Rerelease | The 6 Stages & 4 Styles of Emotional Blackmail

In this rerelease episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Brandon discusses Susan Forward and Donna Frazier’s book Emotional Blackmail and explains how manipulation can be used to control your choices, relationships, and behaviour. Brandon breaks down fear, obligation, and guilt, also known as FOG, and how these feelings can leave someone feeling helpless, powerless, and afraid to resist. He also explores the six stages of emotional blackmail: demand, resistance, pressure, threats, compliance, and repetition. The episode also examines the four styles of emotional blackmailers: the Punisher, the Self-Punisher, the Sufferer, and the Tantalizer. Through examples of threats, guilt, conditional love, silent treatment, and future promises, Brandon explains how emotional blackmail slowly wears down boundaries and teaches victims that giving in is the safest way to restore peace. This episode is designed to help survivors recognize emotional blackmail, understand why these tactics are so effective, and begin making sense of the manipulation they may have experienced. Introducing What End-of-Life Dreams Can Teach Us About Living, with Hospice Doctor Christopher Kerr from The Oprah Podcast. Follow the show: The Oprah Podcast Oprah is joined by neurologist and hospice physician Dr. Chris Kerr to explore the mysterious phenomenon of end-of-life visitations. Through decades of research and his life-affirming book Death Is But a Dream Dr. Kerr’s work has sparked a profound paradigm shift reframing so-called “deathbed dreams” as very real end-of-life experiences. Dr. Kerr and his team have conducted more than 1,500 interviews with fully lucid patients nearing life’s end. Again and again patients describe vivid encounters with deceased loved ones that feel not dream-like, but strikingly real. Those who appear are often the people they loved most deeply—the ones who mattered most in their lives. In this episode you'll also hear from a woman whose mother experienced an “end-of-life awakening”—a phenomenon known as terminal lucidity, in which a dying person temporarily regains mental clarity and awareness, often using those precious final moments to say goodbye to loved ones. Barb & The Raging, Critical, Coercive Controller

In this episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Barb shares the story of surviving a 22-year marriage to a raging, critical, coercive controller. Raised in purity culture and taught that a wife should defer to her husband, Barb believed she had found the man God intended for her when she met a charismatic church leader while living abroad. His confidence, painful childhood, inspiring words, and welcoming family made him appear safe. However, the early love bombing soon became a push-pull cycle of affection withdrawal, criticism, humiliation, and sudden rage that left Barb constantly trying to regain his approval. After they married, the control expanded into nearly every part of Barb’s life. He criticized her appearance, language, parenting, emotions, rest, and personality while using religion, money, sexual coercion, intimidation, and threats involving their children to keep her trapped. Barb learned to watch his facial expressions for signs of an approaching rage, silence herself in public, and remain productive whenever he was nearby. She explains how therapy, documenting the abuse, and accepting that she could not make him change helped her finally leave, return to the United States with her sons, rebuild her career, and create a peaceful life where she is free to be herself. It's a story of rage, control, narcissistic abuse, religious abuse, financial control,  physical abuse, sexual coercion, sexual abuse, empathy, nitpicking, putdowns, autonomy, isolation, silencing, gaslighting, humiliation, withdrawing, push-pull dynamics, power dynamics, waling on eggshells, doubt, intimidation, threats, love bombing, parenting, minimization, circular conversations, confusion, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, promises to change, blame shifting, time control, and documenting.  CONTENT WARNING - THIS EPISODE DISCUSSES PHYSICAL ABUSE, SEXUAL COERCION, SEXUAL ABUSE, & THE CHANNELING OF THE ABUSER'S VOICE. How an Abuser Refusing to Make Decisions Becomes a Form of Control

In this episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Brandon discusses how an abusive person can maintain control while appearing to let their partner make every decision. They refuse to participate, leave the planning and responsibility to someone else, and then criticize, blame, sulk, or become angry once a choice has been made. Brandon explains how this creates a no-win situation where the victim must constantly predict what the abuser wants, despite never being told what that is. Over time, the victim may take on the invisible labor of running the household, managing the finances, and preventing problems, while the abuser remains outside the process until there is something to criticize. The episode also explores how this pattern creates plausible deniability, keeps the victim focused on avoiding negative reactions, and slowly damages their confidence in their own judgment. What appears to be freedom can become a system of control built around blame, moving goalposts, and the fear of making the wrong choice. Debrief | Scapegoating, Transactional Love, and Family Betrayal in Vicky’s Story

In this episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Brandon debriefs Vicky’s survivor story and examines what it means to be assigned the role of family scapegoat. He discusses how Vicky remained loyal, worked hard, stayed quiet, and continued trying to earn her family’s love, yet was still treated as the problem. The episode also explores transactional love, financial support being used in place of accountability, and how the calmer parent’s refusal to protect a child can become one of the deepest betrayals. Brandon also breaks down how abusive families focus on a survivor’s reaction instead of what caused it, why outside accountability threatens a family built on silence and appearances, and the grief of mourning relatives who are still alive. He closes by discussing his hope that Vicky can rediscover the creative, capable, and resilient person she has always been outside the role her family created for her. *** CONTENT WARNING - This episode discusses physical abuse. *** If you are in search of therapy from professionals dedicated to dealing with TRAUMA - Narcissist Apocalypse recommends REBOUND THERAPY and they can be reached at  hellorebound.com/na Click if you want to be a guest on our survivor story podcast, please send us an email at narcissistapocalypse@pm.me Click on the title to read about Coercive Control as Care: Signs & Patterns Sign up to our Domestic Violence Newsletter  Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
