Episode 193: Your Inner Game Creates Your Outer Results w/Dre Baldwin

In this week's Mind Remapping episode, I am joined by Dre Baldwin to uncover strategies to cultivate a winning mindset, develop unwavering confidence, and build the mental toughness needed to thrive in any endeavor. Join us as we discover how to train our minds for success, develop a daily routine that builds discipline and resilience, and use affirmations to change limiting beliefs.

    Key Takeaways:

The Influence of Thoughts on Water - As humans, composed of approximately 90% water, our thoughts can significantly impact our being and the outcomes we produce.

Four Pillars of the Work on Your Game Mindset - Discipline, confidence, mental toughness, and personal Initiative are the principles that guide individuals toward achieving their highest potential to succeed in their personal and professional endeavors.

Translating Sports Skills to Business Success - When moving from sports to business, you need to understand how to present your skills in a way that makes sense to others, essentially codifying your expertise for a new audience.

Who are the High Performers? - High performers are driven, ambitious, and open to improvement. They're the people who set ambitious goals and work hard to achieve them.

The Role of Coaching - Coaches do more than just provide answers; they provide insights by helping people ask the right questions and empower people by addressing the root causes of their problems.

    Helpful Resource:

Reframing Failures- Humans have a very fragile relationship with failure but we can always choose to redefine our relationship with it and be able to be mentally resilient.

    Notable Highlights:

"Since we are 90% water, the way we think impacts our being and the way we end up producing results."

"Sometimes to fill that gap between what you see, what you hear, and what you know, what you should do is that accountability piece."

Episode 192: A Rebirth: Sheree Carara's Journey with MS

Episode 192: A Rebirth: Sheree Carara's Journey with MS

In this week's Mind Remapping episode, I am joined by Sheree Carara to share the importance of recognizing emotional disconnect, surrendering to the process of healing, and the transformative potential of rebirth therapy. Throughout our conversation, Sheree and I recognized that true healing often begins with a willingness to confront and embrace all aspects of the self. Join us in this illuminating episode as we journey together toward greater emotional awareness, acceptance, and wholeness.

    Key Takeaways:

Recognizing Emotional Disconnect - When we feel distant from our feelings and inner experiences, being honest with ourselves about our situation is the first step to reconnecting with our emotions.
Helping People to Heal - The healing you acquire should not only cultivate a thankful heart within yourself but also extend that gratitude outward and be a source of healing and support for those around you.
The Courage to Surrender - Surrendering frees us from the burden of trying to control everything and allows us to trust our inner resources to handle any challenges amidst uncertainty.
Being a Master of Your Emotions - When you're the master of your emotions, you can maintain inner peace even in the face of chaos and approach challenges with a clear mind and an open heart.

    Helpful Resource:

Rebirth therapy focuses on helping individuals detoxify their emotions and release past traumas, allowing them to experience personal transformation and healing.

    Notable Highlights:

“In our society today, in general, everybody is so disconnected from emotion, disconnected from our bodies and experiencing our bodies and we're disconnected from each other.”

“When I finally surrendered and just let go of needing to know this has to be fixed, I was able to get the clarity, strength, and courage to get the divorce.”

“What we know is, that trauma lives in the mind, but trauma lives in the body, and the emotions are in the body.”

Episode 191: Rediscovering your Purpose w/ Dr. Cassandra Dunbar

Episode 191: Rediscovering your Purpose w/ Dr. Cassandra Dunbar

In this week's Mind Remapping episode, I am joined by Dr. Cassandre Dunbar to share with you the importance of rediscovering your purpose and how we can bridge the gap from health to wellness. Dr. Dunbar emphasizes that wellness is a journey of constant rediscovery and that our purpose is innately within us. Buckle up and learn with us as we explore how to find and nurture your purpose, and understand the role of acceptance and flexibility in personal growth.

    Key Takeaways:

To Thrive and Not Just Survive - Life is not just about getting through each day but about thriving in all aspects—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

How To Get Still - In a world that often values productivity and constant activity, getting still can be a powerful tool for finding balance, peace, and purpose in our lives.

Going Back To Your Childhood - The practice of reflecting on what you enjoyed and were good at as a child can help guide you in rediscovering your purpose in life.

The Beauty of Flexibility - Just like kids who can easily switch from one activity to another, we should be flexible in life. If one plan doesn't work, we can try another without feeling stuck.

    Helpful Resource:

When we accept our current situation, it doesn't mean we're satisfied with it. It just means we acknowledge it and can work with it to move forward.

    Notable Highlights:

“Life is a discovery and a constant rediscovery too.”

"People with less external resources can still end up thriving."

"The resources and the tools to thrive are not always outside you. It's coming to remember and unlock the resources and the tools inside of you."

"The hustle and bustle of our lives make us silence our inner voice, inner wisdom, inner intuition, and it makes us seek outside for these tools which are inside."

"As we think about changing the world, like we can start within our families, home, and workplace and create ripple effects."

"We need to allow our purpose to evolve."

    About Dr. Cassandre Dunbar

Dr. Cassandre Dunbar wears many hats. She is a mother of two young boys, a medical doctor, a wife, an educator, a wellness writer, and the host of the Be Well, Sis Podcast. Dr. Dunbar is deeply dedicated to promoting wellness and self-care among Black millennial women. Her journey began after completing medical school, where she realized a significant disparity between her education and the true essence of wellness. Her pursuit of knowledge uncovered the lack of inclusivity in the wellness community. Since then, she has been committed to providing thoroughly researched information for those who are often overlooked.

