Today the story comes from Ukraine.
今天的新聞來自烏克蘭。

In a country called Ukraine, there is a war happening. A young soldier from Russia did a very sad thing. He hurt an older man who wasn't a soldier. The man was just riding his bicycle. Because this was very wrong, there was a special meeting in a courtroom. This meeting is called a trial. At the trial, a judge listened to the story. The soldier said he was very sorry for what he did. After listening to everyone, the judge made a very important decision. The judge said what the soldier did was against the rules, even during a war. So, the soldier has to stay in prison for the rest of his life. This was the very first time such a trial happened in Ukraine during this war. It shows that it's important to follow the rules and be fair, always.

Now, let's learn the story sentence by sentence. 現在,讓我們一句一句來學習這個故事。

The soldier said he was very sorry for what he did.

After listening to everyone, the judge made a very important decision.
在聽完大家說的話之後,法官做了一個非常重要的決定。
The judge said what the soldier did was against the rules, even during a war.
法官說,即使是在戰爭中,這位士兵的行為也是違反規定的。
So, the soldier has to stay in prison for the rest of his life.
所以,這位士兵必須在他的餘生都待在監獄裡。
This was the very first time such a trial happened in Ukraine during this war.

It shows that it's important to follow the rules and be fair, always.

There isn't a direct opposite, but a person on trial could be a 'defendant'. Let's try a sentence: The judge listened carefully to the story. 法官很仔細地聽了這個故事。

Our last word today is 'prison', P-R-I-S-O-N. It means 監獄. Prison is a place where people are kept as a punishment for a crime. A synonym is 'jail'. The opposite is 'freedom'. Let's make a sentence: He was sent to prison for his crime. 他因為犯罪而被送進了監獄。

It's important to remember that everyone must follow the rules of fairness, even in difficult times.
