Smarte Katzen-Gadgets versprechen Komfort für Mensch und Tier: Katzenklos, die sich selbst reinigen, Futterautomaten mit Kameras, vernetzte Trinkbrunnen. Doch was taugen die Geräte wirklich – und rechtfertigen sie ihren oft hohen Preis? In der aktuellen Folge von c't uplink diskutieren die heise+-Redakteure Alexander Spier und Marvin Strathmann mit Moderator Keywan Tonekaboni über ihre Erfahrungen mit vernetztem Katzenzubehör. Alexander Spier hat seinen Haushalt Schritt für Schritt mit smarten Geräten ausgestattet – vom Trinkbrunnen über Kamera und Futterautomat bis zum selbstreinigenden Katzenklo. Er erklärt, welche Geräte tatsächlich Arbeit abnehmen und wo man vor allem für App-Anbindung und WLAN einen saftigen Aufpreis zahlt. Denn viele nützliche Funktionen verstecken die Hersteller hinter Abo-Modellen. Dazu wandern reichlich Daten in die Hersteller-Clouds, oft nach China. Marvin Strathmann hat Alexander geholfen, die verschiedenen Insel-Apps in Home Assistant zusammenzuführen. Er gibt im c’t uplink Einblicke, wie sich Trinkmengen, Gewichtsverläufe und Fütterungszeiten in einem gemeinsamen Dashboard bündeln lassen – und wie man sogar in Home-Assistant Funktionen nachbaut, für die Hersteller sonst kassieren. Die drei Katzenbesitzer sprechen außerdem über smartes Spielzeug, Chip-gesteuerte Katzenklappen und darüber, wann sich der Aufwand wirklich lohnt. Denn manches Gadget hilft tatsächlich, Krankheiten früh zu erkennen – anderes ist teure Spielerei.

Der Hamburgische Datenschutzbeauftragte Thomas Fuchs hält ein Verbot der Kamerabrille in Deutschland für möglich, weil sie von normalen Brillen kaum noch zu unterscheiden und damit faktisch als getarnte Kamera einzustufen sei. Zuständig für ein tatsächliches Verbot wäre die Bundesnetzagentur, die derzeit das weitere Vorgehen prüft. Reicht das kleine Aufnahme-Lämpchen als Kennzeichnung aus, oder ist ein Verbot die einzig konsequente Antwort? Und was bedeutet das für die Zukunft von Smart Glasses in Europa generell? - Uh-oh: Feiert ICQ ein Comeback? Unter dem Namen ICQ Reborn hat eine unabhängige Entwicklergruppe einen Windows-Client veröffentlicht, der Oberfläche, Bedienung und Funktionen des Originals möglichst authentisch nachbilden soll, inklusive UINs, Kontaktliste und dem berühmten „Uh-oh“-Sound.
