Becoming Multilingual: Techniques for Language Learning with Jim Kwik

Becoming Multilingual: Techniques for Language Learning with Jim Kwik

What are the cognitive benefits of being multilingual?

Language surrounds you nearly every waking moment of your life. From your first words to your last, language helps you communicate your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to connect with others. And for many people, this rich linguistic environment involves not just one language, but two or more.

Today, I’m going to explore the profound cognitive benefits of language. Specifically, how knowing more than one language can have a big impact on key brain functions like concentration, memory, task-switching, and creativity. It can even help slow cognitive decline.

Beyond the brain benefits, research shows that the majority of the world’s population is multilingual. That means the more languages you can speak, the deeper the connections you can forge with those around you. If you’re looking for practical tips, techniques, and resources to help you pick up new languages faster and more effectively, this episode is for you.

The Advantages of a Socially Awkward Brain with Ty Tashiro

The Advantages of a Socially Awkward Brain with Ty Tashiro

Can the traits that make you feel socially awkward actually be the key to unlocking extraordinary success?

We’ve all experienced a time when we felt like an outsider looking in. But for some, this isn’t a rare occurrence, but a constant struggle. In fact, research shows 10 – 15% of the population is socially awkward. But there is a strong correlation between social awkwardness and giftedness. You just have to learn how to use it to your advantage.

I’m excited to welcome Ty Tashiro to the show today. Ty is a psychologist and interpersonal relationship expert. He’s spent decades researching human intelligence, neuroscience, personality, and sociology to help us better understand this widely shared trait. He’s also the author of Awkward: The Science of Why We’re Socially Awkward and Why That’s Awesome.
There are few things more psychologically devastating than social exclusion. But being awkward can be like speaking a second language. By taking the same focus and persistence that you naturally give to things you love and applying it to your social life, you can figure out how to fit in without losing yourself. Listen in as Ty shares how you can turn your unique quirks into your greatest superpower and never grapple over an awkward social interaction again.

How to Protect Your Brain from Air Pollution with Peter Spiegel

Is the air you breathe affecting your brain?

If you’re familiar with the ten keys to a healthy brain, you know that one of the keys is clean environment. Part of that environment is the quality of the air you breathe. You can go weeks without eating, days without water, but you can only go minutes without breathing. Clean air is essential to not just your overall health, but your quality of life.

I’m excited to welcome Peter Spiegel to the show today. Peter is the founder and CEO of Ideal Living, a wellness company democratizing quality. His life’s purpose has been to enhance the lives of others and help them thrive. By sharing science-backed products, he seeks to ensure everyone has access to clean air and pure water.

Things like perfume, candles, and mold can harm your overall quality of life as the most dangerous particles to the human brain are very, very small. If you want to learn how to manage indoor air quality for your overall well-being, this episode is for you.

Why We Forget & How to Train Your Brain to Remember with Dr. Charan Ranganath

Why We Forget & How to Train Your Brain to Remember with Dr. Charan Ranganath

Why do you remember some things and forget others?

When it comes to memory, your brain is programmed to forget. That’s why it’s not only important to train your memory, but understand the complex mechanism of how your brain actually records and retrieves the past. Your memories make you who you are and because of the way your brain transforms memories, you can use them to understand the present and imagine the future.

I’m excited to go on a deep dive into this topic with our guest today, Dr. Charan Ranganath. Dr. Ranganath is a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, and Director of the Dynamic Memory Lab at UC Davis. For over 25 years, he’s studied the mechanisms in the brain that allows you to remember past events. He’s here to talk about his brand-new book, Why We Remember: Unlocking Memory’s Power to Hold on to What Matters.

There is extraordinary overlap in the brain between the systems that operate your memory and your imagination. You can use this overlap to make better choices that can lead to better memories, and that in turn, can open new opportunities in your life. Listen in as Dr. Ranganath goes into how the brain records and retrieves the past, and what you can do to make your memory stronger.

Blueswsky ,

Jim Kwik is a gift!

Just discovered this podcast and I am blown away! What a treasure trove of information that can truly enrich my life! Thank you and keep going!

Iwillc ,

Best for Seniors

I’m a 65 year old man with a history of “severe opiate addiction”. That diagnosis ended at Betty Ford in Dec of 2019 after a 17 year struggle with opiates. I’m also an entrepreneur who has , even in the midst of the addiction, launched a few business ideas and businesses that have had relative success. The last 3 years I retired from a 35 year airline career and moved in with an old friend who has dementia and osteoarthritis. Because I committed myself I had to shutter those ideas and businesses because caretaking in my capacity is 24/7.
My point is as I struggle with the unrealized fear that I’m running out of time to accomplish the tasks I feel I am alive to accomplish, this podcast has much of the info on I need for my personal and professional growth condensed and presented in the most efficient way for me to hear what I need to know. One podcast and I am a huge fan! Thank you Jim Kwik ! 🙏🏻

Not recommend. ,

Great podcast! No ads! Only brilliant ideas to get better in life

This is a truly podcast that is willing to share knowledge and help people. There’s no ads which is amazing! I think this is why people start doing podcast, but nowadays most of them start doing long hour of ads which it is so annoying!!
When I start listening to Jim I can feel how nice he is and how much he wants to help people! That’s why he deserve 5 stars for doing it!
