Most people associate a running-based fitness program with long distance running, where individuals are preparing for a marathon or a 10km race. While many people use long distance running as a primary means of exercise, others just can’t find pleasure or success with long runs and the fatigue associated with such an undertaking. Sprinting is a great alternative for people who want to incorporating running into their fitness program, without having to deal with the grind of the long run. And, sprinting offers other benefits including total body strength development, lean muscle gain and a general feeling of athleticism. Even though most people haven’t sprinted since grade school, it is a credible fitness strategy to build overall health, fitness and resiliency.

    In Episode 131, we turn once again to our resident expert in technology and human performance, Brandon Marcello, to figure out where we are with wearable technology. We are seeing more wearables being promoted every year with the promise of making our lives more glorious, by providing us with invaluable data about our health, wellness and performance. Famous athletes are promoting these tech products as one of keys to their success and giving us wearable-envy. But how many of these devices actually provide accurate and reliable data? Are we approaching medical grade device territory, or are we simply gamifying our health? Brandon breaks down the conventional wisdom on wearable technology for us to make sense of what to buy and what to expect in the future.

    Brandon Marcello is a high-performance strategists that offers consulting services to some of the top organizations in the world that rely on the optimization of human performance capabilities. Originally from Sarasota, FL, Marcello has worked in the professional, Olympic and top collegiate settings. He has also served as a consultant to various organizations and media groups. For the last 22 years, Dr. Marcello has taken individuals and organizations to the next level through multi-year and time-limited human performance consulting projects in the United States and abroad. His work in conjunction with Draper Laboratories for the U.S. Special Forces has provided a deep, multivariate understanding of the drivers of performance in the battlefield, while projects for professional teams and elite athletes includes performance solutions for nutrition, training, recovery, and high-performance team development. Prior to this, Marcello served as the Director of Sports Performance at Stanford University. Brandon was also heavily involved with the development of EXOS, a world-class training facility for professional and elite athletes, as well as the International Performance Institute (IPI) of the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida. Marcello holds a PhD in sports nutrition from Baylor University, and a MS and BS in Exercise Science from Marshall University.

    In Episode 129, we sit down with Don’s long-time training partner, Anthony Jacobs, who we affectionally refer to as “Tone”. We also talk about Tone’s long-term film project that essentially tells the story of his life. The film is called “Respect the Jux” and premiered this month and numerous streaming networks.

"Respect the Jux" is the age old struggle between the good, the bad, betrayal, love, and success. By any means. Heralded as one of the most prolific of its genre, and based on true events, "Respect the Jux" tells the story of Cat, a young Jamaican man with a corrupt past, who ventures to the United States on a quest to obtain the American dream, the "right" way - only to find it doesn't exist. Attempt after failed attempt, Cat finds himself in despair, and without many options, returns to his old ways.
