Episode #22 - Three is a Magic Number

Episode #22 - Three is a Magic Number

Hello and welcome to the "You Dont Look..." Podcast Episode #22 - three is a magic number. Listen to hear about the song that inspired this episode, why three really is a magic number and the commonalities and differences in the responses to the question (I asked five people):

"What are 3 good things that happened to you this week?"

I am in the process of trying to set up two different interviews and getting schedules to click is proving challenging.

The podcast content has pivoted since Covid-19 to focus more on how people that dont look or at their age achieve this by up-leveling, using their courage muscle.

This will be the last episode until Sept 2020--Im going on hiatus. I'd love to hear from you what content, guests you would like to see featured on this podcast come Fall 2020 and if you would like to be a guest lets have that conversation. Email me at info@koastalsupyoga.com. Please share the podcast, leave a review and subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Anchor, and wherever you get your podcasts. Until next time, Namaste

    Episode #21 - Covid -19 Still here...

    Episode #21 - Covid -19 Still here...

Hello and Welcome to the "You Don't Look" Podcast Episode #21. How are ya'll doing? So we are no longer in "lock down" because of Covid-19 but we have to wear masks everywhere because Covid-19 is still out there! Still cant get on a plane to see my family or vice versa and we had family matriarch pass away recently--so that was hard. Not being able to be with family to get closure and mourn. Hurricane season is officially here in FL. The number of cases is blowing up here in FL, State Parks will be close July 3 and 4 so celebrating the Home of the Free, Land of the Brave will definitely be different this year, especially without fire works. Happy Birthday America! While Covid-19 is definitely making the times in which we live unusual, the US has had public health crises before. Ever hear of Typhoid Mary? She was a real person--an asymptomatic carrier of tyhoid fever in 1906. She lived much of her life in quarantine. Check out the podcast Throughline There is Something About Mary –its amazing the ordeal this woman went through this alone!

Im still educating myself, listening and reflecting on how I can use my sphere of influence to help be part of systemic change in the Black Lives Matter movement. Im still supporting black owned businesses locally. If you are here in St. Augustine check out Martin K's place: https://growersalliance.com/.  You can order on-line and they also have e-gift certificates. Are yall glad zoom school is over? What are your summer child care plans? Got an idea for an upcoming episode or want to be part of one? Drop me a line on IG @koastalsupyoga.com or email me at info@koastalsupyoga.com. Please share this podcast, leave a review and until next week...Namaste.

Episode #20 - R Higgins-- Why & How he came to be a left handed artist

Episode #20 - R Higgins-- Why & How he came to be a left handed artist

Hello and Welcome to the "You Dont Look.." Podcast Episode #20. This week I have the honor of interviewing local artist R J Higgins. I first discovered him at the "Made In St. Augustine" arts festival held in the center of St. Augustine during my first summer as an official FL resident (2017). I was drawn to the way he transformed scraps of metal and wood—you know stuff that’s really stiff and rigid--into flowy soft-bodied sea creatures like Jelly fish. RJ also does amazing vibrantly colored and detailed painting(s) on pieces and scraps of drift wood of fish like Mahi Mahi (aka Dolphin). That day I bought one of each of these things and I still have them. There were so many other pieces he had that day that drew me in—like a sculpture of a puffer fish made from an old gas tank. I kept following him on Instagram and was and still am amazed at how his skill and talent as an artist have developed into higher and higher levels. These days his work involves mixed media which adds a depth and dimension that really bring the pieces to life. His skill with a saw to create the flowing narrow tentacles of an octopus makes you feel like you are seeing one up close and in person.

He does all of this left handed. He was not always left handed. Listen to hear why and how he became a left handed artist (taking up-leveling to literally a whole other level!), his creative process, why the ocean inspires him, and what his future plans are for his art. The best way to get in touch with him is via his website at https://www.artbyrjhiggins.com/ or on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/artbyrjhiggins/. He also has an Etsy shop that sells T-shirts with his art on it (I have one of those too!) check it out at RJ Etsy Shop

He also shares who he follows on Instagram and why. Check them out for yourself here: https://www.instagram.com/cruiseybabbby/, https://www.instagram.com/keylo_art/, and https://www.instagram.com/thewoodenwhaleco/

Please share this episode with a friend, subscribe & leave us a review. You can always email me at info@koastalsupyoga.com. If you are close enough to visit St. Augustine this summer let’s do a paddleboard yoga sesh! Until next week, Namaste.

    Episode #19 --Punting

    Episode #19 --Punting

HEllo and Welcome to the "You Dont Look" Podcast--Episode #20. This week I had the show notes all done, links added, and found out the zoom audio file of the interview I did with someone that I really wanted to have on the podcast was only one minute long! Argh! Lesson learned: always check the length of the Zoom audio file right after you record to be sure its the length you expect it to be! So I wanted to take this opportunity to ask "How are yall doing" "Are you done with Zoom school?" and even though more businesses are open and there is more freedom to shop and socialize I still wear a mask in public. I'm learning and listening how to be an accomplish to the Black Lives Matter movement.  Area businesses owned by black people that I have been supporting are Better Bodies Gym, Growers Alliance, the UPS Store (in the Publix Plaza on Rte 312). I've also checkd out Tough Guy Cookies located in JAX; they deliver locally and the couple I know that lives in JAX has actually been staying with older in-laws out of state, so I have to find other people I know that live in JAX so that I can send some of these yummy cookies their way. Good to see MA and NY governments are taking first steps toward police reform. Lots of other news thanks to SCOTUS and the Summer Solstice is this Sat 6/20/20. Join me for some paddleboarding if you are in the area.

