I’m Darin Olien, the “superfood hunter.”
On this podcast, you’ll hear honest conversations with extraordinary people that inspire me. I hope that through their knowledge and unique perspectives, they’ll inspire you, too. Although our ideas and approaches to life may differ, our ultimate goal is the same. We want to save the planet. So let’s try, one conversation at a time.
Each week I release a second episode where I dive into one of society’s Fatal Conveniences™. I define Fatal Conveniences™ as the things that you’re doing or the products you’re buying to make life easier. But those very things may actually be harming you, or the Earth. But don’t worry, in each episode I give you easy ways to tweak your habits so that you can live a healthier, cleaner life, all while protecting our planet.
So if you want to live a kickass life and leave the world a better place, this is the podcast for you.
Fatal Conveniences™: Ziploc Plastic Storage Bags: Toxic for Humans & the Ocean
They’re in your kids’ lunchboxes, your kitchen drawers, and probably in your refrigerator. Ziploc storage bags have been a part of American culture for decades. But those toxic plastic baggies are leaching harmful chemicals into your food - and killing marine life. Sure, they’re “recyclable,” but they’re ending up in our oceans in massive amounts.
There are so many safer, environmentally friendly options for food storage. It’s time to commit to giving up plastic baggies for good!

How Farmlink is Turning Food Waste into Food Security | Aidan Reilly
The pandemic has put the issue of food insecurity into full view. So many families struggled to get the food they needed this last year, and the number in need is only rising. While people are going hungry, farms are forced to throw away billions of pounds of wasted produce, dairy and eggs. Aidan Reilly, the co-founder of The Farmlink Project, found a way to turn food waste into food security. And he wants you to get involved, too.

Fatal Conveniences™: Keurig Coffee Machines: Pods of Waste
Why do we try so hard to reinvent the wheel? Keurig, Nespresso, and other coffee pod machines are ruining our planet - and our health.
This one shouldn’t be a big surprise - we all know how wasteful those coffee pods are. Not only that, but the machine itself is a mold and bacteria petri dish! But if you’ve been holding on to your Keurig despite that knowledge, maybe this episode will be that push you need to finally cut the cord. It’s time to ditch those coffee pod machines and go back to the old-school java methods.

How Fermentation Can Heal Your Gut | Lauren Mones
When Lauren Mones was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, she was told she’d always be sick. It wasn’t until she read about the healing powers of fermented food and tried sauerkraut for the first time that she believed otherwise.
Humans have been using the fermentation process for gut health for thousands of years. It’s time we unlearned what we think we know about digestive health and dive back into the basics.

Facial recognition technology is an amazing thing. It bulks up the security game of government agencies, companies, and facilities all over the world. The science behind it blows my mind, frankly. But is it really necessary to use a face scanner to unlock your phone? There is just too much we don’t know about the long-term effects of Infrared Radiation (IR). But what we do know is disturbing enough. It’s time to open our eyes to the effects of facial recognition tech and go back to good old-fashioned passcodes.

This podcast will change your life. That’s it in a nutshell. I’ve been listening for over a year and my global and personal awareness has changed dramatically. Just listen. Beyond grateful for you, Darin!!!!!!!
When I first started watching Down To Earth, I was hooked! He offers simple and “down to earth” approaches to things we have gone so far from in the modern world. He and Zac propose a life of living in a relaxed and earth-friendly environment. I’ve been looking so long for someone to bring these things to light as I want so badly to get back to a simpler life. I’m now moving to the suburbs and incorporating the things Darin and Zac speak of. Thank you for a refreshing podcast!
It’s not complicated
I love Darin’s simple and direct delivery. It’s not information overload. He’s also kinda funny/quirky and well informed at the same time. The more I listen to Darin, Rich Roll, Rip, Bec Frith (on IG) - these people are on it when it comes to health and wellness. I want what they have so for me…changes are coming.
