I’ve Learned So Much

As a volunteer crisis counselor having completed nearly 1,800 conversations with children, teens, and adults I continue to learn and grow. Many of which involve suicide prevention and creating a safe space for those struggling.

I’m, in my humble opinion, good at what I do though on some level I see myself as volunteer krill. Not a degreed professional. I know I leave those I speak with better the majority of the time though more needs to be done.

I have started listening today and will continue. My understanding of my role has changed. I see myself as an element of a fire team for Mental Health. (Thank you for that.) These podcasts have given me so much more in terms of understanding, language, metaphor, and analogy I know my conversations will improve exponentially.

Thank you

Where are the solutions??

All I hear on this podcast is stories about the speakers’ background and interests, and their endless insignificant details. Bravo for them. But really who cares. If someone is tuning into this podcast, they would be looking for solutions, now, instead of wading through endless rhetoric.

Great Tribe

Combat veteran turned mental health clinician Duane France, interviewing Harold S. Kudler, who references Jonathan Shay, author of “Achilles in Vietnam: Combat Trauma and the Undoing of Character”, provides a rich reframing of how all of us, to include veterans, civilians, senior military command and active duty service members, and mental health providers, can and should collectively seek to breakdown barriers to treatment. The perspective Dr. Kudler provides in Episode 46 is not only fascinating history, it suggests a way forward to ensuring no veteran, and those family and friends who love them, are ever left alone to fall between the cracks.
