Long-Term Thinking by Colin Wright of Exile Lifestyle on Personal Growth & Self Improvement

Long-Term Thinking by Colin Wright of Exile Lifestyle on Personal Growth & Self Improvement

    Episode 3258:

Colin Wright explores the importance of long-term thinking through the lens of The Long Now Foundation's 10,000 Year Clock. This monumental project emphasizes our unique human ability to plan far into the future, urging us to extend our perspective beyond immediate concerns to benefit future generations and avoid repeating past mistakes.

Read along with the original article(s) here: https://exilelifestyle.com/long-term-thinking/

    Quotes to ponder:

"We have that capability, but we tend not to use it very often, because day-to-day concerns have priority, and moment-to-moment concerns even more so."

"The power of recording information and thinking long-term is that we can inoculate ourselves against some types of mistakes that we would otherwise make over and over again."

"Maintaining a sense of self place within broader swathes of time - helps us consider where things are going across eons, rather than limiting our time-horizon to today."

    Episode 3257:

Krista O'Reilly-Davi-Digui reflects on her experiences with loneliness as an introvert. She discusses how loneliness often stems from inner grief rather than a lack of social interaction, emphasizing the importance of embracing solitude and finding personal connections that are meaningful.

Read along with the original article(s) here: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/are-you-lonely/

    Quotes to ponder:

"Loneliness for me is less about needing people and more about grief, a call to do some inner work."

"Being busy or sitting in a crowd is not the antidote to lonely, although it might offer a temporary distraction."

"Joyful living is not the absence of pain or struggle. It is a choice. A decision to step out despite the struggle."

Be more upfront about repeat episodes

This show has a fair amount of good original content. However, I have noticed a lot more in the last year either (a) the podcast replays previously aired episodes (without mentioning this in the intro) or (b), airing very outdated podcasts (where there are mentions during the podcast that lead you to believe it was written 5 or 10 years ago and may not be fully relevant today).

To not waste a listeners time, it would be nice if like other podcasts, they would mention if it was not a new episode or if first the time being played and it’s older, say “here is a new episode we haven’t featured from 2016”, etc. Otherwise I feel like I’m being played lol.

Thanks!
