#102: GI issues and chronic illness in recovery

#102: GI issues and chronic illness in recovery

This week's episode is all about gastro-intestinal issues and chronic illness in recovery. As most of you probably know, I suffer from chronic Lyme's disease (and did so during my recovery as well), so I know a fair bit about chronic illness and recovery. However, even if you don't have any underlying health issues, you most likely will experience some physical discomfort during your recovery. I know all too well how disheartening it can be when you're trying to treat your body well, and it still hurts/hurts worse. Or how it can feel like your eating disorder actually was healthier when symptoms flare up during recovery. BUT I also know first-hand how physical discomfort/chronic illness can be a motivation/reason to recover. If you're wanting to break free from your eating disorder, but are struggling to cope with the physical discomfort during recovery, this episode is for you!

    #99: All things weight-gain

    #99: All things weight-gain

Eating disorders may not be about weight, and do not necessarily lead to weight loss, but weight-gain in recovery is pretty much inevitable, because it's necessary. I can hear the wheels of your eating disorder churning at that comment, producing words like "bad" and "unhealthy", but guess what... it is neither of those things. Today's episode is all about why it isn't bad or unhealthy and in fact, pretty much the opposite. So if you find yourself thinking "help, I don't want to gain weight", tune in to today's episode!

#98: The most sleep deprived podcast ep (not my best work) / how many calories does the body need?

When you've struggled with an eating disorder, your idea of how much food your body needs may get a little bit distorted. Between restriction, food guilt, and diet culture, determining how many calories you actually need, can be incredibly hard. And those who experience extreme hunger often exclaim "surely I don't need to do that much catching up?!". Spoiler alert: You do. In today's episode I'll talk about how you know how much you need, why I can't tell you how much you need (and why diet culture can't either!), and why either way you don't need to count them.

    #97: Recovering on your own

In light of the launch of my newest project, the DVK® recovery guide (launching 26th of April 2024!), today's episode is all about 'recovering on your own'. How can you recover if you don't have access to (the right) professional help? How can you translate my coaching - tips, tricks, and methods - into 'do it yourself' recovery? Why do those around you matter and where (and how) can you find non-professional support that? All these topics will be discussed in this episode. But if you want a more in-depth discussion, as well as a step-by-step explanation of my very own - tried and trusted - recovery method (that I use with my clients) and access to a supportive, recovery friendly, Facebook group, be sure to check out my guide once it launches!

I’ve definitely listened to many of your podcasts over and over again. I always look forward to a mix of real life vents, and brutally honestly recovery truths. You show that life isn’t sunshine and roses when recovered but also show that it’s worth it.
