Mums Mysteries & Murder

Marti & Cheryl

We're two Mums living in Edinburgh who are obsessed with true crime and mysterious happenings, so obsessed we decided to start a podcast! Each month we take turns to tell stories from our homelands - Cheryl Scottish born and bred where haggis is NOT actually an animal and Marti from the land down under where no prawns have ever been thrown on a barbie, it needs to be said! So, if you want polished, professional true crime then this is not for you, maybe try Casefile. But if you love true crime and mystery like us & you can't stop talking about it, give us a listen! Its not big or clever but it is entertaining.

The Mysterious Deaths of Dr Bogle & Mrs Chandler

    * This episode has a few audio issues, but we know you dont listen to MM&M for perfection so we know you'll love it regardless.   This is down to the fact probably that it was not edited by our beloved editor Erin. Early on the morning of New Year's Day in the Sydney suburb of Chatswood in 1963  2 young boys out looking for golf balls got more than they bargained for when they discovered the half-naked body of a man partially covered by his clothes which had been thrown over the top of him alongside a square of carpet beside a river in a secluded tree-lined area. At first, the boys thought he was a drunk party leftover from New Year's, but soon discovered things were slightly more sinister. We bet you'll never guess whodunit! This is a particularly intriguing, very well-known case in Australia with some very interesting characters. The Rabbit Wars Of St Andrews

Come down a rabbit hole with us and listen to the intriguing tale of the Rabbit Wars of St Andrews as told by Cheryl!  This story takes us all the way back to 1797 and includes no less than 900 rabbits and the selling of the famous St Andrews Golf Course.   Trigger warning - Rabbits will get hurt in this episode  You might have guessed, but this is a slightly lighter episode than our recent episodes.   In the words of Cheryl  "It's Downton Abbey with significantly more rabbits!" We also talk about what makes a great true crime podcast. We'd also love to hear your thoughts on this, if you'd like to let us know what you look for. And, we chat childhood traumas! And of course, there's also a lot of golf talk.  Sources for this episode are: Golf History Nut STV News Searching for John Fraser Documentary on YouTube www.lyonandturnbull.com Hosted & Researched by Marti Jeremiah-Shelley & Cheryl Lessels Edited & Produced by Erin Ferguson https://www.instagram.com/erinfaudio/ Since 2023 ( earlier episodes are badly edited by us!) The Murder of Barry Wallace & Barry Oldham - live episode with Dawn from Scottish Murders

This is our live episode recorded at Cumbernauld Library as a part of their Killers & Coffee sessions with Dawn from Scottish Murders  And we are covering the tragic case of the murder of Barry Oldham & Barry Wallace in December of 1999.  Trigger warning for this episode: we do touch on decapitation, and if you're Scottish, you might not want to hear me pronounce so many Scottish names wrong! Sources for this ep are:  Sources - limbs in the loch - catching a killer - can be found on BBC I player  Its one of the best true crime documentaries ive ever seen - it really focuses on the victims and the police team interviewed are so genuine and you can really feel how much this case meant to them and the whole community, they were really invested in finding justice  We also talk about Christmas party fun that goes wrong, Christmas decorations from the 80s, the Millennium bug, Newcastle in the 80s and Greggs!  There is also an amazing revelation at the end that we did NOT see coming.  Huge thanks to Erin for editing this live episode.  Hosted by & Researched & written by Marti Jeremiah-Shelley & Effie McDonald Edited & Produced by Erin Ferguson https://www.instagram.com/erinfaudio/ Since 2023 ( earlier episodes are badly edited by us!)
