33 Dr. Saba Rizvi, MD - Is Private Equity Hurting Healthcare and Driving up Costs at the Expense of Patient Care?

Welcome to today’s episode of The Call Room. Today on the podcast, we have with us Dr. Saba Rizvi, MD, an emergency medicine physician. Dr. Rizvi is also currently studying to earn her law degree at Baylor University.

Dr. Rizvi recently published an article in Emergency Medicine News about private equity contract management groups, and we thought it would be great to hear more from her about the role they are playing in healthcare and the cost of patient care. We will learn about the current state of healthcare in relation to private equity groups, the problems they’ve created and discuss steps that can be taken by physicians to get medicine away from them.
Listen in to today’s episode to learn about Private equity, how it affects physicians, their patients, and healthcare in nearly every aspect. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Dr. Rizvi as much as I did!
“We really need to go back to getting out of the employment model in hospitals and going back to just running our own practices and running our own businesses. That’s what’s going to give us back that power.” — Dr. Saba Rizvi, MD

32 Informed Consent for Athletes and Return to Play - Who should Decide When it’s Safe to Return to Sports after Surgery

Today on The Call Room, we’re talking about informed consent and why it’s important to consider when advising an athlete to return to sports after an injury.
This episode was sparked from recent conversations I've been seeing online and I thought it would be great to share my own thoughts to further the conversation.
Listen in to learn about the factors involved when advising an injured athlete about their return to sports, and the complexities that require a case-by-case analysis.
“It is informed consent, discussing the risks and benefits with the athlete. No one athlete is the same, and no sport is the same.”- Dr. Robert Berry.

29 Masks, Testing, Lockdowns and Vaccines - How do we Open up America?

29 Masks, Testing, Lockdowns and Vaccines - How do we Open up America?

Today we're talking about the spread of the covid-19 virus, vaccines, testing and lockdowns. Can we as a nation re-open and resume normalcy that we once knew?
With new leadership in the United States, and a year since covid has started, we are locked down more than we ever were. Dismissed recommendations are now being reconsidered, no standards on the amount of cycles of threshold in the testing process; reactions to vaccines and testing are becoming a big business.
"Treating early is the most important thing, even if somebody is negative, they should get treatment, and the treatment has been very politicized, which is really concerning for me as a physician." - Dr. Robert Berry.
