[Soulpreneur 411] Can you still make money from blogging in 2022?

[Soulpreneur 411] Can you still make money from blogging in 2022?

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we’re looking at the viability of blogging in this current economic environment and if it's still possible to make money from blogging.
This week’s question comes from Giselle.
She wants to know: I hear a lot of stories, including yours, of bloggers who are making 1000s who started their blog before 2017. Do you have any success stories of bloggers making 1000s of dollars who started their blog after, for example, 2019? That would be super helpful to hear.
This is a GREAT question, and one that makes a ton of sense given how much things have changed in even the last couple of years. And the truth is, the way to make real money from blogging has shifted.
I started Root + Revel, my former blog, at the end of 2015. BUT — I started a second business, KateKordsmeier.com, in 2019. That was a brand new website started from scratch. And it actually grew faster than Root + Revel grew.
So I’ve had experience with launching and growing in really different economic seasons and really different digital landscapes.
Let’s dive in and talk about what’s different — and how an adjustment in how you approach selling can make ALL the difference in 2022 and beyond.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
The difference between traffic-dependent sites and conversion sites What you absolutely HAVE to do now in order to create a sustainable income from blogging Why you don’t have to be an influencer with millions of followers in order to make great money How our Launch It With Soul mini-course can help you perfect your online offer  Subscribe and Review

[Soulpreneur 411] Addressing the biggest struggle for mompreneurs

[Soulpreneur 411] Addressing the biggest struggle for mompreneurs

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we’re tackling the age-old struggle for women entrepreneurs: How do we find time to get our businesses off the ground while tending to all of the other invisible labor that so many women do every week?
This week’s question comes from Ana, who is a student in our 6FBA program.
She says: I've been trying to get my blog business off the ground. And I've been struggling to figure out how to have the flexibility to be a good mom, and also give enough time to the blog business. My business is honestly something I love. How do I make it possible to hold both of these things?
First off, you can probably feel all the heads nodding in agreement. I don't know any mompreneurs who haven't wrestled with this push-pull.
Frankly, the reality of invisible labor is something almost all women have to deal with, even if they don't have kids. But it can really get amplified when you have children.
So in today’s episode, I’ll address this great question in two parts:
The importance of treating your business like a business, and The importance of getting the support you need as a woman in business This is a really rich topic, and I’m so glad we get a chance to talk about this subject honestly.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
What it means to treat your business like a business The huge misconception we have about starting online businesses Why you should invest in your business before you’re making money Why we have to let go of the myth of “doing it all” How getting support can be a total game-changer Subscribe and Review

[Soulpreneur 411] Kartra vs Kajabi: Why I switched to Kartra (and love it)

[Soulpreneur 411] Kartra vs Kajabi: Why I switched to Kartra (and love it)

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we're talking about why I am such a huge fan of Kartra as an all-in-one marketing platform, even when you're just starting out.
This week’s question comes from Traci at TraciNicoleSmith.com.
She says: I started my learning portal on Kajabi. And I noticed that you switched to Kartra. So I'd love to know what made you decide to switch over to Kartra and if you think I should, too.
It’s true that I used to use Kajabi to host my online courses. And I understand the skepticism around the term “all-in-one” — because often, all-in-one platforms sacrifice quality for quantity. They're trying to do too much at the same time, and everything gets kind of diluted.
But I've had the opposite experience with Kartra.
I started the free trial with Kartra in November of 2020, and I have never looked back. It replaced nearly a dozen other platforms I was using for various features, it streamlined my business like never before, and it saved me over $12,000 a year to switch.
In this episode, I’m going to detail why I love this platform so much, and why I recommend it to all of my students — even when your business is new and small.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
What Karta replaced — and why that mattered so much for my business What I say to women who have already started with another email marketing platform and are hesitant to migrate everything over Why Kartra is not as expensive as you think The importance of starting with a platform that can grow with your business Subscribe and Review

[Soulpreneur 411] How much content do you need to launch the website you're working on?

085: [Soulpreneur 411] How much content do you need to launch the website you're working on?

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we’ve got a recording of a live coaching call! We’re talking about how to know when you have enough content to "go live" with your blog and all the pressure we put on ourselves before we launch the website.   This week’s question comes from Amy in Chicago.
She wants to know: If you're starting a blog, and have the idea for it, how much content should you put up front before you launch it?
I get this question a LOT, so I’m glad Amy asked it.
Here’s a weird thing: We build this moment up in our heads so much, but in reality, launching your website is actually one of the most anti-climatic moments in your business. No joke!
So let’s talk about why probably no one will notice — and why that is 100% okay, and why it should actually free you up to just take the leap.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
A mindset shift that will take the pressure off The few things you really do need to do before you launch (it’s not more blog posts) What I learned from my own launch What your first blog post should be about Subscribe and Review

[Soulpreneur 411] Emailing Your List Again After a Long Hiatus

[Soulpreneur 411] Emailing Your List Again After a Long Hiatus

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today I'm offering tips on email marketing to your list after you've been radio silent for a while.   This week’s question comes from Stacy Karen of No Fuss Natural.
She wants to know: How should I approach emailing my list after I've been MIA for a really long time? Do you think it's better to just jump straight back into it, or build back up slowly?
We’ve all had a situation where we’ve struggled to stay consistent with our blogging. And sometimes life happens — family emergency, long illness, you have a baby — and you're gone for a long time.
I’ll start by saying this: often, we’re overthinking it. Meaning, we assume that there’s a “right” way to get back into it, when really the right way is whatever way is best for you.
In this Soulpreneur 411 episode, I get into the importance of consistency over frequency, how your goals should guide your email scheduling, and why you really really should be setting up automated systems.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
Key questions to ask yourself that can help determine your emailing frequency How you can keep in touch with your list, even if you aren’t working My advice for how you should address your absence with your readers

[Soulpreneur 411] Using an edit calendar to manage your blogging schedule like a pro

[Soulpreneur 411] Using an edit calendar to manage your blogging schedule like a pro

Welcome to our new Soulpreneur 411 series — where I answer your questions about building a business that serves your whole life. Today we're talking about batching work, creating a schedule, and using an edit calendar to manage your blog posts so you can get out of stress mode when it comes to regular creation and production.  This week our question comes in from Amanda.
She wants to know: What did your blogging schedule look like when it was just you without a team?
As you all know, for a long time, I also was just a one woman show. When I first started my blog, I would write each post and publish as I went. In other words, I was never working or planning in advance.

As you can probably guess, and maybe you have first hand experience, this is a very stressful way to work. I constantly felt behind and rushed and overwhelmed.
There’s a way to get out of that cycle of stress and overwhelm when it comes to managing your blog — and that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today.
I’m sharing about the strategies, systems, and organizational tools I use to stay out of stress mode and create the room I want with my blogging schedule and my business as a whole.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
Why working ahead is deeply liberating How I use an edit calendar to manage all aspects of my blogging Why it’s important to let go of the myth of multitasking and embrace batching Subscribe and Review
