Episode 313 Michelle Montone- A Conversation overheard in a hair studio that changed her life forever.

My story- I am a 44-year-old mom of 2 boys (ages 8&11) and wife to my wonderful husband for 14 years. We live in Lake Mary, FL (a suburb of Orlando). At the moment, I am a part-time Trainer at my gym. From 2022-2024, I had a podcast (Fast & Fabulous) & coached others to become Intermittent Fasters as well (still dabble in this from time to time)! Before having kids I was Paralegal for 15 years. I started yo-yo dieting around age 16. Since then, I have struggled with my weight. In college, instead of the “freshman 15”, I gained about 40lbs….When I graduated, I lost it by working out 7 days a week, calorie counting and depriving myself constantly. I didn’t eat meat, carbs, or sugar, and honestly, I was miserable. Before having kids, I was a paralegal for 15 years. I maintained (not so effortlessly) a healthy weight for about 4 years until I got married at age 30. This is when the weight started to pile on. I finally found comfort in a man who loved me for me, the comfort of marriage set in, and before I knew it, I put on about 20lbs. Then I became pregnant with our first son in 2014 and gained a good 60lbs, lost it all rather quickly after giving birth but this time by joining a weight loss MLM (so embarrassed of this!) and using supplements and body wraps…hundreds of dollars a month to sustain, and I lost only around 10lbs over the next THREE years! Fast forward to 2016-17 – I was pregnant now with my second son. I was gaining just like the first time, but at 28 weeks, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Because I had to follow an extremely strict diet to control my blood sugar, I didn’t end up gaining as much. It was what came in the next 2 years that was the worst. I tried to go back to work (I am NOT the stay-at-home type) when my youngest was 7 months old. It was an absolute disaster. My husband got a big promotion 9 months later, and I was forced to quit my job and stay home with an infant and a 3-year-old in a town we had just moved to. I fell into a horrible depression and developed a pretty nasty sugar addiction...you know the kind, when you’re eating an entire bag of candy in hiding, trying to cover up the wrappers in the trash. I ate ultra-processed food constantly… fast food, cheeseburgers, and fries were at least a weekly occurrence. Over those 2 years, I gained another 25(ish) lbs. I am 5’3” and my highest weight was around 200lbs...although I’m not 100% as I never weighed myself.I remember weighing 191 at a doctor's appointment in January 2020 (right before I started fasting). So many health issues started piling up at this point...I lived at the doctor’s office, but none could give me any answers....and not ONE mentioned weight loss, diet or lifestyle. I tried everything to lose this weight...I would lose 5-6lbs then it would come right back. This went on for a while before I accepted that this is who I was now and that I would be unhealthy and miserable. An old friend of mine had been telling me about IF for about a year at this point. I thought he was NUTS. How could anyone not eat for 16-20 hours?! I was someone who carried snacks in my purse long before I had kids because I was taught to keep your metabolism going, you should eat 6 times a day! Fast forward to January 2020...I’m getting my hair done and overhear the client next to me chatting about how she lost 30lbs doing IF. I went home that day and began researching. A friend of mine invited me to Gin Stephen’s Delay Don’t Deny FB support group, where I lingered for about a week before deciding to start 1/24/20 and have been clean fasting every day since. Episode 312 -Rondi and Jay Jennings -A couple who fast together and their individual Pathways to the IF lifestyle.

Jay: After a diagnosis of Stage III kidney disease in 2018, I committed to a whole-food, plant-predominant diet, which includes seafood two to three times a week. The results were encouraging, as my kidney function and lipid profile improved dramatically. The switch also resulted in a 25-pound weight loss. When Rondi began intermittent fasting in 2020, I saw her positive results and began eating in an 18-6 or 19-5 window. I lost another 10 pounds and experienced an improvement in my HbA1c; I was no longer pre-diabetic. Three years ago, I transitioned to a one-meal-a-day regimen to get our eating schedules more in synch. Unless dining out with friends, we eat once each day at about 4 pm. My kidney filtration rate and creatinine reading have actually improved, which surprised my primary care doctor at my most recent annual physical. My nephrologist, who is also an IF devotee, took me off high blood pressure medicine six months ago, another very positive step. Intermittent fasting has improved my health in numerous measurable ways, and I will keep this eating pattern for the rest of my life. Rondi: In 2020, after a lifetime of working hard to keep my weight within the normal range, I discovered intermittent fasting. I quickly transitioned into a one-meal-a-day lifestyle. That meal normally consists of seafood, green vegetables, and usually a small dessert. Gradually, over several years, my weight came down to 135 pounds. My heaviest weight was 192, so my total weight loss was 57 pounds. I still have to watch my carb intake. Intermittent fasting changed my life, and I will be an OMAD-er for the rest of my life. Episode 311 Netta Gorman -Life After Sugar we talk about the sweet stuff and living an Intermittent Fasting Lifestyle.

