Welcome to the the IBX Tour, where we are blending the worlds of CrossFit and PT. We travel from gym to gym and talk all things CrossFit.

Dr. Wes Hendricks, the Handstand Man

Dr. Wes Hendricks, the Handstand Man

In this week’s episode, Maysa and Hannah hang out with Dr. Wes Hendricks to hear his take on popular misconceptions, false truths, weird analogies, and the reason why people are still being told that their “hips are out of alignment.”

Dr. Wes is what we like to call an "alternative Chiropractor." Wes is a former competitive CrossFit athlete turned handstand guru (mostly for the instagram followers) who spends his days programming for people who are looking for something different in their everyday training. This programming is constantly varied and helps people train around pain while preventing overuse injuries.

From stork theories to pain science, Wes has an opinionated and interesting perspective on all things food, back cracking, CrossFit, and PT. Listen to get fired up and to finally learn what Wes does all day long. We still aren’t sure.

    IBX Athlete Series: Stephanie Rodriguez

    IBX Athlete Series: Stephanie Rodriguez

On this week's episode, Maysa and Hannah sit down with 2018 CrossFit Games Athlete Stephanie Rodriguez. Growing up as a competitive gymnast, Steph found CrossFit intriguing and quickly excelled at her new sport. Steph gives us insight into the mind of an elite athlete - we talk all about the mental game, what training is like, and what goes on in her head during a workout.

Steph talks about the importance of team building, putting your ego aside to do what's best for the team, and her role in helping her team get the invite to the 2018 CrossFit Games (we get details, don't worry) along with her drive to prove people wrong. Steph is the prime example of why we love the CrossFit community - when she finishes a workout, she immediately gets up to start cheering and encouraging other athletes. She recently received the Spirit of the Pine Award at the 2019 Sacred Pine Invitational (note: see previous podcast) because of her awesome attitude, humbleness, and enthusiasm to always lift up those around her.

Steph loves competing and loves how CrossFit has changed her entire life. Listen for more!

    The Secret of Sacred Pine

    The Secret of Sacred Pine

Today Maysa and Hannah get to hang out with Matt Dawkins, possibly the most passionate person ever podcasted. Matt is the owner of CrossFit Sacred Pine, who recently hosted the 2nd annual Sacred Pine Invitational, a huge hit for our CrossFit community. Matt believes we were all created to do something great and does an awesome job of helping his members kick ass into their 90's. Matt took the fast track from CrossFitter to box owner, has loved every second along the way, and has big plans for the future of his box. Matt is passionate about his gym, post workout chocolate milk, having fun, and changing lives.

    Stop Stretching with Chris G

    Stop Stretching with Chris G

Today Maysa and Hannah sit down with Dr. Chris Gregory, PT, PhD (and probably a few more letters) to talk about everything from CrossFit to why stretching may not be making you better in the gym. When he's not olympic lifting or eating donuts, you can find him in the research lab at MUSC. Chris feels that as physical therapists, we can make our professions into anything we want, and has demonstrated this idea throughout his career.

Chris believes in intensity and strongly feels that if you're not used to doing something yourself, you won't know how to push someone else to do it. He has a heavy background in exercise and uses this experience to improve strength, power, and quality of life in his patients.

Listen for more one-liners and to find out what "neuroplasticity" really is.

Matt Shiver - Slamming Bars and Killing PR's

Matt Shiver - Slamming Bars and Killing PR's

In this week’s episode, Maysa and Hannah chat with Dr. Matt Shiver - recent PT grad, strength and conditioning coach, and weightlifting fanatic. From his calculated approach to programming to his shared frustrations with school, Matt is passionate about using his interests and experience to help people become better humans. He offers an interesting perspective on physical therapy, having been introduced to the hybrid model before even stepping foot on Duke’s campus for PT school. Matt agrees that we need to expand our definition of physical therapy and even offers some great advice for all you students (and clinicians!) out there.

We get into some fun debates about bodybuilding, CNS fatigue, spray tans, and tracking macros on the weekends. Listen for more!

CrossFit is a Lifestyle - Kyle Frazier, CF James Island

In this week’s episode, we sit down with Kyle Frazier, owner of CrossFit James Island. Kyle tells us all about his early P90x days, his Christmas break fluff (thanks to white russians) and his career shift from a 9-5 desk job to gym owner. Kyle is passionate about helping people make huge lifestyle changes by taking the holistic approach, and his members have seen great success through his gym’s “life challenge.” We talk about sleep, stress, meditation, recovery, and of course, all things CrossFit.
