Feeling Like a Fraud? Let's Talk Imposter Syndrome

Feeling Like a Fraud? Let's Talk Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome At It's Finest In this episode of Your Good Body Podcast, I'm sharing a personal story about a time when I experienced imposter syndrome. And spoiler alert: It just might have something to do with crying on the bathroom floor over a photo. Yikes.
Ok so there's more to the story than that. But I'm pulling back the curtain and letting you see that even the Body Image Champion herself (yours truly) had a massive moment of imposter syndrome that I wish I could forget.
Imposter Syndrome Is Actually... Good? The truth is that imposter syndrome can actually be a sign that we're on the right track for doing something that's meaningful and impactful. Something that we're good at! And for me, the very thing that I felt imposter syndrome about was the thing that I was the most impactful at helping others with - body image.
Here's the thing. Because I have my own body image struggle from time to time, it makes me really good at what I do. The very thing that has been the biggest thorn in my side, is what causes me to be more relatable and effective in my work of helping others. And by sharing my own struggles (like I'm doing today), I'm better able to connect with those who are going through similar challenges.
Bad Body Image Days: What To Do The other thing you'll find in this episode is what to do when bad body image days sneak up on you. Especially because body image is more about what's happening in the mind and heart than the physical body, and I'm offer some guidance on how to navigate those difficult days. Because if you're a human... it's likely going to happen to you one time or another.
If you've ever experienced imposter syndrome or struggled with negative body image, this episode is a must-listen. Join me as I share my personal story and offer insights and guidance to help you navigate these challenging experiences.

Trauma Healing 101: Metabolizing Emotions and Unlocking Your Mind-Body Connection

Trauma Healing 101: Metabolizing Emotions and Unlocking Your Mind-Body Connection

Ever feel lost in big emotions? Not sure how to process them, or completely numb toward them? What's a person to do with their emotions anyway?
In this episode we're unpacking all of these questions (and so many more) with author and licensed counselor Aundi Kolber. Her approach to developing a healthy relationship with your body and strength will have you feeling ready to handle your emotions and past trauma with care. Aundi shares about how she overcame an ambivalent relationship to her own strength, and how our experiences are a journey and a story that is imprinted in our body.
She explains that situational strength has value and, as we learn to listen to our bodies, our strength becomes rooted in love rather than fear. She discusses how our minds are connected to our bodies, and emotions are primarily sensations in our body. Once we name them and cognitively bring them into our awareness, those emotions become feelings. The goal is then to metabolize our emotions, move them through the body, and avoid them getting stuck or suppressed.
Aundi emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and normalizing the significance of trauma rather than putting a tiny bandaid on a cannonball-sized wound. It's mind-blowing. She encourages us to honor the complicatedness of our story and pace ourselves in the healing process, so we don't re-traumatize ourselves.
To heal our relationship with our body, we can start with neutrality, bringing in awareness in a non-judgmental posture, and then move towards tenderness and compassion. Aundi discusses how we can leverage goodness and love to support us in our healing and explains the three types of strength - situational, transitional, and integrative - and how we can move through each of them.
Finally, Aundi speaks to how we can parent our children well while we're also healing from our own trauma. She encourages us to turn towards pain with compassion and to work on repairing fractures as we notice them, focusing on the tiny moments that matter.
Tune in to Your Good Body Podcast to learn more about developing a healthy relationship with your body and tap into the type of strength that will help you navigate through the wide range of experiences that life brings.

Embodied Faith: Finding Total Body Freedom

Embodied Faith: Finding Total Body Freedom

In this episode, we explore what it means to live out our faith in an embodied way, and how we can find freedom in our physical bodies. Our guest, Alisa Keeton, founder of Revelation Wellness, shares her insights and strategies for cultivating a healthy and positive relationship with our bodies.
11:00 - Jesus lived in a body just like we do. How can we begin to see our faith walk as an embodied experience? Our bodies are a gift from God and an integral part of our spiritual journey. By viewing our faith walk as an embodied experience, we can begin to embrace our bodies and develop a more positive relationship with ourselves.
17:00 - The intersections of being "whole" and "holy" in Spirit, Soul, and Body. Being whole and holy involves nurturing our spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. When we prioritize bringing all three aspects of ourselves to the Lord, we can experience greater wholeness and connection with God.
21:00 - God has hardwired you physically for a goodness that matches what you feel in your soul as goodness. Our physical bodies are not separate from our spiritual selves. In fact, God has designed us to experience goodness and wholeness in both our physical and spiritual selves.
28:00 - What can we do to shake the negative feelings that are manifesting in our emotions and our physical body? Negative thoughts and emotions can impact our physical well-being. To shake these feelings, we can practice self-care, exercise, and meditation on the Word, and intentionally focus on gratitude.
33:00 - What can we do in the tension between what is and what we hope will be? The season where we want to be fully free, but we're not there yet. Finding freedom in our bodies is a journey, and it's okay to be in the tension between where we are now and where we hope to be. By embracing the process and practicing self-compassion, we can move towards greater freedom and wholeness.
39:00 - What does total body freedom actually mean? Alisa paints a picture so we can get a vision for where we're headed. Total body freedom means embracing our bodies as they are, without shame or judgment. It means practicing self-care, self-compassion, and gratitude, and intentionally cultivating a positive relationship with ourselves.
44:00 - What can we do today, from a freedom posture, to steward our body well so we can feel physically well. We can practice small habits and actions every day that prioritize our physical well-being, such as drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, and eating nourishing foods. By stewarding our bodies well, we can experience greater physical and emotional health.
48:00 - Embodying your faith walk through Revelation Wellness Videos! Download the free app! Alisa shares how Revelation Wellness offers resources and tools for integrating faith and fitness. The app provides access to a wide range of workouts and meditations that help us connect with our bodies and with God.

