    Tweetable Quotes
“One of the biggest things that we worry about with any sort of penetrating trauma to the thorax - the chest or the back - especially if it’s above the diaphragm, is lung injury. When you get stabbed multiple times, you can actually develop a pneumothorax, which essentially is a collapsed lung.” (08:44) (Dr. Fayez)

“There’s so many times in the ER where accidental injuries - and even GSWs (gunshot wounds) - where the bullet literally just barely misses the aorta and lands in the spine but in a way that doesn’t cause any injury to actual the spine itself and these patients escape so luckily.” (15:14) (Dr. Fayez)

“I had no idea what was going on. I say, ‘Why is your pregnancy test positive?’ She says, ‘Not only am I sixty-one, but I also haven’t had sex in five years. So, there is absolutely no way that there is any fertilization going on.’” (18:10) (Dr. Fayez)

“In medical school, I remember learning that some tumors do produce beta-hcg, which is the marker we use to check for pregnancy. The good thing about this was it was more of a tumor; it wasn’t metastatic. I couldn’t find anything in the liver, or any other parts of the lung, or the brain.” (20:36) (Dr. Brian)

“What’s really happening in getting that sensation or that euphoria it’s really causing a dysfunction of brain cells. So, it’s affecting how fast the cells communicate with each other. That’s what gives this phenomena of feeling a buzz or feeling drunk.” (04:12) (Dr. Brian)

“I remember when I was in medical school...I remember interviewing the patient and one of the things I asked was, ‘How much do you drink a day?’ And, this guy was drinking a case of beer each day. That’s twenty-four cans of beer a day. That’s really a huge, massive amount of alcohol.” (05:44) (Dr. Brian)

    Tweetable Quotes
“So, let’s just first even talk about the anatomy. Let’s do a little autopsy on hair. You pluck out your hair; that poor hair follicle is dead. So, we’re gonna do a little autopsy now - a little hair follicle autopsy.” (02:45) (Dr. Brian)

“The whole concept of porosity has to do with how much moisture your hair can absorb and retain. So if it’s low porosity, it means that your hair physically cannot get moisture in it.” (03:08) (Dr. Brian)

“You can’t necessarily change your porosity. It’s usually due to genetics. But, I think it’s a good idea to test your hair just to see because there are certain things you can do to manage your hair based on if you have high, medium, or low porosity.” (05:55) (Dr. Brian)

“There’s certain things you can do, real quick, for low porosity hair. Apply protein-free conditioners when your hair is already wet. Look for glycerin and honey in products like shampoos or conditioners and apply heat to help absorb the moisture.” (09:33) (Dr. Brian)

    Tweetable Quotes
“For thirteen cents you can get a natural (legal) performance enhancing stimulant. So, now I guess you’re wondering, ‘How is that even possible?’ Well, let’s just break it down.” (04:05) (Dr. Brian)

“Most of the studies used 12 mg [of capsaicin] and they were given about forty-five minutes before the exercise so it gives the body time to absorb it and get it into the system. And, there was one study that used a pretty low dose of just 1.2 mg. So, what were the results? In this one study where they ran 1,500 meters, it actually did reduce the time to get to 1,500 meters. So it actually made the runners faster.” (05:08) (Dr. Brian)

“Taking about a 12 mg capsule about forty-five minutes before doing weight training also increased the number of repetitions that they could do at seventy-five percent of their max with a standardized rest interval.” (07:02) (Dr. Brian)

“Interestingly enough, there are several mechanisms and I’m going to give you the three top ones. So, the first mechanism is that [Capsaicin] is increasing, very likely, calcium release in the muscles. And so, the more calcium that gets released, the increased contractability and strength you get out of the muscle. Also, it looks like it increases fatty acid oxidation, another source of energy and increases the amount of power out of the muscles. And the third is that it decreases pain.” (08:21) (Dr. Brian)

“In fact, Capsaicin or having some spicy peppers, like jalapeño peppers, can boost your exercise performance and also for weight lifting and strength training as well.” (09:45) (Dr. Brian)
