  1. BREAKIN' NOOZ: Free access this week!

BREAKIN' NOOZ: Free access this week!

Haven't gistened to Breakin' Nooz yet? It's usually only available by joining the Gistener Club through Patreon or Apple Subscriptions, but this week we thought we'd give y'all a free lil taste test! Gistening to Rosie deliver the week's most important Breakin' Nooz headlines in this episode is Just The Network producer/professional Gistener Kate Leaver (and JTN assistant Pocket). This week: WE RECORDED THIS LITERALLY TEN MINUTES AFTER ROSIE AND JAMES LIVE STREAMED THE MUSHROOM LADY VERDICT WITH ROSIE IN A TOWEL. So there's much Erin Patterson chat to be had, including our thoughts on the non-parole period of 33 years. It wasn't planned but we have a brief chat about the guy in New Zealand (Tom Phillips) who had been on the run and hiding with his kids in the wilderness since 2021. He was caught and killed yesterday and by last night it was thankfully confirmed all three kids were safe and well. Kate mentions the amazing new Australian book 'Conspiracy Nation' by Ariel Bogel and Cam Wilson and we chat about what might lead to people falling down such dangerous and ultimately fatal rabbit holes. (Rosie also mentions 'Cultish' by Amanda Montell.) Omg omg omg omg OF COURSE we talk about the nutso new Netflix documentary that it seems everybody has watched: 'Unknown Number: The High School Catfish' (watch the trailer here). Rosie and James may have been the only people on earth who managed to see it without knowing the CRAZY TWIST. Lots of chats about toxic mothers and the many speculated theories floating around, including the fascinating 'Munchausen's by Internet'. Kendra on TikTok fell in love with her psychiatrist. Her series of detailed videos about it went crazy viral and had millions hooked. But it was pretty clear, pretty quickly, that Kendra was not in a good place, and what we initially started consuming as 'content' was actually quite likely a person's mental breakdown in real time. But she's monetised the videos, and as they are seen by more people, she's posting more and more of them. So how did we get to a place where the lines of 'entertainment' and 'content' are so blurred? (Listen to the episode of ICYMI podcast about this that Rosie mentioned right here.) HOT CHEF UPDATE: is the Hot Chef thing real? Or just a (genius, tbh) marketing ploy by debut author Katheryn Wella Bogen to make her new book 'Queering Him' go viral? Hmmmm. Kate Leaver wrote a brilliant article about the soemtimes embarrassing lengths she has gone to (and crazy stuff she has believed) in the midst of a long-term illness. Read 'Long Covid has more than 200 symptoms. Selective gullibility is one of mine' at The Guardian right here. .... BREAKIN’ NOOZ is a Just The Network production. Titanic (Rosie’s Version)

On April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic - the largest, most luxurious ship ever built - struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage. Over 1,500 people died in what became one of history's most famous disasters. This is Just The Gist of how an "unsinkable" ship designed with revolutionary safety features became a death trap, how the crew's lack of training turned evacuation into chaos, and how a nearby ship that could have saved everyone just... didn't. We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there's this: Titanic Belfast - Official Titanic Fact File Britannica - Titanic: History, Sinking, Survivors & Facts Titanic | Official Trailer Encyclopedia Titanica - Comprehensive Titanic Database National Geographic - Titanic: The Real Story Smithsonian Magazine - New Titanic Evidence BBC History - The Titanic Disaster Just The Gist is a Just The Network production. PLEASE LET THE PAPER BE GOOD! It premieres in Australia THIS THURSDAY (!) September 4, on Binge. BONUS: BOOK CLUB (PART 1) - Gypsy Rose Blanchard's Memoir 'My Time To Stand'

As promised, here’s the special bonus episode of Rosie and James very comprehensively unpacking Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s memoir 'My Time To Stand'. Both came armed with notes… and hot takes. And because they ended up chatting for four hours (naturally), this book club has been split into two parts. If you haven’t already, go back and listen to our original Just The Gist episode on Gypsy Rose Blanchard - available wherever you get your podcasts. It gives you all the background you need before diving into this one. This was recorded in December 2024, not long after the book was released. It was originally published on Rosie Waterland's Patreon. Trigger Warning: Gypsy’s story involves significant abuse and violence, which we do discuss - though we’ve chosen not to go into graphic or specific details. … The Gistener Club Bonus Content is a Just The Network production. Gypsy-Rose Blanchard (Rosie's Version)

For years, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was the poster child for childhood illness - confined to a wheelchair, battling leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and countless other conditions. Her devoted mother Dee Dee cared for her around the clock, and the community rallied to support them with charity and free trips to Disney World. But in 2015, Dee Dee was found stabbed to death in her bedroom. What police discovered next shocked everyone: Gypsy could walk, had never had cancer, and had been systematically abused through a condition called Munchausen syndrome by proxy. This is the story of how a desperate young woman orchestrated her mother's murder to escape a prison of fake illnesses, and why the case divided public opinion like no other true crime story in recent memory. Fyre Festival: The $26 Million Scam That Started With a Cheese Sandwich

In 2017, Billy McFarland promised the world's most exclusive music festival on a private island once owned by Pablo Escobar. Supermodels, private jets, gourmet food, and the biggest artists - all for just $1200 a ticket. What festival-goers got instead was the influencer version of The Lord Of The Flies. This is the story of how a 26-year-old scammer with a gift for nonsense convinced thousands of people to pay for a party that never existed, and how it all came crashing down in the most meme-worthy way possible. Plus, find out what Billy McFarland is doing now after selling the entire Fyre brand on eBay - for an amount that even he was shocked by.
