REAL TALK RECOVERY #99: My Partner Has Lusted After My Friends. How Do I Manage Those Relationships Now?

REAL TALK RECOVERY #99: My Partner Has Lusted After My Friends. How Do I Manage Those Relationships Now?

Caller Question: "My husband disclosed three months ago that he is a sex addict. Specifically pornography and masturbation. We are in the thick of the work, and I acknowledge it’s early still. Here’s where I’m stuck: while he never physically cheated on me, he admitted that a large aspect of his addiction was a sexual fantasy- he provided me with a list of 25 of my female friends and neighbors he has fantasized about and masturbated to. I believe he is repentant, I believe he wants to heal, and that he’s working hard. But part of my work is trying to find forgiveness… and I can’t. I can’t look at these women in my everyday life without being hit hard with the hurt all over. I’m pulling away from friends (of course they have no idea why), distancing myself and my kids from neighborhood activities and friends, and I feel stuck. My closest friends who should be a support system right now feel poisonous, and I’m not sure how to process and move beyond this."

REAL TALK RECOVERY #98: My Partner's Words Don't Meet Up With His Actions. What Do I Do?

Caller Question: "Hi. I am struggling with this concept. If my husband really wanted to change and stop looking at porn/ talking to women, wouldn't he? I see him working with his counselor and 12 step but the pattern remains. I keep giving him the benefit of the doubt in his recovery but then o get stuck in moving forward in mine."

My guest interviewer, Amy Kohler, is one of my best friends who is a member of the religion I left.  I wanted to keep this episode safe for those on both sides of religion & Amy was the answer for that.  She was a guest on episode #9 about designing the life you want.  She is a business owner, designer, mother and wife. She is passionate about building and growth in her life, within herself, her business, and building up those around her. She lives and works in Utah’s Heber Valley with her husband and three kids.  Her business Styled Life Design specializes in new build construction design. She believes that your environment can reflect you, and help you to achieve your dream life.

We met in line at a conference where i was speaking. Kept in contact online. Then years later wound up rooming together at ALT summit in Palm Springs California - the rest is history I suppose. Lots of events, dance parties, walk and talks, Marco polos, more conferences, karaoke, axe throwing, double dates — you name it. We do the fun and the serious, laugh and cry. We talk therapy, kids, business, spirituality and life.

REAL TALK RECOVERY #97: Is Fear Holding Me Back From Doing The Thing That I Know Is Right?

REAL TALK RECOVERY #97: Is Fear Holding Me Back From Doing The Thing That I Know Is Right?

Caller Question: "I am in the process of filing for divorce. I feel it was the right decision, however now that I have been out of the situation that caused a nervous system overload, and as the hurt caused is starting to fade, I am more clearly able to see my role/issues/shortcomings I played a role in in the marriage (critical, expecting him to live up to my husband “manual”, layering shame on top of his already existing shame) the list goes on … this is leaving me with conflicting feelings… and it hurts. It isn’t fun to see that I guess my question is how do I sort through the feelings of the divorce being what I needed to do and feeling like … I could have done much better at ex//(Not layering on the shame whenever he made a mistake/speaking my truth calmly when triggered )… the feeling is maybe there is more I could have done? I am feeling a responsibility for the situation too where I hadn’t really before…. Kind of a messy, unorganized question, but these are my thoughts. Thanks for your time!"

THIS IS ASHLYNN Ep 20: The Untold Story

So I’ve enjoyed listening to “The Betrayed, the Addicted, and the Expert” in past years! I took a little listening hiatus and was surprised to come back to the podcast and learn that so much had changed for you guys. I’m sorry to hear that, and to consider how challenging that must have been. I really appreciated you sharing your story. I actually happen to be the addict in my relationship; but I really found what you had to say, in this episode, to be really helpful. So thank you so much, and for your willingness to share your experiences with others. God bless.

Healing my shame through empowerment

I found this podcast years ago while working my S-Anon program. It has brought me out of my shame of my husband’s addiction and believing I was never good enough for him or anyone else around me. It has helped me to stop my shaming loud voices in my head and face and acknowledge them. I also was able to see addiction from his side and realize the pain he was also in.
Their divorce hit me hard as I was also separated from my husband and leaning toward divorce. I thought there was no hope in the world for a recovering addict and had to stop listening for a few months.
I am so glad I came back and love all the different perspectives they offer. Ashlynn’s Be the Buffalo resonates in my soul. I feel strengthened with each podcast to love myself and focus on my side of the street.
Your team is a lighthouse to the dark and lonely who suffer in silence and shame.

Recognizing Value - Thank you!

Brannon, Ashlynn and Coby are just humans like the rest of us. When I found out about the divorce, I was frustrated. But I shouldn’t be judging, or aiming my shoulds at others. At the end of the day, these three put themselves out there. Inasmuch as they share principles that have worked to some extent for them, this can be a great resource. I applaud them! Coby, lift up your head and rejoice! You have value. Real immense value. So do the rest of us. Even when we fail over and over again. Thank you for this great resource! I am working my way through all the older episodes, and quickly listen to the new ones. Plus, now I know about Real Talk Recovery and Tyler Patrick. I’m loving to hear about being the Buffalo from Ashlynn.
