    The Walt Disney Company

The Walt Disney Company is the most successful enterprise ever created for monetizing human nostalgia. Today it’s the king of global entertainment, holding the intellectual property rights to the childhood memories of billions of people (including, likely, all of you) and is a reliable, predictable profitable business. But it didn’t start that way. During Walt’s era, Disney operated like an unhinged moonshot factory, blowing its finances on one seemingly crazy project after another, like the very first feature-length animated film or a theme park inspired by Walt's fascination with model trains (spoiler: Disneyland). Walt’s relentless ambition to bet the company over and over again not only created some of the most monumental artistic achievements of the 20th century (Snow White, Fantasia, Disney Imagineering), but also resulted in the accidental invention of the modern “flywheel” business model. In this episode, we tell the story of the ultimate marriage of art, commerce, and engineering — The Walt Disney Company: Walt's Era. Vanguard

Vanguard is the most effective vehicle ever created for participating in the fruits of American capitalism. Today it’s the single largest equity owner of the majority of corporations in the S&P 500, on behalf of 50 million clients (including, likely, many of you). And yet Vanguard itself is essentially a communist organization — it has no shareholders, makes no profits, and operates more like REI than Fidelity. If you own a Vanguard fund, you own a piece of the firm itself. Any excess margin instead gets returned to clients in the form of lower fees, which since 1975 have added up to roughly five hundred billion dollars transferred out of Wall Street managers’ pockets and into retail investors’ savings accounts. And oh yeah, it all started as a cockamamie revenge plot by a guy who’d just been fired by his partners. Today we tell the story of communist capitalism at its finest — Vanguard. Is Software Losing Its Head?

Seema Amble, Steven Sinofsky, and Elena Burger unpack one of the biggest questions facing enterprise software: what happens when AI agents become the primary users of software instead of humans? The conversation explores the rise of "headless" software, why APIs and agentic workflows are reshaping enterprise applications, and whether traditional SaaS products are becoming systems of record rather than systems of engagement. They discuss Salesforce's Headless 360 announcement, MCP, enterprise software architecture, and why AI may fundamentally change how businesses interact with their data. Along the way, they examine what actually makes enterprise software sticky, why replacing systems like SAP and Salesforce is harder than it appears, and where startups have the greatest opportunity as AI reshapes the software stack.   Resources: Follow Seema Amble on X: https://x.com/seema_amble Follow Steven Sinofsky on X: https://x.com/stevesi Follow Elena Burger on X: https://x.com/VirtualElena Related Reading Is Software Losing Its Head?https://a16z.com/is-software-losing-its-head/ The Death of Software? OpenAI Codex lead on the new shape of product work | Andrew Ambrosino

Andrew Ambrosino leads development of the Codex desktop app at OpenAI. Nearly 100% of OpenAI employees—not just engineers—now use Codex weekly. A lifelong builder with a background spanning engineering, design, product management, and founding companies, he is now responsible for turning the Codex desktop experience into what he calls “the best desktop app that has ever existed, full stop.” In our in-depth conversation, we discuss: 1. Why AI has completely flipped the product development process 2. What “taste” really means as a professional skill, and why it is emerging as the most valuable capability in an AI-first workplace 3. Why Andrew believes the Codex app would have failed if they launched it last November (vs. in February) 4. The “zone defense” model for how product managers at OpenAI operate when everyone can build anything 5. How roles are collapsed on Andrew’s team, and why eliminating the concept of roles entirely is a big mistake 6. How Andrew uses Codex to run his own workflows 7. The vision for a home base that coordinates work across ChatGPT, Codex, and the tools people already use. — Brought to you by: WorkOS—Make your app enterprise-ready, with SSO, SCIM, RBAC, and more Mercury—Radically different banking, now with Command — Episode transcript: https://www.lennysnewsletter.com/p/openais-codex-lead-on-the-new-shape — Archive of all Lenny's Podcast transcripts: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/yxi4s2w998p1gvtpu4193/AMdNPR8AOw0lMklwtnC0TrQ?rlkey=j06x0nipoti519e0xgm23zsn9&st=ahz0fj11&dl=0 — Where to find Andrew Ambrosino: • X: https://x.com/ajambrosino • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ajambrosino • Website: https://ambrosino.io — Where to find Lenny: • Newsletter: https://www.lennysnewsletter.com • X: https://twitter.com/lennysan • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lennyrachitsky/ — In this episode, we cover: (00:00) Introduction to Andrew Ambrosino (02:30) How AI is changing the shape of product work (06:32) When to use documents vs. prototypes (10:25) What “taste” actually means (12:06) Why AI is still bad at design (16:18) Is the design process really dead?
