The Curve Platform

The Curve is a platform to learn more about money. To change the stereotype that these conversations are typically boring, and only for men in suits. Victoria has worked in the finance and investing world for 13 years, and Sophie is a total novice. Learn alongside her as she asks all the questions you're thinking, but might feel a little embarrassed to ask. This podcast will give you all the tools and knowledge to achieve financial freedom, as well as (hopefully) having a laugh along the way. New episodes every Monday and Thursday! 50k guaranteed or flip for a million? (The answer says a lot about you).

Would you take a guaranteed 50k or flip a coin for a shot at 1 million? A new YouGov poll reveals a huge gender gap in who's willing to take the risk, and Sophie and Abi discuss whether it's really about risk appetite, or just financial education. Then: why billionaires are buying up land in New Zealand, and how a Kiwi rocket company just spent $8 billion trying to take on Elon Musk. Plus, an AI model "hacked its way out" of a locked test environment (yes, it's as creepy as it sounds), why Apple just became the world's most valuable company while the rest of the Magnificent 7 wobble, and how Dior single-handedly propped up LVMH's entire luxury empire. And in this week's listener question, Abi breaks down the UK's triple lock pension, and why she thinks it's quietly unsustainable. Golden visa - Buy a big enough house, get a passport thrown in. Magnificent 7 - The 7 US tech giants worth more than whole countries. Sandbox testing - Letting an AI loose in a locked playpen to see what it breaks. Circular financing - Mates' companies paying each other and calling it growth. Triple lock - The state pension's built-in "always go up" button. Double lock - Triple lock's cheaper, less generous sibling. State pension - The government's weekly hand-me-down, currently ~£241. Workplace pension - The pot you and your employer actually build up. Universal Credit - The state pension's cousin, minus the good PR. Why more families than ever are ending up in court over wills.

Family disputes over wills and inheritance have risen by almost 130% in the last decade. We break down exactly why; from rising dementia rates to blended families and second marriages, to house price booms leaving families with tax bills they can't afford, and share practical ways to protect your family from becoming one of these statistics. Plus, is the Cartier Love bracelet the new Birkin? We look at whether it's actually a smart investment or just expensive peer pressure, and how the pre-owned Birkin market has returned 92% in a decade. And finally, the India exam scandal: how wealthy families have been paying $50,000 to buy medical exam papers in advance, and what it says about the widening wealth divide. WTF does that mean? A guide to all the jargony bits: Luxfluencer — Influencer, but only handbags and jewellery. Emerging market — Fast-growing economy, not quite superpower yet. GDP — The scoreboard for how much a country produces. Wealth tax — Tax on what you own, not what you earn. Still just talk. Probate — The legal admin after someone dies. Inheritance tax — The bill after death, with a tight deadline. Expression of wishes form — The pension form you filled in once and forgot. Power of attorney — Who legally decides for you if you can't. Buy Now, Pay Later Can Now Wreck Your Credit Score.

This week Sophie's joined by chartered accountant, author and finance creator Abi Foster (filling in for Vic) to unpack the UK's brand-new Buy Now, Pay Later regulations - why they've come in, what they actually mean for your credit score, and how one woman ended up $50k in debt using it. Plus: should you be divesting from the US stock market right now, SpaceX's IPO wobble and Elon losing his trillionaire status, the $110bn Warner Bros/Paramount merger 12 US states are trying to block, and a genuinely lovely bonus story about a Costco cashier who built a $1m retirement pot on minimum wage. The Money Lessons We Were Never Taught (And How to Catch Up in Your 20s and 30s).

If you've ever felt behind on money, like everyone else somehow "gets it" and you missed the lesson, this episode is for you. Sophie sits down with finance creator Ciara Anne to break down, step by step, how she went from financially avoidant to having over £200,000 invested, without cutting out the things she enjoys: what compound growth actually means and why it's so hard to grasp at first, what dollar-cost averaging is and how Ciara adapted it into her own "curated" version (holding back a portion each month to invest more when the market dips), what an ETF actually is versus picking individual stocks, why a stocks and shares ISA is tax-free, what "risk appetite" really means, the idea of Coast FIRE and retirement as a financial state rather than an age, and why so many women were never taught any of this in the first place. Ciara is living proof that building wealth doesn't require depriving yourself, just consistency and the right foundations. Why now is never the right time to invest.

This one is for anyone who has looked at the state of the world lately and thought: maybe I'll just wait until things settle down... Vic and Soph recently spoke at The London Business School and someone in the crowd asked this question… “Given the state of the world - wars, oil, tariffs etc... do you really think it’s a good time to be investing?” And honestly? We know a lot of you are feeling the same way. In this episode we went through the five biggest market crashes of the last 30 years. What actually happened? How long it took to recover? And why when the world is chaotic (like right now), you should be ignoring your instincts when it comes to investing! Soph is joined by Fran (a returning fan-favourite guest). She is a chartered accountant and finance director - the two look at the biggest market crashes the stock market has ever seen, and how to stay the course when every instinct is telling you to not invest right now. Whether you're brand new to investing or deep in the markets and quietly panicking, this one's a reminder that boring, consistent, and long-term strategy always wins. The Fifa World Cup has a new rule. It's called pay your child support.

Argentina handed the US a list of 130,000 child support debtors and said: don't let them into the World Cup. Soph and Vic break down why this is so much bigger than football. They also get into 10 years of Brexit and what it's actually cost the average person in wages, housing, and political chaos. Plus, SpaceX has fallen 25% since it IPO'd and Vic didn't buy it.
