    💭’’There are three things we want to get in place first in terms of training: consistency, good recovery (including sleep), and sufficient fueling.’’ - Tom Goom Our guest, Tom Goom is a physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience and a very keen runner! He graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in 2002 and since then has worked in clinics in the UK and overseas. His career started in Winchester where he worked in the NHS and developed a specific interest in lower limb rehab and joined the physio team at a semi-professional football club. Following the Tsunami in 2004 Tom travelled to Sri Lanka and did voluntary physiotherapy work in a hospital, teaching local staff, treating patients and fundraising for new equipment. Tom returned to the UK in 2006 and started working in Brighton as a senior physiotherapist. His interest in rehab continued to grow and he ran lower limb and spinal rehab groups as well a chronic pain programme. Tom started RunningPhysio in March 2012 to help those training for marathons that spring, since then it’s developed into a resource used by runners and clinicians all over the world. Tom has written for Running Fitness, Men’s Running UK, and the British Journal of Sports Medicine blog. His research in proximal hamstring tendinopathy has been published in the prestigious Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy.     💭” We don't typically get athletes back quicker by introducing eccentric loading earlier, but we do make them stronger and possibly improve their capacity to withstand damage’’ - Dr. Ryan Timmins Our guest, Dr. Ryan Timmins PT, Ph.D is an Associate Professor at the Australian Catholic University (Brisbane). Originally from Brisbane, Dr. Ryan undertook his PhD in Melbourne and lived there for 10 years before returning home to Queensland. Prior to moving to Melbourne, Ryan held various roles with the Queensland Academy of Sport Mens Football Program, Brisbane Strikers and Brisbane Roar. While in Melbourne he had roles with Melbourne Victory and Western United. During his 12 years in elite sport, Ryan has been mainly working on athlete injury prevention and rehabilitation as well as facets of strength and conditioning. Ryan completed his PhD at the Australian Catholic University in 2016, focusing on factors which are associated with an increased likelihood of injury and potential interventions to mitigate these risks. He is also a Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association. Ryan continues to undertake research within injury prevention and rehabilitation, with a focus now being on programs which can be implemented in elite sporting environments. 📚You will learn about: The causes and mechanisms of hamstring strain injuries, and the role of clinical assessments. She has been a physical therapist and athletic trainer for 34 years, worked full-time in sports medicine for 10+ years including semiprofessional sport, performed sports medicine related research for 20+ years, and is actively engaged as a consultant for professional sports organizations both in the United States and abroad. Her expertise is in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal injury with a focus on tendon and ligament injury. At University of Delaware, she is the principal investigator of the Delaware Tendon Research Group and the Delaware ACL Research Group.     💭’’There is strong evidence that diet can have a significant effect on inflammation, and we know that inflammation is a key factor in disease.’’ -  Dr. Peter Brukner Our guest, Dr. Peter Brukner OAM, MBBS, D Sc(honoris causa), FACSEP, FASMF, FACSM, FFSEM is a specialist sports and exercise physician who is the founding partner of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and a Professor of Sports Medicine at LaTrobe University. A founding Executive Member of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians, he served two terms as President and played a key role in establishing sports medicine as a medical specialty in Australia.  Peter is the co-author of the widely used text book Clinical Sports Medicine, now in its 6th edition, and has been team physician for professional football clubs as well as national athletics, swimming, soccer and men’s hockey teams including Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Peter was the Socceroos Team Doctor at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and subsequently became Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science at Liverpool Football Club. He then served as Australian cricket team doctor from 2012-17, and as a consultant to the Melbourne Football Club during their premiership year in 2021.  Peter is the co-founder of the public health campaign SugarByHalf and is committed to the challenge of improving the nation’s health with improved diet and increased physical activity. His best selling book A Fat Lot of Good was published in 2018. Peter is also the Founder and Chair of Defeat Diabetes, an app- and web-based program, aimed at improving diabetes control through diet. In 2022, Peter was awarded a Doctor of Science honoris causa by La Trobe University and delivered the inaugural Peter Brukner Distinguished Lecture.
