The Fat Doctor Podcast
How would you react if someone told you that most of what we are taught to believe about healthy bodies is a lie? How would you feel if that person was a medical doctor with over 20 years experience treating patients and seeing the harm caused by all this misinformation? In their podcast, Dr Asher Larmie, an experienced General Practitioner and self-styled Fat Doctor, examines and challenges 'health' as we know it through passionate, unfiltered conversations with guest experts, colleagues and friends. They tackle the various ways in which weight stigma and anti-fat bias impact both individuals and society as a whole. From the classroom to the boardroom, the doctors office to the local pub, weight-based discrimination is everywhere. Is it any wonder that it has such an impact on our health? Whether you're a person affected by weight stigma, a healthcare professional, a concerned parent or an ally who shares our view that people in larger bodies deserve better, Asher and the team at 'The Fat Doctor Podcast' welcomes you into the inner circle.

Please listen to this pod. I do hope they plan to offer more someday. It’s brilliant, and has helped me as a nurse, a patient, and a fat human. Very enjoyable to listen to Dr Asher Laramie speak and love this important voice in the medical field.
Ethics concern

The most recent season made me a little uncomfortable to listen to because it feels a little like either people’s privacy is being invaded/coaching shared without consent, even in pieces, or like something false is being shared as if it were real/created as a fantasy? Both options make me super uncomfortable. I know Asher says that the person is fictional, but a lot of it feels like a real scenario, and I know having my nutritional/mental health stories shared in support of a fake story without consent would wreak me, and I’m not sure if changing the context would make it better or worse. If it’s a truly fictional person with no basis in fact I’m not sure why I should trust the story and am not super into it being presented as realistic. Asher talks a lot about accountability, so I hope that if this is a common review he will take it into account in the future.