Netta Gorman is the author of Break Free From Sugar Cravings. She used to joke that she had the world’s #1 sweet tooth. She was proud of being a chocoholic - in fact, chocolate was her best friend. Her comfort. Her reward. Every night, she’d declare the kitchen closed… then find herself back in the pantry five minutes later, unwrapping a chocolatey treat she had promised herself not to touch.  By her mid-40s, Netta’s cravings were out of control. Her jeans were tight. Her stomach was bloated, and she was often constipated.  She felt sluggish, and by 3 p.m., she needed a sweet snack just to function. Netta thought this was normal. She thought she just needed more discipline… more willpower. She’d tried portion control and being “good” all day so she could earn a treat at night. But she ended up out of control with her cravings more times than she can count. Eventually, Netta hit a point where she didn’t want food deciding how she felt, what she wore, how much energy she had, or how she felt about herself. But she didn’t want to give up her comfort foods! Unwillingly, Netta decided to experiment with cutting sugar and processed foods for two weeks.  Just two weeks - no more! To be honest, she was scared. And she resisted. Why? Because she loved her chocolate and sweets! But Netta also dreamed of not being bothered by cravings, of having steady energy all day, and feeling confident around food. Those two weeks changed everything. Her energy started to come back. The bloating eased. Her digestion improved. The constant pull toward sugar softened. Her pants were a little looser.  She wasn’t fighting with herself or her willpower anymore. And she started to feel like she had control over her life again. Now, Netta guides women in transforming their relationship with comfort foods and sugar because you deserve more than just a food plan.  You deserve support, accountability, validation and a proven way to feel free from cravings.  And this is exactly why Netta created the Freedom from Cravings Formula program, to help you break that cycle of cravings and emotional eating — so that you can feel comfortable in your body, confident in your choices, and finally trust yourself around food again. Episode 310 Stephan Koch -The first few months of living an IF lifestyle.

For me, intermittent fasting is a time travel machine. I started my weight loss journey (in the modern era) a few years ago. I’ve been overweight since I finished college in the mid 90’s, and though I used to run marathons, I did not run for about 20 years and gradually got heavier and Heavier through 2019, when I used the advice of a dietician to briefly lose about 20 pounds from 240 to 220, but then went back up when I couldn’t maintain my food habits. I got to be my heaviest soon after, when I ballooned all the way up to 257, which is the highest I ever remember being on the scale. I was extremely uncomfortable and not enjoying how my clothes fit– ’cause they didn’t. Though the exact timing is foggy to me, I chose to begin running again in early 2023, when I had gotten back down to 242. It was also around this time that I fully transitioned into a newcareer. My last career, though exciting, was not conducive to establishing a daily routine—a daily routine is very important for establishing a fitness routine and reducing friction in healthyhabits. My new career is as a carpenter, which I’ve been doing since 2020. My old career was as an ice sculptor–yes, I am that guy. Both careers allowed lots of physical activity, butmy new career was not seasonal–thus daily routine became possible. Therefore, a fitness journey became a reality. Running helped my state of mind and helped me lose weight—I steadily lost weight all the way down to 209-213 and then hit a plateau I could not get past. On October 13th of 2025, I had my annual Doctor’s appointment, where my Doc usually tells me my cholesterol is high, my A1C is high, and I’m pre-diabetic–only this time he didn’t say any of that. My cholesterol was fine, and my A1C wasn’t outrageous–maybe 6. This was the first Doctor’s appointment I remember where one of those wasn’t too high. He said to keep doing whatI was doing, but I said I can’t get past 209, so I’m thinking of trying Intermittent Fasting. He was supportive of the idea, saying he had to change the routine whenever he hit aplateau, so I thought to myself, I can try this (for 30 days). I can do anything for 30 days, so I started that day. Four days later, I said to myself–I feel so good, I think I can do this for the restof my life! Also, during that time, I fully immersed myself in all IF podcasts and YouTube videos. I listened to a lot of Gin Stevens’ podcasts, and that’s where I heard about your podcast and then listened to yours for a while–(which I appreciate as a man). The IF journey is individual for allof us, but I really wanted to hear about the experience of men since I cannot relate to anything related to menopause. I also watched a lot of Jason Fung on YouTube. I stopped eating breakfast–I just drank black coffee and went to work. At lunch time, I ate the lunch my wife had made for me, and at 5 pm, I went home and ate dinner—then I did it all over again the next day and the next. I started losing weight again right away–I was at 213 on October 13 and lost 2 pounds per week for the next month…Around December, I got to around 199, but December is filled with culinary delightsand hazards–I still fasted every day, but I ate richer and sweeter foods, making it throughthe holidays, maintaining my weight instead of gaining (which is what I’d do every other year). In January, when my food became more routine again, I started losing again. I got down to 193 at theend of January, and now I am at 191. I say IF is like a time travel machine because every week I am lighter than the week before, I have to look further back in time to find the last time I was that weight. I am encroaching upon 1996 when I was working my first job out of college. The weight loss is not quick on 16:8, 17:7, or 18:6, but it is fairly steady, with some weeks showing gains and a big loss, and some weeks showing little to no change. More in the episode.