PCOS, Hormones, and Periods... OH MY!

PCOS, Hormones, and Periods... OH MY!

Today is a great day to learn about your hormones! Today we're joined by our new friend Isabel Garza, who's spilling all the details about periods, hormones, and PCOS!
If your head kind of starts spinning when you try to think about hormones, you're in the right place. We're breaking things down into understandable terms so you can use your monthly cycle to give you all kinds of information for what your body is asking of you.
We're also unpacking some of the most common (and confusing) aspects of Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome (aka PCOS). Whether you have it, don't, or just aren't sure, this is your first stop in figuring things out. I've had several doctors throw this diagnosis around with me, so I was VERY confused. Do I have it? Do I not? Does it matter? Thankfully I was able to ask Isabel about this, and she explained that there are three big indicators for PCOS. In order to know whether you actually do have PCOS, you need to be exhibiting at least two of the three indicators.
And there was another thing I was wondering about. EXERCISE! Why can I sometimes absolutely crush a tough workout but other times that same tough workout crushes ME?! Well, it's actually pretty simple. Our hormones are changing all throughout the month, and if we pay attention to our monthly cycle, we can actually determine the best type of exercise for any every week of our cycle!
To make this even more simple, I made a free .pdf with a visual! Download Your Cycle Code and use it as a guide for planning your workouts in a way that feels good to your body.

WELCOME BACK! It's my birthday and I have new thoughts on wellness.

WELCOME BACK! It's my birthday and I have new thoughts on wellness.

We're baaacckkk! And today's my birthday so I'm FIRED UP and ready to share my latest thoughts on wellness with you! But can I first say... this season of the podcast is going to be incredible. We have the most amazing guests along with solo episodes where I'm answering your biggest questions about body image, intuitive eating, food freedom, wellness, movement, faith, and so much more!
Have you ever stopped to think about what our bodies were actually designed for? Because the truth is that they were not designed for vanity. They were not designed to gain applause, or approval, or validation. They were not designed to be a never ending work-in-progress. They were not designed to turn heads.
Our bodies were designed for FUNCTIONALITY. They were designed to hold us all toghether and move us through life everyday. And they do a pretty amazing job at it. The complexities of our bodies are mind-blowing and kind of incomprehensible, honestly. But that's what makes them so incredible!
But knowing just how hard my body works to keep me alive everyday, I can begin to make decisions that will support my body in all of that hard work. Do I know exactly how to do that? Definitely not. But when I'm focused on helping my body to function well, I can learn new ways of doing that so that I can truly feel my best.
Because feeling my best is a high priority in my life right now. And it's amazing because if I hadn't spent the last couple of years getting rid of the rigidity of a dieting mentality and rebuilding trust with my body, then this part of my journey might look very different.
All I know is that constantly eating less and moving more and hoping to move the need on the scale down further and further, wasn't doing me any favors in terms of how I was actually feeling every day. And that's not to say that weight loss is wrong or bad. I'm not against weight loss. What I'm against is placing weight loss at the front and center of all of our wellness decisions and allowing it to lead the way in our health journey.
When we place weight-loss at the front and center, we limit ourselves from experiencing all the incredible health benefits that come with nourishing our body, soul, and spirit, by learning exactly what our own, specific, individual selves need. When, with some tools and some guidance, we become the expert of our own bodies, and are making decisions out of self-compassion rather than self-loathing, the possibilities are endless.
So for me, I want to be in a place where I'm focusing on wellness from a place of functionality. I want to support my body, and work with my body. Not against her. So that's the root of my health decisions as of lately.

Extreme Motivation

The podcast was in my suggestions and I have confirmed it is a little bit of everything I’ve been looking for in my journey to wellness. I have been experiencing a shift from diet culture and leaning toward functional fitness and wellness. This podcast has filled in many of the spaces and mindsets I’ve been led to replace, in order to live whole….

Not enough good words!

Jennifer Taylor Wagner has helped change SO much for me and the way that I view my body.
I found this podcast right before Summer.. right before she took a break! Which I was SO sad to hear Lol But it gave me plenty of time to get caught up on the episodes she already had posted!

Her words, her encouragement have helped me SO much. The intro is a constant reminder that no matter how small I get.. that goal post will keep moving! I need to be happy and healthy in the current body that I am in!

It’s a reminder that I’m ALLOWED to eat food, food that I WANT to eat! And no matter my size, my body is a GOOD body!

Thank you Jennifer, don’t stop doing what you’re doing! 🤍
