EP109: Jillian Coburn's Story of Resilience and Hope after Violence and Assault

EP109: Jillian Coburn's Story of Resilience and Hope after Violence and Assault

Jillian Coburn, a sexual assault survivor, advocate, and entrepreneur, is stepping out to share her story and implement positive change in our government legislation.

Jillian Coburn is an entrepreneur, inventor, writer, outdoors-woman, and mother of three, who is passionately committed to supporting and elevating women who have nowhere to turn and living under the shadows of domestic violence. As a survivor, she assists women living with abuse by empowering and teaching them how to get out, heal, and build a life they’ve always imagined. Jillian was on a committee where she and her colleagues triumphed, passing Bill 492, allowing victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse to have their day in court against their perpetrators. Her dream is to have all states follow the new trend of eliminating the Statute of Limitations for Childhood Survivors. Energetic and involved in speaking and outreach, Jillian continues striving for people in situations of domestic violence to get out safely. She also has been working with victims of the Boy Scouts of America, Human Trafficking, and those who need to escape, but empower them to pursue the life they’d always imagined. Healing, listening, and providing tools are her expertise.

https://www.snapnetwork.org/rally_for_texas_statute_of_limitations_reform Working with SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests), they have announced how they are supporting HB 206, filed by Rep. Ann Johnson.

“It is time for Texas to update it laws so that survivors can file a lawsuit no matter how long ago the abuse took place, and no matter how old the survivor is. The time is up for Texas to catch up with 24 other states that have retroactive or revival legislation. We demand zero tolerance for child abusers that continue to find their way into schools, churches, camps and anywhere our children have the right to be safe from sexual abuse.

We support HB 2061, filed by Rep. Ann Johnson, as it gives us a glimpse of hope that our laws are moving towards a survivor-centered and trauma-informed landscape. Laws that are retroactive, reviving previously expired SOLs, will allow survivors of child sexual abuse(CSA) to take legal action against predators, and the institutions who enabled them. Civil litigation exposes hidden predators, an important point with statistics revealing that 70% of child predators have between 1 and 9 victims, and 20% have 10-40 victims.

EP108: Gasping for Air, The Stranglehold of Narcissistic Abuse Dana Diaz Survivor Story

EP108: Gasping for Air, The Stranglehold of Narcissistic Abuse Dana Diaz Survivor Story

Dana S. Diaz studied journalism and psychology at DePaul University. While there’s no better teacher than life experience and Dana has had life-long experiences with narcissistic abuse, her education did give her the ability to accurately verbalize and express how narcissistic abuse creates confusion and conflict within victims. Today, Dana is a proud voice for fellow victims who are unable, afraid, or ashamed to share their experiences. She strives to create awareness and understanding to ensure victims are given the support they need to first understand their situation and then begin the healing process. Her first book, chronicling her own abusive marriage that lasted nearly three decades, started as a journal that she hid under the couch cushion in the basement. When she isn’t speaking out on narcissistic abuse, Dana can be found listening to music by Eric Hutchinson, ElleKing, Green Day, Amy Winehouse, Julia Michaels, and Taylor Swift. She equally loves her gray Converse shoes (she wears them every day!) and her Toyota FJ Cruiser. Dana watches the sunrise and set every single day, and enjoys hikes in the woods. She absolutely loves animals for their sensitivity and loving hearts and has two cats, Kitty Kitty and Tigger. Dana makes her home in Illinois with her husband Doug.
