    South Carolina DNR

This week we’re joined by an incredible team from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR): Pamela Corwin – Saltwater Recreational Fishing Outreach Biologist Alix Pedraza – Director of Community Engagement Mark Carroll – Youth & Disability Hunts | Mobility Outreach We’re rolling into what true accessibility in the outdoors looks like, from the mountains to the coast of South Carolina. Pamela shares what inclusion looks like in saltwater programs and her favorite way to enjoy time on the water. Mark breaks down the impact of mobility-impaired hunts in the Upstate, what opportunities are out there, and what an accessible hunt looks like. Alix talks about the real challenges of community engagement and what it takes to connect more people with the outdoors. We also get into: • The rise of adaptive equipment like track wheelchairs • Barriers keeping people with mobility impairments from getting back outdoors • South Carolina’s lifetime license program • “Take One Make One” and growing participation • The shift toward more diversity, including women in outdoor careers This is a powerful conversation about breaking barriers and building access for ALL. Kevin Brewington

This Week on the Accessible Hunter Podcast! 🌟 We’re honored to welcome Corporal Kevin Brewington, an incredible Army veteran and true inspiration. Kevin enlisted in 2010 and deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, where he served with courage and heart. While on patrol, he stepped on an IED and lost both of his legs instantly and nearly his right arm in service to our country. After enduring nearly 50 surgeries and a long journey of rehabilitation, he was medically retired in 2013. Since then, Kevin hasn’t slowed down. He’s poured his energy into supporting fellow veterans, serving as an ambassador and working with organizations that help take veterans on outdoor excursions. Kevin and his family’s story took a beautiful turn when the Tunnel to Towers Foundation stepped in — paying off their mortgage and renovating their Jonesville, SC home with smart tech and accessibility features to support his independence and mobility. 🎧 Tune in this week to hear from Kevin himself — his journey from combat to community, how he finds purpose in helping others, and what drives him to get up every day to make an impact. You aren’t going to want to miss this one! 🇺🇸🔥 #AccessibleHunter #AccessibleHunterPodcast #ALSOutdoorz #BeAdaptiveEquipment #BicknellBunchOutdoors #CampFreedom #DisabledHuntingPodcast #HopeOutdoors #HuntersSharingTheHarvest #MrHeater #NevinsHuntingFriends #PerserveranceOutdoors #RedefiningOutdoorAbilityWorldwide #ROAROUTDOORS #RupertsRoostInPeaceTurkeyCalls #SpartanWheelChariots #TheOutdoorCallRadio #TraplineBeardOil #VaWheelinSportsmen #WJVA #TunneltoTowers #AdaptiveLife

    Dr Laurie Thompson

This week on the Accessible Hunter Podcast we’re bringing you a different kind of conversation… and it’s a powerful one. We’re joined by Dr. Laurie Thompson — an educator, author, and advocate who lives at the intersection of faith, disability, and real-world inclusion. At just 14 years old, Laurie was in a devastating car accident that left her permanently disabled. That moment didn’t just change her life, it shaped her purpose. We get into: • Life after a life-changing injury • Finding purpose through pain (without the clichés) • The difference between being included vs. just being allowed in • How communities—whether it’s churches or hunting camps can do better with accessibility This episode hits on something we talk about all the time… just from a different angle. It’s about identity. It’s about belonging. And it’s about making sure everyone has a place—no matter where that is. 🎙️ This one will make you think. Please check out her two books on Amazon.
