The Journey to Salon Ownership: Embracing Leadership and Continuous Growth | Episode 214

In this episode of the Big Money Stylist Podcast, Danielle K. White, the creator of Natural Beaded Rows (NBR) extensions and ISLA Hand Tied Hair, is joined by fellow stylist and salon owner Danielle Sprando. The conversation dives into the challenges and triumphs of becoming a new salon owner, the importance of effective communication and education with apprentices, and the ongoing journey of personal and professional growth.
Danielle S. shares her recent experience of opening her salon and the goals she has set for herself, including becoming a better leader and mentor for her team. The discussion also touches on the value of setting realistic goals, the concept of living in "the gap" versus "the gain," and the significance of appreciating current achievements while striving for future success.
Your Top 5 Action Items From this Episode:
    1. Communicate Effectively: Whether you're working with clients or training apprentices, clear and detailed communication is key. Start practicing over-communication to ensure everyone is on the same page.
    2. Set Structured Goals: Instead of vague resolutions, set specific, structured goals that align with your personal and professional aspirations. For salon owners, this might mean focusing on becoming a better leader and educator.
    4. Appreciate the Present: While it's important to have future goals, don't overlook your current successes. Practice gratitude for where you are now and the progress you've made.
    5. Seek Continuous Education: No matter how experienced you are, there's always room to learn and grow. Consider enrolling in advanced courses or workshops to refine your skills and stay updated with the latest industry trends.
    6. Delegate with Oversight: As a salon owner, learn to delegate tasks effectively. If you're not keen on managing certain aspects of the business, hire someone with the right experience and establish regular check-ins to stay informed.

GIRL YES!!

I start cosmetology school at the end of May and have been on the hunt to find educational podcasts for stylist to learn about where the industry stands today. Literally minutes ago, I came across Danielles podcast and started listening to the “marketing tips for hairstylist” episode and oh my lord someone finally said it!!! Ironically enough, as I’m about to start school, I am also on the hunt for a new hairstylist and while looking for a new stylist, I have seen that SO many stylist, do not have any pricing ranges posted on their website. I understand that some luxury services do need consultations to talk in depth with pricing. However all consumers want to have an idea on how much it’s going to cost WITHOUT having to speak to someone about it. Out of all the stylist podcasts that I have listened too, this is the first one, (that I have found,) where someone has mentioned how important it is to have pricing reference ranges listed. Unless you are Beyoncé or Taylor swifts hairstylist, not posting your pricing reference ranges in hurting you. This is coming from (me) a consumer who ignored the stylists in my area who do not have pricing reference ranges listed. I want to know without having to speak with you.
