What is a Wildpreneur and How Anyone Can Become One

What is a Wildpreneur and How Anyone Can Become One

Tamara Jacobi, owner of the Tailwind Jungle Lodge and author of the book Wildpreneurs, shares her journey of starting a jungle eco-lodge in Mexico and becoming (a term she coined) a Wildpreneur. Raised by very adventurous parents who considered backpacking or bike-packing for a month (or 2) a typical family adventure led her to write up the business plan for a jungle lodge in college and create that business when she was just 21.

For nearly 20 years, Tamara has been learning lessons as she goes, creating a road of her own. This is ultimately what inspired her to write her book to offer insights and advice for those looking to start their own off-the-beaten-track business. She is also the guide community leader and head of accommodation partnerships at Thermal – a company offering private surf adventures.

Tamara reminds us to enjoy the journey (not just the destination) which has been a lifelong lesson across all aspects of her life personally, professionally, as a mom and a partner.

    96. Why It’s Definitely NOT A Midlife Crisis

    96. Why It’s Definitely NOT A Midlife Crisis

Spoiler alert: it’s because we are far from mid-life 🤣 Also, we don’t feel that they exist…except for when they do. But for the most part, craving a change is not a crisis. We are humans, we evolve, our wants change, our desires change, we change. This episode starts out light with some T & A catch-up and then we get into the conversation on “mid-life” changes. Tune in and remember, it’s never too late to do something you want to do or new to you.

In this episode, we meet Dani Reyes-Acosta, athlete, filmmaker, adventurer, and so much more! Dani shares her and her family’s background with us from their start generations ago in Colorado. We talk about her skiing from a young age to finding surfing and the ocean to eventually making her way back to the mountains and falling in love with snowboarding & splitboarding. She also tells us about her experience starting her own production company, Afuera Productions, and The Outlier film series, which aims to tell culturally acute stories in the outdoor industry.

We also discuss the importance of community and expanding our perspectives in the outdoors and the need to step outside of our comfort zones, and the value of reframing how we view our time outside and setting goals that are grounded in our own reality.

    94. How Mountaineering & the Outdoors Became a Source of Healing

    94. How Mountaineering & the Outdoors Became a Source of Healing

I met Natalie back in 2018 at a gym in Truckee, CA where we were both working. This girl was the epitome of what my idea of a personal trainer was. I was awestruck. Then I met her, and was even more in love with this human! Her energy is contagious and she is the kindest most compassionate human. It didn’t take long before I learned about the loss of her brother on his first tour in the Army and uncovered layers of Natalie and how this was the catalyst for the way she lives her life today and the pursuits she takes on, like climbing Denali at the end of May.

Natalie found mountaineering in 2020 and found it to be incredibly healing for her. After a bit of a hiatus, she got back to it and set her sights on climbing Denali. The fact that it requires you to be entirely self-sufficient and in addition to carrying a heavy pack, you are also responsible for hauling a sled up the mountain, was appealing to her.

“This climb represents so much more than a summiting a mountain. It exemplifies the hardships faced when losing a loved one, the hurdles one must overcome in order to enter a space of healing and the community it requires in order to tackle such a feat.” – Natalie

Natalie is doing this climb to create awareness around Gold Star Families and Gold Star Sisters especially. She aims to raise 10k to sponsor a weekend retreat in the beautiful Bavarian village of Leavenworth, WA. The event will be an all-expense paid weekend for 6 sisters: 3 Gold Star sisters, 2 active duty sisters & one veteran sister. Please donate here to help Natalie reach her goal! She only has 2k to go!

Follow Natalie on IG: @diaryofanoverweightsuitcase and stay tuned for a live tracking link once she takes off on the climb in late May! Stay updated on her climb here: https://www.alpineascents.com/climbs/denali/cybercasts/

AlaskanLiz ,

So relatable and honest!

I love listening to this show, especially when I’m out running or biking or doing any outdoor activity. The conversations are so honest and relatable, and they do a great job of unpacking all of the expectations that society now puts on us in this day & age of social media and instant gratification. Really encouraging and motivating toward doing what is good for YOU

Feels like coffee with a friend!

Feels like sitting outdoors chatting over coffee with your best friends! Tarin is so enthusiastic and relatable and every episode gives me a nugget to think about for the next few days. So cool to see the show merge a bunch of passions and interests that help me learn new things and connect with new people I want to know more about.
