Escaping the Rat Race Through Index Fund Investing

Escaping the Rat Race Through Index Fund Investing

    Episode 22 with Dessy John

“And it's funny when nobody else knows that you've been building towards this, you decide to leave a traditional job and it sounds like you're speaking a different language. People are just like, “How can you possibly be doing this?” I'm like, like you said, I didn't do this overnight. This has been literally a solid decade plus of planning for this. And again, like some good fortune, a few lucky bounces came my way as well. But it takes a lot of planning. It takes a lot of education. It takes a lot of diligence. And yeah, hopefully, you know, for most people if that is their goal, they will eventually get there. But yeah, it was it was like you said, it's never exactly planned. I mean nobody's gonna plan their life down to a T. Sometimes you just see an opportunity and you jump on it, and you lay in the bed that you make hoping that it is the right decision. So far for me, it's been about five months, and I have absolutely zero regrets.”
Join Glenn as he interviews Dessy John, a Silicon Valley marketer turned solopreneur. After working in the corporate world for 15 years at companies like Adobe and Zillow, he was able to find financial independence by investing in index funds and diversifying his assets. After leaving his W2 job, Dessy founded Change Agent Wealth Coaching, a personal finance coaching and education service aimed at helping others transform their relationship with money.
    Glenn and Dessy discuss:
His journey from marketing and tech to personal finance coachingLong-term planning and self-educationThe power of investing in index funds and diversifying assetsBenefits of index funds and weathering market volatilityTransitioning to entrepreneurshipChallenges and rewards of entrepreneurshipReal estate investments and primary residencesHow to leverage entrepreneurship and real estatePreparing for financial independence

From Window Tinting to Multifamily Millionaire

From Window Tinting to Multifamily Millionaire

    Episode 21 with Brad Hreha

“The approach that I take with my students is I'm going to give you everything I know, but you need to go out there and get beat up a little bit. You need to skin your knees. You need to come back a little bit of bloody to go, ‘OK, that doesn't work.’ Right. I can give you all the information. But until you put yourself through it and you mess up and look like a fool, you don't really learn it. I have to keep trying to get you to understand on your own that, ‘Hey, this is what works. This is what doesn't work. ‘ And a coach is not boom, a straight line to what it is that you want, but It's a much straighter line than just trying to figure it out on your own.”
Join Glenn as he interviews Brad Hreha, a real estate entrepreneur based in New Jersey. Brad started his entrepreneurial journey in the window tinting business but ultimately found his passion in multifamily real estate. He is the CEO of Hreha Investments, a company currently holding a portfolio of 158 units. Brad has written a book on multifamily investment and coaches private lenders and aspiring entrepreneurs wanting to get started in the multifamily investment business.
    Glenn and Brad discuss:
His journey from a window tinting business to multi-family real estate investmentsUsing Facebook to make connections to coaches and potential partnersPros and cons of the different multi-family real estate classesInsurance rates and interest rates in property ownershipCompeting with larger real estate institutionsThe importance of buying right with the right structureThe importance of underwriting in multi-family investingCoaching and accountability in real estate

Getting to the Next Level Income with Chris Larsen

Getting to the Next Level Income with Chris Larsen

    Episode 20 with Chris Larsen
“So, I knew that I couldn't take my business from say $5 million to $50 million by myself. I needed a team to do that, right? So, if I'm getting paid a certain amount per hour, like let's say I'm making a hundred dollars an hour. $200,000 a year. That's pretty good. But if you want to make $500,000 a year, $250 an hour, you probably can't just work two and a half times more. You have to scale. You almost have to give up the responsibility for certain things and release control of those things. So you need to go from being a producer to more of a leader.”
Join Glenn as he interviews Christopher Larsen, the founder and Principal of Next-Level Income. Since “retiring” after 18 years in the medical device industry, he now dedicates himself to guiding others to financial independence through education and strategic investments. Chris has been investing in and managing real estate for over 20 years. He has experience in development, private-lending, distressed debt as well as commercial office, and syndications including assets across: multifamily, self-storage, hotels, mobile home parks, car washes and senior housing. Since 2016 he has been actively involved in over $1.5B of real estate acquisitions.

    Glenn and Chris discuss:
    ·         The mission of Next Level Income
    ·         His transition from medical device sales to real estate
    ·         The concept of infinite banking (IBC)
    ·         Considerations and pitfalls of IBC
    ·         Teaching children about money and values
    ·         Maximizing productivity and scaling a business

Building a Family Real Estate Empire!

Building a Family Real Estate Empire!

    Episode 19 with William Hicks
“So I would recommend to any of your young listeners or viewers, and when I say young, I mean, you could be in your mid to late forties. You're still young enough, it's not too late. Put money into passive income, mobile home parks, apartments, anything, anything with more than a dozen doors on it. That's what Grant Cardone says anyway. He likes 13 doors and more. But anything that's going to pay you back because in, you know, 5, 10, 20 years, you'll be glad you did.”
Join Glenn as he interviews William Hicks, a father and grandfather, who started his career in the asphalt business as a teenager and built his financial success by investing in mobile home parks. In the 1990s, he purchased his first mobile home park and hasn't looked back. William now has over 2,000 units all over the country.
    Glenn and William discuss:
    ·        His experiences with the asphalt and paving business
    ·        His first MHP purchase in the 1990s
    ·        Negotiating and finding deals off the market
    ·        Passive income, active income, and the value of time
    ·        Financial decisions and choosing simplicity
    ·        Property management
    ·        RV Parks vs. Mobile Home Parks
    ·        The highs of MHP deals and ownership

From Flipping Homes to Mobile Home Park Tycoon

    Episode 18 with Andrew Keel
“Yeah, I mean, I really believe in not only the asset class as an investment but also in adding affordable housing to markets that need it. I've been there where like we've been able to bring in 40, 50 homes and fill them up with people that were like, “Hey, I was commuting an hour to get here to my mom's house every day to take care of her because there was nothing I could afford in town. You guys brought in these 40 homes and now I live right down the street from her. Like I'm super grateful.”

Join Glenn as he interviews Andrew Keel, the CEO of Keel Team Real Estate Investments, a “MHU Top 100” owner of manufactured housing communities. ·         Working with “mom and pop” MHP owners in the Midwest
    ·         The process of refinancing an MHP

    Episode 17 with Cody Berman
“Well, I guess the first thing,  the mental motivator was that I was looking at my boss, I was looking at my boss's boss, I was looking at my boss's boss, and I didn't want any of their lives.