Episode 190: The Value of Naming Your Emotional Experience

Episode 190: The Value of Naming Your Emotional Experience

In this week's Mind Remapping episode, I will share with you my journey of waking up in an uncomfortable emotional space and how I overcame it by naming and acknowledging my emotions, creating a safe space to express them, and truly listening to my body. You will also learn of the harmful myth of leaving your feelings at the door and the impact this mindset can have on our relationships and well-being.

    Key Takeaways:

Leave Your Feelings at the Door - Though there are some life instances wherein we have to table our feelings, we must prioritize emotional health by finding healthy ways to process and express our emotions in the long term.

Communication Beyond Words - Communication is more than just the words we speak because it includes our body, emotions, and sensations.

Naming Our Emotional Experience - The earlier we can recognize that something is happening that we need to take notice of, the faster we can begin to explore the emotions we’re feeling.

Consult the Feelings Wheel - Getting to the root of your emotions will allow you to understand and know how to take care of yourself.

Expanding Your Emotional Fluency - It involves not only becoming more aware of our own emotions but also learning how to navigate and express them in a way that promotes healthy relationships and emotional well-being.

    Helpful Resource:

Listening to Your Body - Our bodies are incredible instruments of communication. They often convey our emotional states long before our minds can fully process them. The ability to interpret the signals our bodies send us is a powerful tool for emotional intelligence and self-care.

    Notable Highlights:

“Oftentimes when we don't name our emotions, when we don't honor what's going on with ourselves, it will impact the people around us.”

“Oftentimes, what we can't name, we often dismiss or try to push away.”

“When you name your emotional experience, it gives you access to what you need to do next to take care of yourself.”

“If you don't take a moment to honor and name the experience that you're having, then you will end up pushing through and the impact of your experience will often bleed on others.”

“Some people shy away from positive emotional experiences because they're so used to negative emotional experiences that positive emotional experiences feel foreign.”

Episode 189: The Spousification of Black Males and the Impact of Being in a Love Relationship with Len Sturdivant

Episode 189: The Spousification of Black Males and the Impact of Being in a Love Relationship with Len Sturdivant

In this week's Mind Remapping episode, Coach Leonard joins me to discuss how parents can prevent emotional incest, set healthy emotional boundaries with their kids, and talk about feelings without making them feel responsible for adult emotions. Buckle up as we explore this crucial aspect of parenting and learn practical strategies for promoting healthy emotional development in our kids.

    Key Takeaways:

Emotional Incest - A situation where a child is placed in a role of emotional support usually reserved for a spouse.

Setting Boundaries - Parents should clearly communicate what is appropriate and inappropriate in terms of emotional expression and interaction with children.

Gender-Specific Roles - The same-sex parent plays a significant role in shaping a child's understanding of gender roles and relationships.

Breaking a Pattern Through Conversation - An honest and open conversation between parents and children is crucial for breaking the pattern of emotional incest.

    Helpful Resource:

The three-step approach of awareness, acceptance, and action can be a powerful tool for addressing challenges with a sense of mindfulness.

    Notable Highlights:

"Mama was always harder on the daughter than on the son if dad was not in the picture, that spousification thing is starting to gel now."

"It's important to understand that as that vacuum takes place because of a parent's absence, it's not appropriate for a child to take care of that."

"Crossing the generational line comes from wanting to fix or solve the problem so that you can feel better."

"It's ok for a parent to show emotion in front of their child so long as they're not putting the responsibility on the child for them to make their child responsible for fixing."

"A child's first language is energy."

"The most important person usually in the child's life is the same sex parent."

"Denial is a river in Egypt, but it's also a thing we tend to do when we feel convicted."

Episode 188: Holding Space for the Complexity and Contradictions of Trauma

Episode 188: Holding Space for the Complexity and Contradictions of Trauma

In this week's Mind Remapping episode, I will share with you the complexities and contradictions that come with trauma and how we can embody the art of holding space for these complexities. Buckle up as we discover how trauma responses differ among individuals and how empathy, understanding, and emotional intelligence can foster healing and help us make a difference.

    Key Takeaways:

Complexity of Trauma - Everyone probably carries some trauma that lives differently in different people and looks differently as it manifests in behavior and communication.
Trauma Responses - It is the body and the mind's signal to us that there is physical, psychological, emotional, or social danger or threat.
Acknowledging Multiple Truths - Let’s begin holding space for two things that can be true and let go of the scarcity thinking that if one person is right, the has to be wrong.
Honest Communication - Our society needs to advocate for honest communication because when it’s done in the right way, it is very useful.
Access to Empathy - Instead of only seeing things from our own perspective, we can gain empathy by stepping back and observing interactions from a neutral standpoint.

    Helpful Resource:

Holding space helps us navigate the complexity of trauma as we allow other people's harm to be valid and still not invalidate our own experience.

    Notable Highlights:

“Almost everyone probably carries some trauma. You can't have lived a life and not been impacted.”

“The belief sets up the view of how people see things, communicate, receive communication, how they experience emotion or not, and how they dissociate from emotion.”

“When people are responding from trauma, oftentimes they're in tunnel vision.”

“Both people can be correct in certain ways and manners.”

“Acknowledging another person's harm does not invalidate the trauma that you've experienced.”

“The reaction from the wounded place is not the most powerful reaction and it can be harmful. On the other hand, recognizing the wounded place is powerful.”

Great Podcast Experience

I admit that I don’t listen to many podcasts mainly because many don’t align with my outlook on life. Well, that void has been filled with the Black Mind Garden. Dr. Claiborne is a great motivational speaker who is willing to share important life nuggets that we can use daily. I had the pleasure of meeting her and I look forward to listening to all her episodes. I encourage you to listen and see for yourself.
