Finding Resilience with Running and Eating Disorder Recovery with Liz Newcomer

Finding Resilience with Running and Eating Disorder Recovery with Liz Newcomer

Today, I have a very special guest, Liz Newcomer on the show! You may know her from the Resiliency in Running podcast and instagram platform, and now YouTube channel! Liz and I have a great conversation about her journey with running, training, social media, and resilience in her recovery from an eating disorder as a runner. Through her journey, Liz shares a story of strength and inspiration. We talk about concerns in the running space related to nutrition, how to navigate training and recovery from disordered eating, why the running space is fixated on body image and eating patterns, and how to thrive as a runner in a culture that demonizes how we SHOULD be fueling. This is a great conversation and you will not want to miss it. Be sure to connect with Liz on her social media pages, and listen to her podcast!

LIVE From Boston with Holley Samuel: How Intra Run Fueling Impacts Mood, Pop Tarts Hot Takes, and More!

Today, I chat live at the Boston Marathon weekend with Holley Samuel, RD, MEd, CSSD, CPT! Holley and I combine our passions to have a great discussion about mindset and fueling during the marathon! We discuss the super cool science about how your nutrition during your runs impacts way more than just your stamina - it impacts your headspace, mindset, and mood too! If you have ever been in a race where your outlook is pessimistic, you start doubting yourself, or you feel upset, listen in to how simple changes in nutrition may actually help turn that mindset around! After our discussion, we then answered some of your questions that you asked through Instagram, such as "What's the deal with pop tarts?" and "Is my energy low due to underfueling or overtraining?" and so many more! This is a great episode you won't want to miss, and it was a pleasure to have Holley on the show again!

Endorphin Addiction and Endurance Sports with Atomic Thorson

Endorphin Addiction and Endurance Sports with Atomic Thorson

On today’s episode, I have Atomic Thorson on the show to discuss her personal and inspiring story, and dive into some interesting research! As an athlete, Atomic overcame a dependence on endorphins from exercise, which is an experience that many other athletes experience, but is not discussed enough. After sharing her story, we discuss some of the research about the mechanisms that explain how individuals become dependent on endorphins. From rat studies to human research, we discuss some of the functions and outcomes of exercise addiction, how it relates to underfueling, and how to recover from this cycle. If you want to hear an inspiring story or are interested in this topic, this episode is for you! This episode is not a replacement for therapy, not intended to diagnose or treat, and contains discussions surrounding disordered eating. Please reach out to a professional if you are concerned about your relationship with food or exercise and skip this episode if you find these topics triggering.
