What is Hydration and How do we use it?
"If we're adequately hydrated, performance can be improved. I would go in the order of 10 to 20% from a dehydrated person to a hydrated person. That same person performing whatever their sport is, dehydrated versus adequately and well hydrated can be a 10 to 20% change in performance, which is not a small number."
In today's Pain and Performance Podcast episode, Dr. Derrick talks about the importance of hydration and its impact on overall health. He sheds light on how hydration goes beyond simply drinking water, playing a crucial role in supporting various bodily functions.
Chronic dehydration affects a considerable portion of the population, leading to cognitive impairments, reduced physical performance, and other health issues. Proper hydration is essential for temperature regulation, nutrient transport, digestion, joint and muscle function, and waste removal.
Understanding the science behind hydration and implementing effective strategies can optimize cognitive performance, physical abilities, and overall well-being. Dr. Derrick provides practical approaches to enhance hydration. You will learn:
- The importance of consuming hydrating foods rich in nutrients and electrolytes, such as fruits, vegetables, meats, and nuts, to maintain the body's water balance.
- Why incorporate greens like spinach, kale, alfalfa sprouts, and chia seeds into your diet?
- How regular movement, stretching, and exercise aid in distributing hydration throughout the body.

Reversing Thyroid Damage with Peptides and Functional Medicine with Dr. Anshul Gupta
Can you reverse thyroid damage? To answer this and many other questions, tune in to another episode with Dr. Anshul Gupta
1. Functional medicine approaches to treating thyroid disorders may include optimizing nutrient intake, using supplements such as probiotics or selenium, and addressing underlying root causes such as gut dysfunction or chronic stress.
2. BPC-157 is another amazing peptide that can help treat stomach issues and nutrient absorption that happens with hypothyroid function and Hashimoto's disease. This amazing peptide can help to repair and regenerate tissue while reducing inflammation and load on the immune system. This can be a great addition to Hashimoto's program.
3. One study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in 2004 found that elevated levels of CRP were associated with an increased risk of hypothyroidism in women. Another study published in the European Journal of Endocrinology in 2010 found that elevated levels of CRP were associated with a decreased response to thyroid hormone replacement therapy in individuals with hypothyroidism.
4. Conventional medical treatments for thyroid disorders may include hormone replacement therapy, anti-thyroid medications, or surgery. While these treatments can be effective, they may also have side effects such as weight gain, insomnia, or anxiety.
5. It's important to note that medication and lifestyle changes should always be discussed with a healthcare provider, and treatment plans should be individualized based on a person's specific health needs and concerns.

The TRUTH about thyroid dysfunction and weight-gain with Dr. Anshul Gupta
You've probably heard about thyroid function and how it relates to energy production and weight management but how do you know if that is something that you need to work on? test? Diagnose?
If you have dealt with energy issues, weight gain problems, hair or skin issues or even mood changes the thyroid gland is involved in some way but is it the main problem? Tune in to Dr. Anshul Gupta on today's show to find out!
1. The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck that produces hormones that regulate metabolism, growth, and development. It plays a critical role in the body's overall hormonal balance.
2. The most common thyroid disorders are hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid), and thyroid cancer. Hypothyroidism is typically diagnosed through blood tests measuring levels of thyroid hormones and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), while hyperthyroidism may require additional testing such as radioactive iodine uptake.
3. Some recent research has suggested that autoimmune dysfunction may play a role in the development of thyroid disorders, particularly Hashimoto's disease (a type of hypothyroidism) and Graves' disease (a type of hyperthyroidism). A 2020 study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that individuals with autoimmune thyroid disease had a higher prevalence of additional autoimmune conditions, suggesting a possible shared underlying mechanism. (Source: Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism)
4. Diet and exercise can play a key role in supporting thyroid health. Research has shown that adequate intake of nutrients such as iodine, selenium, and vitamin D are important for thyroid function. In addition, regular exercise can help improve thyroid function and metabolic health. (Source: Journal of Thyroid Research)

Corporate spine
Great information- as a retired nurse, I have thought about neuro vs ortho! He explains this so well. I also appreciated his journey as an orthopedic surgeon and his thoughts about outcomes of spine surgery. Well worth the time to listen to this podcast!
The One Habit to Improve Health and Healing
I have listened to almost all of these podcasts and, I must say, all of them have been excellent. This one hit home with me, since I have done the reset program with Acadiana Pain. This includes fasting as the primary factor, and I not only lost weight and visceral fat, but my pain decreased and my energy increased. In addition my labs looked great, indicating a positive metabolic change. Now I am a huge advocate of this approach. Dr. Hines is so great at encouraging holistic healing.
