  1. How to Sit With Difficult Feelings - Guided Meditation with Zen Master Henry Shukman #637

How to Sit With Difficult Feelings - Guided Meditation with Zen Master Henry Shukman #637

All through March, our community has been building a simple daily meditation habit — and if you haven’t started yet, there’s still plenty of time to join us. Here’s a beautiful meditation from Henry, just for the Feel Better, Live More community. It’s amazing how taking a few moments of stillness, where we put down the to-do list and just drop into being, can really shift how we feel. Meditation is an incredibly powerful tool for transforming our lives. But like any positive habit, it can be a hard thing to start and maintain. That’s why I love challenges — short, intensive commitments that help us to really kickstart a new habit or reinforce one we love.  Throughout March, here at Feel Better, Live More, I’ve teamed up with Zen master Henry Shukman and his meditation app The Way, to bring you our first-ever Meditation Challenge, to help turbocharge your meditation practice. After meeting Henry last year, I've become a huge fan of his meditation app, The Way. I use it myself most days and really believe in what they're doing - so much that I've personally invested in the company. It doesn’t matter when you start, committing to 30 days of meditation has the power to not only improve your life, but the life of those around you too. Visit thewayapp.com/livemore to sign up, access 30 free meditation sessions and join the movement.   Show notes https://drchatterjee.com/637   DISCLAIMER: The content in the podcast and on this webpage is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. BITESIZE | The Childhood Patterns That Secretly Shape Your Adult Life | Alain de Botton #636

Many of the habits and reactions that shape our adult lives began as clever coping strategies in childhood. While they once helped us survive difficult situations, they can later limit our relationships and happiness. By becoming aware of these patterns, we can start to change them. Feel Better Live More Bitesize is my weekly podcast for your mind, body, and heart. Each week I’ll be featuring inspirational stories and practical tips from some of my former guests. Today’s clip is from episode 495 of the podcast with author, internationally renowned philosopher, and founder of The School of Life, the wonderful Alain de Botton. Alain is known for his unique ability to apply philosophical concepts to everyday life. In this clip, he explains how our childhood can impact our adult relationships and behaviours and he shares some practical tools that can help us better understand ourselves and each other. How to Handle Life When It Falls Apart: Rewire Your Beliefs, Calm Your Mind, Stop Ruminating & Move Forward With Confidence: Dr Maya Shankar #635

Most of us are quite comfortable with change when we’ve chosen it: a new job, new home or new relationship.  It’s the unwanted, unexpected changes that tend to floor us - like an illness, loss or breakup - that leave us wondering who we are and how on earth we’re meant to go on. In today’s episode, I’m joined by Dr Maya Shankar, cognitive scientist and author ofThe Other Side of Change. Maya has spent years studying how our minds respond to change, and she’s also gone through some profound changes of her own – from a hand injury that shattered her hopes of becoming a concert violinist, to a long, painful journey with fertility. We talk about so many different topics related to the theme of change, including why our brains find uncertainty so stressful, how unwanted change can reveal hidden beliefs that we hold and why witnessing other people’s courage or kindness can quietly change what we believe is possible for ourselves. We also explore a variety of evidence-based practical tools to help us deal with things like rumination and negative thought spirals. Throughout the conversation, Maya unpacks some inspiring stories of people facing extreme adversity - things like illness, betrayal, loss and even imprisonment – who were still able to find meaning, new identities and unexpected gifts on the other side. Yes, change is something that many humans struggle with, but as you are about to learn, with the right approach, it can be one of the very best tools to help us transform, grow and evolve. How To Take A Pause On Busy Days – Guided Meditation With Zen Master Henry Shukman #634

In this special episode of my Feel Better, Live More podcast - the second in the series - I’m inviting you to join me for something that has truly transformed my own life. I am a big believer in the transformative power of meditation. I also know how hard it can be to start and stick to a daily practice in our busy, modern world. Together, Zen Master, Henry Shukman and I designed Meditation March with The Way app to give you some motivation to finally start your daily practice – or perhaps deepen one you already have. We wanted to create a community of likeminded people, coming together to shake off their busy lives and find stillness for a few minutes each day. And so far, it’s really working! Henry has recorded this short meditation for you to try now. Today’s simple lesson is that meditation isn’t another thing you have to do. Rather it's the one time you get to put down all the tools and just ‘be’. If you like what you hear, why not join me on our 30-day challenge, for free. All you need to do is visit: https://www.thewayapp.com/livemore, download the app and join the rest of us, who are already meditating our way through March.   Show notes https://drchatterjee.com/634   DISCLAIMER: The content in the podcast and on this webpage is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. BITESIZE | The Small Daily Habits That Reduce Stress, Fix Your Focus and Build Resilience | Dr Tara Swart #633

