Stick to Sports: USC, UCLA to B1G with LGHL's Resident Angelino; Favorite Pop Culture of 2022 So Far (07/05/22)

Land-Grant Holy Land’s Stick to Sports is unlike any podcast you’ve heard on the Ohio State beat. Your hosts, Matt Tamanini and Jami Jurich, will (of course) talk Ohio State sports, but the primary focus of the show will be on what’s going on around the periphery, such as weird/funny happenings in college football and the sports world at large, as well as other things that keep us interested in between games, whether that’s pop culture, social media trends— you name it.
On today's episode, as Matt and Jami get back into the pre-season podcasting schedule by discussing the biggest news in college football as USC and UCLA are officially heading to the Big Ten. As Jami is Land-Grant Holy Land's West Coast Bureau chief and only Los Angeles resident, the pair breaks down the news from every angle including local fan reaction, travel concerns, kickoff times, what's next, and much more.
Then, they break down their favorite pieces of pop culture so far in 2022. Hear what movies and TV shows have gotten them through the hellacious first six months of the year and let them know what your favorite things have been by reaching out on Twitter or in the article version of this episode on Land-Grant Holy Land.

I-70 Football Show: An in Depth Dive into a the new Big Ten

Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Holy Land’s I-70 podcast. On this show we talk all things Big Ten football and basketball. After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
USC and UCLA broke the internet by joining the Big Ten causing us to throw out the show plan. We spend the whole episode breaking down this groundbreaking move from all angles. USC, with their brand, and Oregon with their play was the only thing keeping the Pac-12 alive. Now USC and their Los Angeles counterparts are leaving for the Big Ten. We discuss the impact this has on the Pac-12 and how we should have seen this coming after the Larry Scott hiring essentially destroyed the conferences reputation.
Next, we discuss the aftershocks. Will the Big 12 play the aggressor and try to poach a few teams from the Pac-12? Oregon and Washington are they dream but with their reported interest in the Big Ten, could Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah end up in a 16 team Big 12? Would the Big 12 consider going to 18 teams and adding Cal and Stanford? Plus, what could the Big Ten do next? Does Notre Dame reconsider, will they add Oregon and Washington? How long until the ACC breaks their grant of rights and schools end up in the SEC?
With all the commotion it's easy to forget the best part which is the actual games. The guys get into the on-field impact including future scheduling. The Big Ten is going to have a hard deciding the three protected opponents in their new 3-6-6 scheduling model. Should they make Ohio State vs. USC a yearly game? What do they do with secondary rivalries like Michigan/Michigan State and Ohio State/Penn State? Jordan discusses his proposed permanent games while Dante switches things up to find the best match ups. Lastly this move sends a signal to the Big Ten. Who will take note and strive to get better? Plus, how soon does USC develop on the lines to face Big Ten competition?

Play Like a Girl: Unpopular Opinions Edition (07/03/22)

Play Like a Girl: Unpopular Opinions Edition (07/03/22)

On LGHL’s Play Like a Girl podcast, Meredith Hein welcomes in friends from around the LGHL, Ohio State, and sporting worlds to talk everything from Ohio State sports to advocacy for women in sports and all the happenings in between.
Welcome back to the show! In honor of LGHL’s Unpopular Opinions week, Megan and Meredith dive into their most niche ideas, from why Megan hates recruiting multiple high-profile players from the same position (sorry, Brian Hartline) and yet is okay being a bandwagoner (including for the Warriors - just gross), to why Meredith wants to see more four-year players taken in the NBA Draft and in-state players winning championships.
Oh, and lest we forget, it turns out Meredith hates country music and Star Wars and Megan likes cottage cheese and Nickelback. How? I don’t know.

When we get back from the break, we get into a rapid fire recruiting segment where we discuss the big week on the trail We get into the two cornerback commitments for Tim Walton and how he might land a three-peat of his own with Jermaine Mathews committing today (7/1). We discuss who we think will be contenders and why the ACC could be a really fun conference this season due to a lot of parity. I-70 Football Show: Celebrating 50 years of Title IX

I-70 Football Show: Celebrating 50 years of Title IX

Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Holy Land’s I-70 podcast. On this show we talk all things Big Ten football and basketball. After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
In this episode the guys preview some more of the Big Ten football schedule. After a dud in week two, weeks three and four bring some heat. In week three we get an Oklahoma vs Nebraska rematch, last year was a close loss with a new quarterback and a redesigned coaching staff can Nebraska get a big win to start their season? While lesser games SU vs Maryland will be an interesting game as Maryland hopes to reach back-to-back bowl games. Michigan State wants to prove that their 2021 season was not a fluke, they can do that by going to Washington and dominating a solid opponent.
In week four we have two candidates for best game of the year. Michigan State vs. Minnesota will be an intense game of two teams in similar places. Both ahead of schedule and hoping to break through their ceiling to reach the top of the mountain but they must go through their rival to get there. Both teams hope to win their division in 2022 but this game will go a long way to seeing which team is further along. Wisconsin comes into Columbus hoping that Braelon Allen can lead them to a pivotal win over the Buckeyes. The guys get into some basketball news as well as the Big Ten had nine players drafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, three of which went in the lottery.
In their weekly pit stops Jordan thanks all the people who put hours of work into preview magazines. We would not be able to do our job without them. Dante sets the table to celebrate 50 years of Title IX. We have come a long way in 50 years and have a lot to celebrate but we still have much more work to do. The success of Women’s college basketball and softball as well as women’s international soccer has shown that women's sports is a viable sports product when invested in. It always has been, but the masses are finally starting to pay attention. Here is to more growth and success in Women's sports for the next 50 years and beyond.

What’s with the dot matrix printer in the background?

Two weeks in a row we have to listen to the sound of a dot matrix printer as background to George Eisner and Ben Goren. Any chance you can move that thing or find a better spot to record?

Complaining about snow?

I enjoyed the cast but complaining about cold and snow against TTUN in Ohio is ridiculous. We aren’t Arizona St. open a window. They have Warm weather recruits too. It’s cold in late Nov! Other than that keep up the good work.

Bucketheads

Landed an interview with Holtmann and really enjoyed their well thought out questions. The guys really do bring a lot of effort and research to CBB talk and we’re in the dead heat of the basketball off-season.

If you’re not subscribed now make sure you are for BBall season.
