with me to help pull off what most said was impossible; returning to high level sport with no ACL, as little as 12 weeks following the rupture.

Having gone through 2 knee reconstructions himself, Jake has established himself in the local town of Bendigo as one of the leading PHYSIOTHERAPISTS and has a particular area of interest in ACL Rehab.
Having completed a Bachelor of Health Science and Masters of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University Bendigo, Jake now works with clients on a daily basis with a huge focus on sports injury management as well as chronic disease management and is committed in continually develop these skills.
When it comes to sports injuries, there is no greater injury to return from then an ACL rupture. This episode brings you everything you need to know about ACL injuries from a physios point of view, A PT's point of view and also the point of view from 2 people having gone through 5 ACL ruptures. It will create a discussion around the ACL injury itself, research, rehab, performance, return to sport protocols, mindset and everything in between.

The current question that is left burning on my mind even after successfully returning and stringing together consecutive games without any issues... does everyone need an ACL to operate in high impact sport?

054: Building Resilience, Overcoming Adversity and Framing a Positive Mindset with Kyle Maynard

054: Building Resilience, Overcoming Adversity and Framing a Positive Mindset with Kyle Maynard

Kyle Maynard was born a congenital amputee. A rare condition caused him to never fully develop arms and legs in the womb. But before you jump to conclusions, let me brag about this guy: He was a high school wrestling champ—whooping other kids with full abilities—and went on to win weight lifting competitions, fight MMA, and multiple other fights.

Kyle is a motivational speaker, bestselling author, entrepreneur, and known for becoming the first quadruple amputee to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Aconcagua without the aid of prosthetics.

Kyle  has lived his life without excuses, even though he has every right to make them. This is a must listen to episode.

052: From Grief to Awareness with Bendigos Citizen Of The Year - Alannah Mcgregor

052: From Grief to Awareness with Bendigos Citizen Of The Year - Alannah Mcgregor

After suffering the terrible loss of two children, Alannah McGregor has worked tirelessly over the past 19 years to raise awareness of suicide prevention, working towards de-stigmatising mental health and the topic of suicide.

Workplace bullying lead to the deaths of Alannah’s children, and she initially started raising awareness through a short DVD she sent to workplaces to help educate employers and employees.

Alannah then started SPAN Central Victoria in 2011, with the aim of increasing community awareness about the incidence and impact of suicide, and encourage the community to acknowledge and discuss the issue. Her focus is on demystifying what is often a hidden issue in society and share advice on prevention and wellbeing, and to look out for each other.

Each year SPAN Central Victoria holds a Suicide Prevention and Awareness walk and in 2019 received grant funding to hold Safe Talk seminars for workplaces and in the community.

Last year Alannah was also the inaugural recipient of the Fred Hollow’s Foundation Humanitarian of the Year award, which celebrates everyday people who care for others.
