    Jesus Was the Exit From the Simulation

    The New Jerusalem Is a Cube in the Sky

    Pope Leo XIV's encyclical "Magnifica Humanitas" presents humanity with two pillars: rebuild the Tower of Babel through technology, or manifest the New Jerusalem through spiritual perfection. William Henry has been mapping exactly this choice since his 2015 book The Singularity Is Near, where he used the word "magnificent" fourteen times across ninety pages, years before the Vatican landed on the same frequency. His response to the encyclical is both resonant and critical: the framework is familiar, but the document arrives at least a decade too late, and it omits the very teaching that should be at its centre. The deeper argument Henry traces is one most Christians have never encountered. Technology as a pathway to perfection is not a modern rebellion against the divine. It is a Christian concept, born in medieval cathedrals where monks viewed each new invention, from the ox-drawn plow to eyeglasses to the printing press, as a gift from God designed to free humanity for its original project: getting back through the Gate of Eden. That lineage runs directly from those cathedrals to Silicon Valley, making AI and transhumanism the latest expression of a quest Christianity itself set in motion. What troubles Henry most is what the encyclical leaves out. There is no mention of simulation theory, the philosophical engine driving AI and transhumanist development. There is no discussion of what a magnificent human being actually looks like, despite the fact that Jesus demonstrated exactly that through his transfiguration and resurrection. And there is no acknowledgment that the Vatican knew what was coming a decade ago through the Minerva Dialogs, private conversations with tech leaders held next to the Church of Sopra Minerva in Rome. The time to intervene was then. Henry's position remains open but clear: perhaps these technologies are gifts from God, and our task is not to fear them but to learn how to wield them from a higher spiritual purpose.
