Series 2 Episode 10: More Emergency Scenarios, Farewell to Our Key Questions and Looking to The Future

This week Liam and Matt provide a summary for the series and discuss the key questions which will be leaving the show in future series. But, before they do, they were put out to the public so we share some of our favourite responses from our recent social media interactions!

After Matt received some great feedback in person, as well as all of the online feedback we had earlier in the series, we rolled out some new emergency trauma scenarios, discussing processes ABCDE, distracting injuries and rare medical emergencies, we just hope that the ATMMIF police don't come down harder on us at our next reaccreditations!

Finally we look to the future, with a break in the podcast coming over the next few months before we dig into some mini series, going into more depth on specific topics in the sports physiotherapy world!

As always, please rate, like and subscribe! Follow us on Social Media @Thrivepes on all platforms. Our Website is www.thrivepes.co.uk where you can also contact us and find the podcast!

Series 2 Episode 9: The Student Physio Episode with Bradley Carrigan, Connor Wright and Lewis Cowan from The Student Physio Podcast

Series 2 Episode 9: The Student Physio Episode with Bradley Carrigan, Connor Wright and Lewis Cowan from The Student Physio Podcast

This week we welcome our first student guests to the podcast as we approach the end of series 2! We wanted to quiz the guys on some of our usual key questions that we would usually pose to our qualified guests and see how things differ and what the perceptions of students currently embarking on their physio journey are!

The guys are all attending the 4 year integrated physiotherapy and sport and exercise medicine masters. We discuss how the course is better equipped in preparing students for careers in sport, what lessons other courses and the physio profession could learn from courses that take this shape and how having a university based clinic gives excellent exposure to practicing students!

If you want to hear more about the course or from Bradley, Connor and Lewis check our their podcast "The Student Physio Podcast" and their social media @uobphysiosoc for both Twitter and Instagram. As always we are @thrivepes and www.thrivepes.co.uk to check out info, blogs and the rest of the podcast, which can also be found wherever you usually get your pods!

Series 2 Episode 8: With Former GB Cyclist and Clinical Shoulder Specialist Ellie Richardson

This week we combine the usual physiotherapist or athlete guest role into one with Ellie Richardson who managed to balance a career as both athlete and physiotherapist. Ellie Cycled for Scotland at the commonwealth games as well as Team GB all whilst completing her physio undergrad and moving onto specialist postgraduate studies.

Ellie takes on our key questions, giving some of the best answers we've had so far, before moving onto discussions about shoulder second opinions, Ellies own injury history and her changing perceptions of physiotherapy as both student, athlete and graduate.

This is a unique insight to a rare career path in to specialist physiotherapy and one we think is extremely valuable to our listeners. In both managing athletes and being an advancing physiotherapist!

For more catch us on twitter and instagram @thrivepes, check our website www.thrivepes.co.uk and you can get hold of Ellie at @els_richardson on twitter!

Season 2 Episode 6: Putting Yourself Out There In The World of Dance, Theatre and Performance with Aisha James

On this weeks episode we dance into the world of performing arts, theatre and television with sports rehabilitator Aisha James. Aisha takes us on a path a little different from our usual sports to discuss dance injuries and management, the pressure of working back stage at some of the UK's biggest shows and how this environment varies from your typical clinic or sporting environment!

Aisha also talks a bit about her own research, whilst answering all our key questions and highlighting some really important research into injury occurrence and return to dance, which leads to discussion over factors like drug and alcohol use in athletes and how this can impact our roles. The research is: Novosel, B., Sekulic, D., Peric, M., Kondric, M., & Zaletel, P. (2019). Injury occurrence and return to dance in professional ballet: prospective analysis of specific correlates. International journal of environmental research and public health, 16(5), 765.

    And, Aisha's research is:

    Series 2 Episode 5: A New Year, Some Jam Doughnuts and a Listener Q & A

    Series 2 Episode 5: A New Year, Some Jam Doughnuts and a Listener Q & A

We are back from a prolonged xmas break in which the world seemed to go mental. We briefly reflect on what working in sport and the private setting during the height of the pandemic looks like before tucking into some listener questions and Jam doughnuts. The questions are good and testing, but the Jam Doughnuts are not, following a recent cameo of one representing a intervertebral disc on prime time national tele. We discuss the issues events like this pose the profession and how progressive physios can approach it. Do we agree to disagree, be cruel to be kind or sit on the fence!

Fear not, this is a short episode with just the two of us, where we announce some excellent upcoming guests, keep them eyes and ears peeled for more soon!
