Ep: 53 “Why Snoring in Children Isn’t Cute” with Dr Rafif Tayara

Send us Fan Mail Perfect, I’d add that as the book link and keep the notes clean like this: In this episode of Next of Kin: The Podcast, I’m joined by Dr Rafif Tayara, paediatric dentist, mum of three and founder of The Pediatric Academy. We chat about her whole-child approach to paediatric dentistry and why oral health is about so much more than just teeth. We get into breathing, sleep, feeding, dummies, jaw development, first dental visits and some of the things we can look out for as parents. I also put some of your Kin Club questions to Dr Tayara, including thumb sucking, overnight feeding and when to start brushing your baby’s teeth. Today’s episode is kindly sponsored by The Pediatric Academy, an evidence-based educational platform bringing together trusted guidance and resources from healthcare professionals across different paediatric specialties. There are also some brilliant guides and free resources available for parents. All mums can also receive 20% off at Junior Dental Clinic, where Dr Rafif Tayara practises.

"You’re So Much Stronger Than You Think": One Family's Double Battle with Childhood Cancer

This week on Happy Mum, we are joined by strong, inspiring and incredible mother of two Sophie Derry. When Sophie's daughter Odette started vomiting on car journeys and having headaches, doctors initially put it down to travel sickness. An eye test changed everything, revealing a brain tumour that would lead to emergency surgery and fifteen further operations over seven months. Before the family could catch their breath, Sophie's younger daughter Eliza was diagnosed with leukaemia. Sophie opens up to Gi about what it's like to face childhood cancer not once but twice -- the fear, the exhaustion, and the moments of hope. If you’d like to show your support for some of the charities that have been there for Sophie, you can find links to them below: PASIC  https://www.pasic.org.uk When You Wish Upon a Star  https://www.whenyouwishuponastar.org.uk Young Lives v Cancer  https://www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk Hosted on Acast. Add avocado oil and onion to pan2. Cook the onion until translucent and add the Italian sausage. Season however makes your heart happy3. Boil salted water for rigatoni- once boiled add rigatoni and cook al dente. You want it slightly firmer because it’ll cook in the meat sauce more.4. Once sausage is cooked add in garlic and tomato paste. Get the meat coated in the paste and then add in your grape tomatoes and broth. Cover and let simmer- your goal is to get the tomatoes covered in broth enough to burst them5. Chop your zucchini into quarters and add them to your meat sauce6. Once your tomatoes are soft/bursting you may need to help a few others and press in them with your cooking utensil. Add some more salt and pepper if you so desire7. I like to add about 1/3 cup of pasta water! Drain your pasta and then add it to the meat sauce. Stir a lot to incorporate everything!8. You can top this with any sort of cheese you like!Fruity pebble Rice Krispie treats:Here’s the issue… I eyeball just about everything but here are my tipsUSE SALTED BUTTER- roughly 2 TbsOG FRUITY PEBBLES ONLY CANNOT BE OFF BRANDMini mallows are easier to use than giant ones but get the big bag not the 10ozPut your mini mallows in a large microwave safe bowl with salted butter on top. Microwave in 30 sec intervals until boiling lava hot then eyeball your fruity pebbles. You do not want to add the suggested amount of cereal because they will not be ooey gooey they will turn out more dry. So maybe like a cup less. But add in desired cereal amount and stir. Then put em in a pan and push them down with parchment paper you’ve sprayed with oil. Episode 188: Honey Spencer

Honey Spencer is a wine expert who has two little boys aged 6 and 1.  She and her husband Charlie run a neighbourhood restaurant called ‘Sune’ in Hackney in East London, which she describes as feeling ‘wholesome and right’. Honey told me that Georgia is the birthplace of wine, and how she is a fan of ‘skin contact’ wine. She also described how vineyards are like the ‘canary in the coal mine’ of climate change. Honey has written a book about natural (organic) wines and is the wine director of Eurostar. She told me how pregnancy gave her a superhero palate, and we debated the wisdom of eating ginger biscuits during wine tasting… Listen to the podcast to come to your own conclusion! Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Don’t Skip The FOUR PILLARS

Welcome to Episode 318 of Autism Parenting Secrets. Many parents enter this journey searching for the next therapy, treatment, supplement, or breakthrough intervention.  While those approaches can absolutely help, Dr. Kurt Woeller believes one of the most common mistakes is pursuing advanced therapies before establishing the foundations that allow them to work. Dr. Woeller is an integrative and functional medicine physician, biomedical autism specialist, educator, author, and Chief Medical Officer of Mosaic Diagnostics.  For nearly 30 years, he has helped families and practitioners better understand the underlying factors influencing health, development, communication, behavior, and recovery. In this conversation, he shares the Four Pillars that he believes should remain at the center of every biomedical program: diet, foundational nutrients, gut health, and methylation.  He also explains why individualized investigation, thoughtful testing, and consistent implementation matter far more than chasing the latest trend. The secret this week is…  Don’t Skip The FOUR PILLARS You'll Discover: Why skipping the foundation slows progress (9:12) The FOUR PILLARS every parent should strengthen first (10:47) How to find your child's unique "kryptonite" (30:18) The one test NOT to skip (41:36) Why great parents become great detectives (50:09) About Our Guest: Dr. Kurt N. 285: ENCORE: How Do I Help My Kid Develop a Work Ethic?

If you've repeatedly asked your kid to help out and they still don’t follow through, this is the episode you’ve been waiting for. Dr. Lisa Damour breaks down why nagging doesn't build a work ethic — and what actually does. From linking privileges to responsibilities, to knowing exactly when to step back and let natural consequences do the teaching, this encore episode gives parents of tweens and teens a practical, guilt-free framework for raising kids who can be counted on, without turning every chore or assignment into a battle. 💡 YOU'LL LEARN: - Why structure matters more than warmth alone, and why holding the line on chores, even when kids are grumpy, is the right call - Why extrinsic motivation is perfectly valid, and how linking responsibilities to privileges mirrors the way the real world actually works - Why "complain but comply" is a completely reasonable goal, and how releasing the expectation of cheerful enthusiasm takes pressure off everyone - When to stop nagging about schoolwork and let natural consequences take over, and why middle school is the best time to do so - How framing chores as a contribution rather than punishment taps into something deeper than rewards alone ________________  GET DR.