Episode 308 -Jim Peeler, Two years of living an IF lifestyle one year maintaining a 75 pounds (34Kg ) Weight loss.

Jim Peeler lives in Hickory, a small city in North Carolina's foothills. He and his wife, Diana, have two adult children who both live in the mountains of western NC, and one grandson. Jim is a financial controller for a logistics company. Jim has just passed his two-year anniversary of fasting on February 1, 2026. This past year, Jim has completed his first year of maintenance and offers great insight in this episode. Now 65 years old, Jim has struggled with weight issues at least since the 5th grade of elementary school, at theage of ten. He has lost hundreds of pounds over the years, using various methods, but has always regained even more once the diet ended. The hope is that intermittent fasting will hold the key to finally losing significant weight for good. Looking back, Jim realises that over his life he had reached a tipping point roughly every 10 years that prompted him to start a serious weight-loss attempt, with numerous attempts in between that never lasted very long. Jim was successful at losing weight in these serious attempts, shedding more and more pounds each time, but the diet rollercoaster led him to heavier weights with each try until he reached a maximum weight of 245 pounds in late 2018. And at only 5 feet, 4 inches, he was seriously morbidly obese. Through 2019 and 2020, he successfully reached150 pounds through calorie reduction and walking, but by 2024, he had once again risen to 215 pounds following a job change and the loss of his mother, among other stressful situations. He had heard of intermittent fasting some time before, but had never seriously considered it until he decided to give it a try in February 2024. Since then, he has lived a fasting lifestyle and is on the path to long-term maintenance, thanks to intermittent fasting.   Graeme's Links to connect with me directly.  Come and Join Our Patreon Community At the Link Below www.patreon.com/thefastinghighway. Episode 306 Holly Rogers- Living her best IF Life. The journey continues

I'm a wife of 49 years, mother of two adult children, andGrammy to two wonderful girls.  I've worked for my company for 45 years and look to retire in the next 2 years.  I love to walk, hike, travel, read and be as active and healthy as possible.  I never had to worry about my weight until my early30's.  I was the skinny kid.  My dad always told me I had toothpick legs. I could eat anything and everything and never gain weight.  When I got married at 22, I weighed 122 lbs., the highest I'd ever been.  When I got pregnant with my daughter eight years later, I weighed 127 lbs.  I gained 22 lbs during my pregnancy and lost it quickly.  As I moved into my 30s, weight suddenly became an issue, and within about 5 years, I'd gotten up to 160 lbs.  I joined a Weight Watchers at-work group and got down to 125 lbs., but looked gaunt and unhealthy.  But, as is often the case, WW proved unsustainable.  And I got back up to where I was when I originally joined WW.  I then tried so many other "diets" and landed at around 140 lbs.  In 2021, I had a total knee replacement and gained 15 lbs. due to inactivity and comforteating.  I tried WW again, lost 5 lbs. and then the scale wouldn't budge any further.  My daughter had suggested IF, but the word "fasting" was frightening to me.  Finally, I was so desperate that I said I'd give it a try.  January 26, 2022, was the day I started IF, and I will never live my life any differently.  I lost the other 10 lbs. Plus another 15 and have settled into an IF lifestyle. Graeme's Links to connect with me directly.  Come and Join Our Patreon Community At the Link Below www.patreon.com/thefastinghighway.
