Ultra Processed Fridays and Southern Food; a dad and daughter chat

Jessica talks ultra processed foods with her dad. GLP-1s, Diabetes and How Whiteness Works

GLP-1s, Diabetes and How Whiteness Works

Jessica talks to UK doctor Dr. Asher Larmie about his perspectives on Ozempic and weight loss, diabetes, whether prediabetes is a thing and how we should (and shouldn't) measure blood sugar. The two discuss the differences in the US and UK guidance for diabetes and prediabetes.

Then, at Asher's invitation, Jessica asks him about his white saviorism and privilege, especially how it presents itself online. That stretch of the conversation gets a full analysis in the outro and Jessica speaks about how hard it is to critique whiteness in a way that seems less likely to receive backlash. It's all just hard.

This podcast is EVERYTHING

If you've ever wondered what it would be like if The Office had a baby with a deeply introspective yet delightfully awkward dietitian, this podcast is your answer. Jessica doesn't just tiptoe around tough topics—she dives in headfirst with grace and depth. It's thought-provoking, it's fun, and it's the kind of podcast that makes you laugh, cringe, and nod all at the same time.

Awkward review but highly recommend

I am not a nutritionist or in any related field and this show is the one I am most excited about each week. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to sit with the awkwardness, to hear people talk openly about the awkwardness, confront my own.

Conversations with your dad are such a delight. I hear your love and fondness for each other, your teasing comfort. There is something healing for me in hearing that.

It is hard for me to pick out one or two things that make this show great. Because it is different things at different times. But it is a highly recommend for me!

Excellent and Complex

If you are comfortable with awkwardness, or want to be more comfortable with awkwardness, this is the podcast for you.
