How To Develop A Plan To “Age Successfully” For Yourself Or With Your Parents

This is a replay from Jan 2024

Lori La Bey talks with Star Bradbury who is a former Florida licensed administrator and Executive Director for both an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility, Star has a broad understanding of the variety of options and choices families face. Her 18 years working with a nationally recognized Life Care Community (Oak Hammock at the University of Florida) allows her to share her expertise in this otherwise confusing and complex senior living option as well.

Star’s insider experience is invaluable to anyone wanting to make sure they know how to choose the right community for a loved one, help their parents age in place successfully, or find more help when their parents need more care.  Her realistic approach is refreshing and her principles to aging well and making crucial decisions can be applied immediately. Most importantly, she will share with you the right questions to ask that are critical during times of need.

As the founder of Senior Living Strategies and the author of Successfully Navigating Your Parents’ Senior Years, she regularly collaborates and consults with individuals and families from all walks of life as well as professionals in the legal, medical, financial, and long-term care insurance world.

Her passion is to help families develop a comprehensive, proactive plan that will allow them to make the best most informed decisions--for their parents’ well-being and their own.  Having lost both sets of parents, in-laws, a sister, and many friends, she has the compassion and understanding as well as the professional experience to guide you.

What is the difference between the go-go years, the slow-go years, and the no-go years?

Would You Like To Be Part Of The Dementia Chats™ Video Panel?

Dementia Chats™ was created in 2012, with the intention to educate people living with dementia, and their care partners including family, friends, professionals, and advocates.

Dementia Chats™ positions our panelists to be the true experts.  They are those diagnosed with some form of dementia.  Our panelist vary from video to video depending on their personal schedules. New voices are always welcome to join us.

Lori La Bey, the founder of Alzheimer’s Speaks facilitates Dementia Chats.  She learned how essential it was to listen to those diagnosed. Her own mother lived 30 years with dementia. Lori found people living with dementia had great insights and creative ideas for care.  They show us how to be inclusive in new ways.

Being a spokesperson for themselves and others living with dementia positions them as advocates, and many say it gives them a new sense of purpose and pride which allows them to continue to live a dignified and purpose-filled life.

Too long!

I am already exhausted caring for person with brain disease so please shorten your podcasts into digestible bites with a clear title so I can more accurately search for what is a current need to address: taking person for eye exams when they can’t self report how clearly they can see; drooling, sloppy eating but won’t let you help them. Please more practical advice.

Disappointing

I was very interested in the episode about the difference between elder housing
