    Scout Chavers is a community birth worker, student midwife, and yoga teacher who is passionate about the cycles of life, death, and pleasure.



    She is joining us on Jess on the Mountain today to talk about how the chakras and her journey as a birthing professional have taught her important lessons in letting go, holding space, and the power of pleasure.



    Scout says that chakra work changed everything for her when she took her first chakra training with Anodea Judith a decade ago (I was in that training too!).



    "It was the first thing that gave me language to things that I felt like I understood for a long time but didn't have language for."



    My conversation with Scout is rich and deep as we explore a variety of topics that ultimately lead us to the theme of delight and how she views pleasure and joy as not only a birthright but a form of activism.

    Ep. 35 Delight in Letting Go (Chakra Two)

    We hold so much within us, and letting go is a practice that leads to openness and space for delight.

    In this episode, we explore a few types of attachments, or kleshas, that keep us from experiencing ease and flow.


    1. Attachment to ideas about what is perfect or ideal and letting go to find delight in the just right for right now; that Perspective Training skill!


    2. Attachment to My Way in different contexts and how letting go allows us to delight in seeing something bloom and grow as we loosen our grip.


    3. Attachment as Heart Walls that prevent vulnerability and keep us hidden behind an identity, and breaking down those walls so we can fully delight in our life and relationships.

    We also talk about where you might experience physical symptoms in your body that are clues to what needs to be released.

    Change is a constant, so finding delight in letting go of what does not serve us is a freeing practice!

    May your inner guru help you see what needs letting go, may you do the work to release it, and may that lead to a life of delight and ease, as you walk up and around this mountain we call life.

    This episode is fun and different because this time I'm the one getting interviewed! I recently had a joyful conversation with Shannon Jamail, the founder and creator of Mind & Body Complete, and host of the Retreat Leader's Podcast.



    You might remember Shannon from last season's podcast when I interviewed her for Episode 28: Embodying Surrender and Manifestation. Shannon owns a retreat center called Retreat Ranch just outside of Austin in the beautiful hill country and I hosted a sold-out retreat there last Fall. It is such a beautiful space that I booked another retreat there for this coming April!



    I always enjoy my conversations with Shannon, but this one was extra delightful because it was all about retreats - why they're important, and how they can help us cultivate transformation and nourish our second chakra.

    Ep. 33 Granthis: Blocks to your delight, with Ana Pilar Cruz

    Today we welcome back the guest from our most downloaded episode of last season – Ana Pilar Cruz. She's a teacher's teacher and an expert in yoga philosophy.



    Our second conversation is centered on the second chakra (how fitting!). We kicked things off right away with a question that is frequently debated among those of us who study the chakra system:



    Can chakras become blocked?



    Tune in for Ana Pilar's thoughtful response to this question and the discussion that follows around granthis ("grun-tees"), which means "knot".



    There are three main granthis in the body - one is associated with desire and attaches us to the physical world and our sense of self, one has to do with our karma and action, and one is affiliated with time and separation of self from the greater whole.



    This is a fascinating topic and Ana Pilar does a wonderful job of explaining them in such a way that makes it tangible to understand not only what they are and where they reside in our bodies, but also how they affect us.

Impactful Podcast

I first heard Jess on another podcast I was listening to, she was the guest that day. I was very intrigued by what she was sharing about Chakras. After that particular podcast ended, I immediately went to find her podcast, Jess on the Mountain. I listened to every episode she had done up to that date. It was like water to my soul. Episode 8 grabbed my attention and I took her message to heart...get rest quick. I was a parched, dried up river at that point in my life and those words jumped out at me like a neon sign. I took those words to heart, spent that weekend writing about what was happening internally in me, and decided I needed to make a change in my life. I made that small change and it has had an enormous impact on my life and my family's life. I do not believe I would be where I am today if it hadn't been for Jess's podcast and Episode 8. Jess speaks from her heart. She is authentic and offers so many opportunities to learn more. Thank you for all that you do Jess.

Informative, accessible, heartfelt and needed

I’ve been listening to Jess on the Mountain this past week and absolutely love it! Jess is a wonderful writer with beautifully inspirational messages to get us through the next moment, and she is totally REAL in her applications and suggestions for life. Jess’s knowledge, wisdom and passion for the teachings come through clearly- her episodes are informative and accessible, laced with her friendliness and humor. I’m so glad there are two new episodes awaiting my brain and body tomorrow 🙌🏼 It has reignited my interest in the chakras, and framing the way I see myself and my special people in energetic and compassionate ways.