Episode #18 - My Hypothyroidism Journey - Part II

Episode #18 - My Hypothyroidism Journey - Part II

Hello and Welcome to the "You Dont Look" Podcast Episode #18--this week I will be sharing Part II of my Hypothyroidism journey from the mid-part of the bell curve to “flat line”, which is essentially how I stay in the mid part of the bell curve of health and wellness.

Once my wholistic practitioner Dr. Rashmi Gulati put me on a dose (that was right for me) of Compound Thyroid we then developed a supplement regimen to help my body heal. That regimen included (and still does actually) digestive enzymes, probiotics, two types of magnesium to help with muscle relaxation and gut peristalsis, omega 3 oil, and an the amino acid L-theanine (which is one type of adaptogen).

I then dialed in my diet using the Auto-immune Protocol (AIP). Dr. Dr.Sarah Ballantyne is an excellent resource to learn more about this paleo based elimination diet strategy, which focuses on nutrient dense whole foods while cutting out processed foods, e.g., dairy and white sugar. AIP also focuses on stress management, sleep and staying active. Listen as I share my morning routine and how I survived cutting out coffee and chocolate during the elimination phase of AIP.

One secret: is a wicked tasty coffee alternative named “Teecino”;trust me on this one.

Another great resource for those of you on the journey to healing from hypothyroidism is like Marni Wasserman over at https://ultimatehealthpodcast.com/. Please share this podcast with friends, subscribe and leave a review. Feel free to email me at info@koastalsupyoga.com with any questions you may have about hypothyroidism; I’ll do my best to answer them. Until next week, Namaste.

Oh --in case you missed it, pop over to Episode #16 to listen to Part I of my Hypothyroidism journey from fatigue to getting to the bell curve.

Episode #17 - Just the Beginning--taking down the system around white supremacy starting with anti-racism

Episode #17 - Just the Beginning--taking down the system around white supremacy starting with anti-racism

Hello and Welcome to the You Don’t Look Podcast – Episode #17. I’d like to use this platform to talk about the take down of the system around white supremacy starting with anti-racism and supporting black entrepreneurs –business owners, coaches, artists on Instagram and in the real world.  The content for this episode has taken me over a week to get done as it has been difficult to find the words to aptly express how I feel and to reach out to those that I very much care about that are in the black community I cant know what you go through but I am here to stand with you and support you in any way that is in my realm of influence.

    Black White

    Human for all Time

The Covid-19 slogan “We are all in this together” still applies.

Im willing to listen, to learn by going within and begin having uncomfortable conversations.

I can do more by donating, calling the Minnesota Governor’s Office, the offices of my local officials, signing petitions and sharing petitions, reaching out my black friends and ask them “How are you doing?”, and demonstrating. Below are some of the resources I have used to be part of the change our world needs. It is just the beginning.

The Bail Project™ National Revolving Bail Fund is on a mission to combat mass incarceration and reshape the pretrial system in the United States. 100% of online donations are used to bring people home. Since bail money comes back to us when cases close, we're able to recycle every dollar donated at least twice per year. https://bailproject.org/

    George Floyd Memorial Fund

This fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and to assist George’s family in the days to come as they continue to seek justice for George.  A portion of these funds will also go to the Estate of George Floyd for the benefit and care of his children and their educational fund. https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd

    Justice for Breonna Taylor Fund

Shortly after midnight on March 13, Louisville police officers, executing a search warrant, used a battering ram to crash into the apartment of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American emergency room technician. Her boyfriend, fearing for their safety, shot at one of the officer’s legs. The officers then fired shots that struck Breonna 8 times. Today, June 5, is Taylor’s birthday. She would have been 27 years old. The community has been reaching out in support of Bree’s family and wanting to donate to the cause. You can do that using this link https://www.gofundme.com/f/9v4q2-justice-for-breonna-taylor

Please use and share the resources I’ve shared here. If Sharing on IG here are a few of the hashtags you can use #freedomshouldbefree,  #GeorgeFloyd and #JusticeoforBreonnaTaylor. Until next week, Namaste.

Relatable, interesting, and informative!

I love listening to this podcast! Kelly has authentic conversations with all of her guests, and she also shares really helpful and real tips for women as we age. She keeps it real, and I love how each episode is the perfect length that I can tune in when I have a free half hour! She’s honest and thoughtful, and has great tips for women!

Cheryl from NJ ,

Informative and inspiring!

Kelly is a great new voice bringing a mix of topics relevant to women in midlife who take care of themselves. Some episodes are very specific on health topics or business start/ups and others more generally on mindset and lifestyles. Enjoyable bite size nuggets of wisdom.
