وضعیت سیاسی در دوازده کشور عربی

جهان عرب دموکراسی را یا با امنیت معامله کرد، یا با نفت به تعویق انداخت، یا زیر آوار جنگ دفن کرد. سوریه و یمن دولت را از دست دادند، پیش از آن‌که به آزادی برسند. فلسطین حق رأی داشت، اما حق حاکمیت نه. لبنان آزادی داشت، اما دولت واحد نه. عراق صندوق رأی را دید، ولی ملت یکپارچه را نه. اردن و مراکشِ عربی‌شدهٔ خلیج قدرت را مدیریت کردند، نه واگذار. عربستان، امارات، قطر، کویت، بحرین و عمان ثبات را با رانت خریدند و گفتند «دموکراسی فعلاً ضروری نیست». درس مشترک؟ در این منطقه، دموکراسی نه قربانی «استبداد ساده»، بلکه قربانی ائتلافِ امنیت، نفت، و بحران دائمی است. آزادی این‌جا یا باید اول دولت بسازد، یا اول مرز را حل کند، یا اول از سایهٔ جنگ بیرون بیاید— و تا هیچ‌کدام اتفاق نیفتاده، دموکراسی همیشه «بعداً»ست. برای پیشنهادها و تبلیغات در پادکست فارسی با ما در ارتباط باشید: info@NewshaCast.com See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

'A Kwanzaa Keepsake and Cookbook' is an updated exploration of Kwanzaa's traditions

A Kwanzaa Keepsake and Cookbook was first published in 1995, a few decades after the seven-day festival was created in 1966. Written by culinary historian and author Jessica B. Harris, the book explores the holiday's history, traditions, rituals, and food–and in 2024, Harris released an updated version of her original guide. In today's episode, she joins Here & Now's Scott Tong for a conversation about the meaning of the seven symbols and principles of Kwanzaa. R.F. Kuang says there’s 'quite a lot' of herself in 'Katabasis' protagonist Alice

R.F. Kuang’s fantasy novel Katabasis, first published in 2025, is out in paperback. The book is about two rival doctoral students studying magic at Cambridge University. Together, they travel to hell to rescue their recently deceased thesis advisor. Last year, Kuang joined NPR’s Emiko Tamagawa for a conversation about the novel at a live event in Boston. They spoke about Kuang’s rigorous approach to the study of magic, how the author sees herself (and her husband) in Katabasis’ protagonists, and the myth of the male genius in academia.