We are living in the middle of a stress epidemic – the World Health Organization calls stress ‘the health epidemic of the twenty-first century’. Chronic stress can have a huge impact on physical and emotional health. In fact, 80-90% of what a doctor sees on any given day is somehow related to stress. But what can we do about it? Feel Better Live More Bitesize is my weekly podcast for your mind, body, and heart. Each week I’ll be featuring inspirational stories and practical tips from some of my former guests. Today’s clip is from episode 416 of the podcast with Dr Tara Swart – neuroscientist, former medical doctor & psychiatrist, lecturer at MIT, executive coach, and author of the best-selling book ‘The Source’. Many of us don’t realise the profound impact that chronic unmanaged stress can have on our physical health, even if we’re eating well and getting plenty of movement each day. In this clip, Tara shares some of the most effective ways to manage stress, and some of the simple practices she implements herself. 6. How To Feel Calmer, Less Stressed & More Present with Henry Shukman #632

How To Feel Calmer, Less Stressed & More Present with Henry Shukman #632

In a world of constant noise, stimulation and busyness, meditation is often framed as another self-improvement tool – something to calm us down, make us more productive or fix what feels broken. But this week’s returning guest believes that this way of thinking completely misses the point. Henry Shukman is an authorised Zen Master and Director of the Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Over the years, Henry has taught meditation at organisations including Google, Harvard Business School and the Esalen Institute, and is the co-founder of ‘The Way’ meditation app. Henry and I had the most beautiful conversation when he first appeared on my podcast on Episode 590 and his app ‘The Way’ has had such a profound impact on me, that I wanted to have a second conversation with him to explore deeper the benefits and misconceptions about meditation and the powerful role it can play in our busy, 21st century lives. I have also partnered with The Way for a free March meditation challenges - you can see all details at thewayapp.com/livemore Henry sees meditation not as a technique for becoming a better version of ourselves, but as a way of reconnecting with something far more fundamental. Beneath all the striving, planning and doing, he says, there is already a deep sense of aliveness and meaning. Meditation simply helps us notice it again. In our conversation, we explore:  Why having a busy, restless mind does not mean you’re “bad” at meditation – and why that restlessness is actually the very reason the practice exists How modern life keeps our attention relentlessly outward, and why daily stillness can help us reconnect with our inner world Why meditation works best when it’s not treated as another task on the to-do list, but as a place of rest from constant doing Why five minutes a day is often more powerful than occasional long meditation sessions How meditation can subtly change our experience of time, helping life feel richer and fuller Simple, practical guidance on when to meditate, how often - and why comfort matters far more than posture or “doing it right” What stayed with me most from this conversation is Henry’s reminder of how rarely we’re encouraged to turn inward. In a world that constantly pulls our attention outside ourselves, meditation becomes a way of rebuilding that inner relationship – one that many of us didn’t realise we’d lost.  Just a few minutes, practised regularly, can change how we relate to our thoughts, our time and our lives.   Support the podcast and enjoy Ad-Free episodes. Finding Calm in the Chaos - Guided Meditation With Zen Master Henry Shukman #631

I am a big believer in the transformative power of meditation. I also know how hard it can be to start and stick to a daily practice in our busy, modern world. In this special episode of my Feel Better, Live More podcast, I’m inviting you to join me for something that has truly transformed my own life. I’ve teamed up with Zen master Henry Shukman and his meditation app The Way for a 30-day meditation challenge this March to help inspire more of us to build a consistent meditation practice. I’ve tried many meditation apps over the years, but I’ve never found one as effective as The Way. I’ve been using it most mornings for months now, and it has genuinely helped me feel calmer, more relaxed and more present. I love it so much that I recently invested in the company because I truly believe that if more of us meditated regularly, we’d create a calmer, happier and more compassionate world. There’s now a wealth of research showing that meditation can reduce stress, improve focus and even lead to positive structural changes in the brain over time. But we only experience those benefits if we actually practise. In this episode, Henry shares a beautiful guided body scan meditation, reminding us that meditation isn’t another task on the to-do list, but a return to ourselves. Just a few minutes each day can make a profound difference. So, if you are ready to join Henry and me on this 30-day challenge, for free, all you need to do is visit: thewayapp.com/livemore.  Download the app and join a group of likeminded people, meditating our way through March.   Show notes https://drchatterjee.com/631   DISCLAIMER: The content in the podcast and on this webpage is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Why has nutrition – something that should be so simple – become so complicated? Feel Better Live More Bitesize is my weekly podcast for your mind, body, and heart. Each week I’ll be featuring inspirational stories and practical tips from some of my former guests. Today’s clip is from episode 520 of the podcast with medical doctor and nutritionist, my good friend Dr Rupy Aujla.
